Description

The dm’s winter grip 2976 Alyson with zips comprises of high-performance styles, with specially designed details to protect against the winter. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

I have a few pairs of docs so when I realized I needed winter boots I looked back to docs and I found this pair. I liked them because they are (for the most part) weather resistant and have "slip proof" bottoms, as well as the faux fur lining. I ordered my normal size (size 6 US). These boots are very comfortable. I wore them around the house upon getting them to help break them in a bit and form to my foot and they are very comfortable to stand in to cook, clean, and even just watch tv. They feel super sturdy but not clunky and in the way. I was worried that they would give me blisters like my other docs did while breaking them in (and for years after with the one pair), but these have yet to cause any discomfort or blister feelings. I will say though - wear socks that are thick around the ankles. The way that these hit, I can see them giving ankle blisters quite easily rather than heel blisters. I have been wearing thick socks that go above the boots and so far so good. Within a few days of receiving them, it snowed. These boots handled the snow really well, and I didn't have to double up on socks which I normally have to do. I have not treated them with a weather proofer, so I will admit I was worried about water or salt staining but there has been none. So far, these boots were a great choice for me, and I think they will be great for people in most winter circumstances! (To note - these are not snow storm boots. Not because they can't withstand it, but they are a true ankle boot. If you need to walk through more than 6 inches of snow, these are not the shoes for you. For big snow storms or for walking through really rough terrain, I own thigh high winter boots. These are great for cold weather or light snow, but if you wear these in a snow storm you will likely regret it.) ... show more

I was looking for a good winter boot that wouldn't get ruined in the snow/rain. I wanted something that would keep my feet warm, but also would go with anything I wear. I was specifically looking for the Chelsea Boot style and came across these on the Dr. Marten's website, but unfortunately they were sold out on there. I called to see if they'd be restocking and they said that they were not making them anymore. I was so bummed out because these were the only boots I found that I actually liked and fit my needs in a boot. I kept searching and decided to look on amazon and that is when I found them here. These boots will not disappoint! They are comfortable, so warm and go with everything I wear. I bought a size 8 and I'm usually a size 8.5/9 -- but someone once told me Dr. Marten's run kind of big, so I chanced it and went for an 8 and they fit me perfectly! If you're looking for a good Chelsea Boot that you can take in the snow and wear in the rain, these are the boots! ... show more

Took the advice of reviewers and ordered up one size (11) and deeply regretted it. These shoes were sooo long, honestly the largest size 11 shoe I've ever received. Ankle fit great even with thicker socks on but the shoe was just way too long - when I tried them on I kept banging into things with the toe. So sad to be returning my dream docs especially because my true size is now out of stock...still gave the shoe 4 stars because they would have been great if they were the correct size. ... show more

I was hesitant, I have worn Docs for 25 years and I was looking for a boot to deal with the soggy weather where I moved to. Ok I first ordered these in my normal size and they didn’t fit at all. So I returned them. I reordered the next size up and they fit well with some winter socks which is when I will be wearing them. I love these boots - super warm and cute! I go to school in a place with alot of snow, so these boots are perfect for wearing with a cute outfit. Only problem - a big problem - is that the side zippers keep falling down when I walk and snow gets into my shoes. NOT GOOD! Trying to get that fixed, or at least some advice from Zappos (the online retailer through Amazon) or Dr. Martens. So far haven't heard from anyone. Sad to say, but I don't know if I can go through another winter with these if these don't get fixed. ... show more
