  • I'm so happy I saw these here at Amazon.
Color: Black Magnification Strength: 2.5 x
I'm 68 and have been wearing prescription glasses from the age of around ten years old. I've been using over the counter reading glasses for the last few years to help with reading and close up work. Each year it seemed I was increasing the strength to the point where they didn't work no matter what the strength and my overall vision wasn't good. Every year I have a full eye exam as being diabetic I want to make sure I keep my sight. This year instead of using the local vision stores and their optometrists I went to a ophthalmologist for the exam. Turns out the reason I was increasing the strength of the reading glasses and having general sight problems was due to a couple of cataracts. I was told a couple of times by the optometrist that there was an indication of the start of a cataract in my right eye but nothing to be alarmed about. The cataracts warranted immediate surgery which was done on both eyes the following week. Yes both eyes at the same time due to another ailment I have which is Parkinson's disease and because of head tremors it was decided to use general anesthesia. Because this meant an overnight stay at the hospital I asked and was given permission to get both eyes done and to get it over with. The surgery went extremely well and nobody who hasn't had the surgery will understand the great improvement in vision. Before surgery I was offered a treatment that would correct both near and far vision but Medicare will cover only single vision procedures and at the additional $4500.00 per eye I decided to fix my distance and not closeup vision. It meant the possibility of prescription reading glasses but already use to glasses so I didn't consider that a problem. At my final eye exam it was determined that over the counter reading glasses would be fine. It was suggested that a magnifying strength of + 2 for normal reading and a +2.5 for that very fine print and intricate work. This is the review of the +2.5. Amazon offers so many of the non prescription reading glasses that it's a pretty difficult process to choose just the right ones. After at least an hour or so I chose the Double Take. I liked the idea that they are pretty much half framed. This allows me to read but at the same time look over the top frame to see the computer screen as well as the TV equally well. I remember my grandmother doing this with her prescription reading glasses and thinking it kind of funny. Now I find it the perfect solution. Another nice thing I enjoy about these glasses is the spring hinged bows. This feature allows you to place the glasses at that certain placement allowing the over the frame viewing of TV and reading. The quality of the frames is pretty good, not as good as an expensive pair purchased at the opticians but very close. The lenses themselves don't seem to distort as some of the others I've had through the years which is great. It's like you don't know you are wearing glasses. Overall a great experience so far with these glasses. The price is great for one pair but fantastic for two. Now there's a pair at my desk and one in the bedroom. Now with every good things mentioned there is one negative I feel I should mention. It's a nice gesture to include a hard case for each pair and a microfiber cleaning cloth but the hard cases are extremely difficult to use. You have to place the glasses in such a particular way or risk the spring activated hinge clamping down on one or both of the bows. It's easier just to set them down in a safe place. I'm extremely happy with these glasses and have no problem with recommending these to anyone. Everything is almost perfect. The price, the materials used in production, the lack of distortion and the spring hinged bows make these the best I've ever worn. The too small hard case is the only drawback but not enough of one to decrease even a half a star There is one thing I must add. Anyone who has or even thinks they may have cataracts should be examined. If surgery is necessary or suggested have it done. Your brain gets so use to failing eyesight and you just let it slide. I can't explain how wonderful the world looks through eyes that are free from cataracts. ... show more

  • Quite good!
Color: Black Magnification Strength: 1.25 x
*****UPDATE**** After using these for about 6 months, I went ahead and got a couple more pairs. I've reached for first ones I got more often than I expected. They've been great to have handy, and it's difficult to find readers at 1.25x at anywhere near this price point. ********* I got these on something of a whim, looking for some readers that both had a case and that I could easily keep in my car or travel bag, just in case. As it turns out, they aren't bad for daily use. They are lighter than I expected, so wearing them for extended periods is not bad at all. The case is rather robust, too. These aren't as good as a more expensive pair of very lightweight readers, but they are an excellent value. About my only real complaint I have is that the case hinge has a VERY tight spring. It's a little difficult to open, but the real problem is that it's somewhat difficult to close without a loud clap that can ring loudly throughout a room. ... show more

  • reading glasses
Color: Black Magnification Strength: 1.5 x
We like these reading glasses. They are light weight, clear and inexpensive. They come in varied magnification powers, so you can get what works best for you. Each pair comes with it's own hard case and cleaning cloth, which is really nice. We have had a few frustrations with a lens that popped out while being cleaned and it is hard to get it back in the plastic "frame wire" around the bottom and sides. The earpiece is also not very flexible for a lot of adjustment, but all in all these are a great set of readers and we have bought them multiple times. Pros inexpensive comes in a set of 2 pairs each comes with hard case and cleaning cloth they look decent don't obscure vision cons IF a lense comes out it is hard to replace Can't adjust the earpiece very much ... show more

  • These work for me!
Color: Black Magnification Strength: 1.75 x
I use these all the time (even as I write this). Their not all that sturdy but since they're cheap I carry a pair around until they break and buy more. I think I've been through 10+ pairs of these over the past several years. I prefer these over the solid plastic ones. I like the simple look. To me, the lack of sturdiness is not a problem, given their low price. So I will keep buying them as long as they're available. ... show more

Color: Black Magnification Strength: 1.0 x
These are OK, certainly bargain priced, but it seems like more attention was paid to the case than the quality of the glass. The case is awesome, and the frames are fine too, but I find the glass distorts on the edge of my vision in a way other readers don't. This makes them uncomfortable to use in a situation where you are constantly looking down to read, then back up, like in a meeting. They work well enough as simple readers where you are focused on the text for a short time and they are more compact than other pairs, so they have their uses. I keep a couple around the house and in cars and they work well for that purpose being smaller than most - great to take in to a restaurant, for example, so I can actually read the menu. But, if I'm at work or settling in for a long read, I prefer to use other more comfortable options. I would not recommend if they were the only pairs you had, but they do OK as stop-gaps and those times when you just need a pair for a few minutes. ... show more
