Description

A GAME-CHANGING KEYBOARD, NOW IN HIGH PROFILE The Drop CTRL High-Profile is just like the original CTRL, but now it comes with a tall CNC-aluminum case that covers the switches. Machined at a 6-degree angle, the case is ergonomically crafted for a natural feel—and it’s quite a bit heavier than before. Thanks to the Kaihua switch sockets, the keyboard allows you to swap switches whenever you want with no soldering required. It’s also fully programmable via QMK, meaning you can assign macros or custom keybinds to every key. With dual USB-C connectors, the CTRL High-Profile is outfitted with the latest connections. What’s more, it has customizable RGB backlighting and underlighting, so you can set it to a single color or light it up with a rainbow wave. FULLY PROGRAMMABLE VIA QMK: Customizing your keyboard is a lot of fun. That’s why the CTRL High-Profile features a fully programmable layout, designed for modification. Using the Drop QMK firmware configurator, you have total control over every key. Plus, the configurator allows you to program macros and customized keymapping, so you can easily fine-tune your keyboard for gaming, work, or play. It’s also outfitted with two USB type-C connectors (one on each side), allowing you to use the spare connector to transfer data and charge devices at USB 2.0 speeds. THICKER, HEAVIER FRAME & HOT-SWAPPABLE SWITCHES The CTRL High-Profile is made from a large block of anodized aluminum (in two finishes), which is known for its toughness and ability to hold a quality surface finish. About twice as heavy as the original CTRL, the keyboard won’t budge when you're locked into an intense FPS match or hammering out an essay. Thanks to the built-in switch plate and hot-swappable PCB, the keyboard gives you the freedom to change out switches whenever you like. In fact, the gaps on the sides of the case are specifically designed for the included switch-removal tool. Best of all? You don’t need to solder each switch. Just pop them in and they’re ready to go. OPTIMIZED PER-KEY LIGHTING WITH MILLIONS OF COLORS The CTRL High-Profile is optimized to deliver the most light possible through the keycaps. You’ll also have your choice from millions of different colors for every single key. So if you want the lighting to cycle through the entire spectrum, you’ve got it; if you prefer a two-toned look to match your setup, consider it done. There’s also a built-in LED diffuser with light-blocking material to minimize hotspots found in many other keyboards. Worried about flickering? Don’t be. The backlighting displays at a super-high frame rate (100 hertz), so there's no annoying stutters. The Cherry MX Blue has a distinct “click” sound when depressed beyond the tactile point, making it the loudest switch in the Cherry MX family. The separated slider construction also provides the highest tactile feedback. A good blend of typing and gaming. Cherry MX Brown is widely considered to be the best “middle-ground” switch. Its tactile bump, silent travel, and medium actuation force makes it a versatile switch. Primarily typing. The Halo Clear being with a slight preload and a lighter, sharper tactile bump than the Halo True. Halo Clears discourage bottom out, but not as strongly as the Halo True. A good blend of typing and gaming. Medium weight, smooth tactile action, and a purposefully light preload are intended to reduce jarring fingertip impacts during rapid typing. Moderately heavy spring to discourage bottom out. A good blend of typing and gaming. Kaihua Box White switches are IP56 waterproof and dust resistant switches. Intended for gaming. Essentially a shortened version of existing MX-style switches allowing for faster actuation. • Excellent tinkerer's keyboard, but defaults could use a bit of improvement
Style: Halo Clear Color: Gray
This is a solid keyboard for enthusiasts. I like the RGB LEDs, the hot swap switch sockets, and the weight--this is a heavy and solid keyboard! Dual USB C ports are a welcome modernization. The included keycaps are double-shot PBT with the satisfying matte finish you would hope for. The package includes a keycap remover and switch remover. I like the keycap remover quite a lot but the switch remover is a bit hard to use. I have customized this keyboard a lot. I lubricated the switches, clipped and lubricated the stabilizers, and added a band-aid mod to the PCB. The stabilizers are a bit rattly from the factory, though I can't fault Drop for shipping stock switches. After the mods, the sound and feel are excellent. The board is a tank and it feels super solid to type on. It absorbs sound and doesn't have any metallic pinging from the key action. I give four stars instead of five because this keyboard ships with incomplete firmware. Yes, it works, but it doesn't remember your settings when it's unplugged. Thanks to the fact that it's open source, I was able to implement the missing functionality pretty easily (and release my changes as open source), but I have to wonder why Drop didn't do it. I hope they'll ship future revisions of this board with my fixes. Machining quality is good, but I do notice some mill marks in the key well. It's normally out of sight behind the keycaps but the keyboard business is about the details. The surface anodization is a gray, darker than MacBook silver, and with a more aggressive bead blasting that leaves it more textured. I noticed some splotches in the anodization but overall you're getting a ton of machined aluminum for your money. With the mechanical and software mods, this keyboard easily gets 7 stars out of 5. If you're looking for a solid base to customize, I think you'll be pleased. But if you just want an amazing keyboard out of the box, you might be disappointed by the tasks left up to you. ... show more

