These coins have a look and feel of authentic currency from a genuine society. They are a little light weight for such large coins, but not too distractingly so. They are engraved front and back, each side with a different picture/scene. The display case is beautifully rendered in what appears to be solid wood, with a plastic "glass" face, golden metal catchment, and black inked symbols all around the top surrounding the plastic viewing window. The plastic faux velvet molding around the coins is exact to each coin, very snug, and even though there is a place on each coin to insert a finger to remove each coin, it is a little difficult, but not impossible. I recommend using the fingernail file on a pair of fingernail clippers to remove the more stubborn coins. Keep in mind, these coins are irregularly shaped, so you have to replace the coin in its own well in the precise manner in which you removed it, or it will not fit. I bought these for my husband, who is a coin collector (I never imagined I would be able to gift him coins from Middle Earth), for Valentine's Day, and I can't wait for him to see them!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... show more

I love these I didn’t touch them at all so I am not sure of the quality the coins themselves are but it didn’t come with the authenticity gaunter or anything which I saw in the list of items. Little bit of a bummer

    • Perfect gift for my dad
It is really hard to shop for my dad as he is a picky. HOWEVER he is a huge LOTR fan. Still has the original paperbacks from his childhood. He still cries during the 3rd movie/book. So when I came across this, I knew I had to get it for him. He was so excited on Christmas day. He spent a long time inspecting all the coins and was so pleased with how it looked with his other LOTR merch. Def recommend for LOTR fans! ... show more

I purchased these coins with the hope that they were a bit more gold than the photographs, but I was wrong. They are gunmetal color. I was surprised because the dwarven treasure hoard was gold, which was why Smaug moved into Erebor. The whole story line with Thorin Oakenshield was about him grappling with dragon sickness, which is an obsession with gold. Yet, these coins are NOT gold. I bought the coins from the WETA workshop, and I included photos with the difference between the two. Though the Noble Collection coins do not have the WETA stamp (a plus) they are a bit lighter than the WETA coins (a minus) and I find their carving slightly inferior. The second photo shows the placement of the WETA stamp in comparison to the clean Noble coin. Also, the texture of the Noble coins are a bit rougher, which is not how coins usually feel. HOWEVER, the box, is wonderful. Decent quality, and very nice looking. I am debating whether I will return this purchase or keep it just for the box. SUMMARY: If you are looking for an accurate coin replica from the movies, skip this product. The box is lovely and may be worth it though. ... show more
