  • The "Extra" 6 hands I didn't have ..
Project: Lift the box off my '06 Ranger to allow painting/preserving trucks frame with POR-15.. Not that a 6' Ranger box is all that heavy, but just heavy enough, and awkward enough to handle that this thing was a Miracle Tool .. Being retired, and not having 3 (healthy) friends to call on for help, this was a "must have" for my project.. The price was right, the quality is excellent, worked like a charm and was on my door-step in no time .. What more can you ask for ? Due to VERY limited storage space, I intend to make some minor modifications to allow better compacting .. Nothing that will compromise safety, or capability of the hoist.. Nit-picks: Hardware supplied could use extra washers, and/or self-locking nuts, for those of us who intend to leave it assembled permanently .. You will also need extra washers to center the boom in it's saddle.. I did find a couple hoists of this size cheaper, but, believe me, THEY'RE CHEAPER, and not the quality of this one.. ... show more

  • Shipped a returned, incomplete, and possibly defective product.
Recieved Jan 25 2017. Do not buy. I believed I was shipped a returned product without the company even checking the contents of the box. Either that or they just did not care if they were shipping a defective and incomplete product. The crane came in two boxes. The large of the two boxes had three boxes, one inside the other like russian dolls. The outer box and next box looked fine. No signs of damage but the inner box looked like some had gone after it with a pick axe. Before I got the inner box open lock washers and nuts were falling out of the box. There was also signs of fluid damage on the box. I found out later it was hydrolic fluid. I opened the inner box to find its contents covered in hydrolic fluid l. The bag of bolts and washers had several hole in it and only about half of the contents were still in the bag. After carefully inventoring the contents I knew I was one bolt and a few washer short of a full package. Luckily i had suitable replacements near by. The ram jack quickly spat its remaining fluid into the inner box when I picked it up. Even with all the problem I decided to assembler the crane anyway. As I did I began to notice that it looked like someone had already assembly this before. There was paint on some of the bolts and the nuts were scratched. Now the crane sits assembled in my garage. It is currently not in a functioning state. I have my mechanic coming tomarrow. I bought this crane to lift the finally tools of my woodshop off their pallets. If i have to return this crane and wait pn another it will cost more than this crane is worth. ... show more

  • Good Engine Hoist
Received the hoist this week and put it together in just a few hours. I got it just a few days after the order. Really fast shipping. If you had a helper, which is not really needed, the assembly would go faster. It came in two boxes by UPS, which was nice, they just left it at the front door. I did not see any instructions inside the boxes, only a parts diagram/list. That was enough information for assembly, but I suggest you measure each bolt and sort them for each location. It makes putting it together much faster. Put on the casters first (nuts inside the frame so that the casters will turn - that takes a minute or two to align the nuts with the caster bolts which are several inches into the frame). Then put together the lower framework, add the top framework and you are in business. The metal framework seems heavy duty. Like other comments, you will have to center the load to avoid tipping. I haven't tested it under a real heavy load but the ram jack seems to be holding pressure. The floor to end of the supplied hook is 89 inches at maximum height (but lower load limits). I like the extra height capability. At that height, however, your load is brought fairly close the ram jack, so it couldn't be a huge item. That said, I plan on using mine for typical engine work, hold up side of the truck hood to replace hinges, hold up doors to replace hinges, and eventually put the bed back on my old pickup (which will still take a few extra helpers, but this will definitely make it much easier). Except for replacing the pickup bed, I now can do all the work by myself, besides being able to use it for general shop use. At the price, I think it's a good deal. ... show more

  • It works, but could use improvment
The packaging was not good. The hardware was loose and some was lost through tears in the packaging so I had to replace it. The paint is not great and the packaging allowed it to get scratched up. There were absolutely no instructions and although it wasn't too hard to figure out, knowing the best order of assembly would have been nice. It works fine and is doing what I needed, but most joints are sloppy so things are not a rigid as you would hope and I have to be very careful moving it loaded. All fasteners are metric. The 1/2 ton marking is marked as 1-1/2 tons - zero quality control. The hydraulic ram takes about 50 pumps to get the arm up to level. This is annoying, but does allow precision lifting. There is no way to lower it slowly. When folded, the legs go back too far, but it doesn't really hurt anything. It came in two boxes, 1 was 124 pounds and the other was about 40 pounds. ... show more

  • Did the job
Lifted my engine out, but both of the longer legs have started to warp from the weight. Mind you, this is rated for almost 3 times the weight of my engine. Boon arm is fine. Chain off the boon is fine. Just the legs that lay down ... they started to bend up near the shear pins. Update: At this point I've put the engine back into the truck. This thing is a real pain to move around while it's holding the engine, and the leg that bent when removing the engine just feels unsafe. With the engine on the crane, only three wheels are touching because the leg is warped so much. I'm taking another star off for this. I mean, the crane survived the job, but just barely. For the money I paid, I should expect this thing to survive many jobs without warping and bending. I'd ask to exchange the product, but at this point I've had it for a few months (takes an individual longer to do this stuff than a shop). While it did do the job, I'm pretty unsatisfied with the fact that it's essentially scrap at this point. ... show more