  • Solid buy!!!
Style: Barebones Color: Gray
I wanted to replace a plastic tkl to a fully aluminum board and I kept coming to drop ctrl so I decided to give it a try. but I didn't want to pay the full price. So yeah I went cheap and purchased a used or renewed keyboard from Amazon. The caveats were stated clear but it is not exactly true. Like the description said it would have some blemishes, which I was willing to accept but when the product arrived, oh man! The board was actually in perfect condition. No scratches or blemishes of any kind. Super great. It worked too. The downside is that it was missing the feet and cable, which I can compromise as well. It is still 6degree and custom cable is where you want to be. I did get the key cap puller and switch puller, tho used but still in good condition. I still have to test the board before return policy expires but so far so good. I will be foaming it in the future to get a really nice solid sound from it. As is, it is a bit hollow. I've also thought if changing the stabs. But both Amazon renewed and drops products are solid. I would keep giving those options a chance for savings benefits. This hobby is expensive... I can't say much about the LEDs because I turn them off. And also the qmk because the on board defaults are good enough. Simple man simple life for this guy. ... show more

  • Great board (please dont spend much more than $200 for it.)
Style: Barebones Color: Black
Bought because I wanted an aluminum-case mechanical keyboard that wouldn't ship from China and take a few months to get here. I bought used, at a discount, which really helps my value-for-money rating, since this is QUITE expensive at full price. Overall a little pricey (its what you expect from Drop) but a great board and case nonetheless. It even comes with some foam inside of the case, which isn't the best foam, but it works. I would buy this again, especially if it is going for a lower price (PLEASE dont spend $270 on this board), as it is a highly available Aluminum case and hot-swap PCB combo, if you want another option for a TKL with aluminum case check out the Glorious GMMK Pro (I would have chosen that if I liked the format of their keyboard better. it is only slightly less for about the same keyboard) For rebinds I just use Auto Hot Key, since I don't need anything crazy, and AHK is a very powerful language. I do believe that Drop supports flashing the firmware for this keyboard, however. It should be noted however, this board doesn't come with stabilizers (the one I got) and they are clip-on stabilizers. So buy that ahead of time if you want to use any of your bigger keys without significant wobble. ... show more

  • Solid and well built, buit overpriced and lacks many features a modern keyboard should have.
Style: Cherry MX Brown RGB Color: Black
This thing is solid, the aluminum frame gives it a hefty weight. The keycaps are pingy, lightweight, and don't secure well into the keycaps, many were off upon arrival. the keycaps also have too much glare with an over-monitor light. But, it's definitely overpriced and lacks many features a modern keyboard should have. It should have an easy-to-use interface for customizing keys, bindings, and lighting options. I wouldn't recommend it unless the cost doesn't matter much. Then would only recommend if you want a solid keyboard and feel like falling into the money-wasting rabbit hole of lubing, replacing switches, and all that other pointless stuff that's in this niche. lol, can't believe I fell into this hole for a minute. I'm out now. If I didn't spend soo much money on this thing, I'd be using something like a Logi MX Keyboard right now. buyers remorse definitely. ... show more

  • Nice construction
Style: Kaihua Speed Silver Color: Gray
Overall, I really like this keyboard. It is well built and has decent options for different keyboard switches. My only complaints are ;1. Doesn't include a coiled cable 2. Uses 3-pin hot swappable switches instead of 5-pin.
