  • Fit my 2016 Tundra built in 10/15
The Dorman website and their technical service chat said this part wouldn't fit Tundra's built after August, 2015. My truck's ID plate says it was built in October. I bought the part anyway after my mechanic couldn't remove the old bearing with a 20 ton press. Thought I would take a chance before having to send it to a dealership. Good call, because the fit was perfect (except for the brake caliper holes everyone else has mentioned). Did both sides and now I have no more "brake control error". Very pleased. For the record, both my truck and the replacement parts have 36 splines. ... show more

  • Quick install
I purchased this axel assembly for my 08’ Toyota Tundra so as to not having to waste my time pressing out then pressing in a replacement bearing. This was a very fast install. All I had to do was transfer over the parking brake shoes onto the backing plate. I was driving my vehicle after installing the axel within a hour and a half. This axel was an excellent buy. Saved me time and a lot of money. ... show more

  • Caliper bolt holes too small; needed to be drilled out
Backing plate had a minor dent from shipping that was easily straightened. The seal & o-ring came with the axle; the two bags were twist tied to the backing plate. Used YouTube videos as a guide. Everything was going great with re-assembly until I went to bolt up the caliper. The bolts did not fit through the holes in the new assembly. The holes were roughly 1/2"; drilled them out to 9/16". Of course it would have been much easier if I had known that in advance. Drilling out the holes while the axle was standing on the floor would have been super easy. I was not pulling the axle to drill the holes. I had to cut off a 9/16" drill bit and then re-sharpen the stubby piece and put it in a right angle drill adapter in order to drill out the holes. Total time 4 hours (I'm 67yo). 2016 Tundra with 90k miles. I hope it lasts another 90k miles. Edit: Dec 2023 - Oil seal is leaking in less than 2 years. ... show more

  • Great product just packaging for dust cover needs some help
This is a great product, only 4 stars due to the bend dust cover, this part needs to be better supported for transport. I had to bend it in several places to get it to not make contact with the rotor. This comes with the seals needed to complete the job. All in all a great savings vs having to press in a bearing. 2010 tundra 5.7 took 1.5 hours to replace. ... show more

  • Time saver. And your only logical solution.
The media could not be loaded. I ended up purchasing this Dorman complete OEM retrofit kit because of the difficulty and cost in attempting to disassemble and rebuild the OEM axle bearing assembly to install a new backing plate. Toyota dealer sells the inner parking brake backing plate with integrated dust guard for $500. The dust guard backing plate aftermarket price is about $300. You still have to take the complete unit axle and hub to a machine shop to press it apart, which would then force your hand to also install a new seal oring and wheel bearing. Experts online have posted that it is very critical to press set the bearing correctly for a proper wear. This aftermarket part and axle fit exactly right with no modifications. You will need to remove several components from your old axle such as the speed sensor and top emergency/parking brake actuator in parking brake and parking break holder and spring clips and top and bottom parking brake retainer springs. The manufacturer Dorman package this part very well with cardboard special packaging which guards on the top and bottom, and in the middle to prevent damage, none of the threads were damaged, but the dust guard was bent. This cardboard package arrived damaged with the top of the cardboard box open and unsealed, which gives evidence that, it was shipped without care. To be honest, the part is heavy and awkward and unbalanced. The manufacturer should have put a note on the box saying caution this end up, and it would be prudent to perhaps note On the box in red or caution, orange letters that this is a rather expensive item although that might entice someone to steal this rather unique automotive due to the expense of this part, although the dust guard was Bent, I did not need to return to Amazon because I was able to bend back the guard with slight finger pressure based on the gap around the rotor. I will be disassembling and repainting this backing plate every year to extend its life as , it’s expensive endeavor. I did reuse my inner parking brake shoes and retainer clips because they were in good shape. By way of background history, I rarely use my parking brake because it is very small and I’m usually only parking on flat areas. As confession time, I can honestly say I’ve never driven with the parking brake on because my truck chimes and flashes red brake if you put the transmission in drive with the parking brake Engaged. Parking brake installation mechanic trick for the small inner brakes. Shoe springs = carefully put the small springs in a vice and compress the springs in vice then tie the compressed spring using very thin piano wire , the wire the spring is compressed three little thin wires, a.k.a. the wire that is used to safety wire for racing bolts. That way you can install the springs and the retainer cap onto the retainer clip. Then once you have install the springs you can cut the thin safety wire and remove it , and the springs will Resume proper tension. ABS (Speed Sensor) Remove the clip carefully. Blow dust and dirt away before removing. Do not bend or break the ABS speed sensor wiring as it has a special bend. Spray a little lubricant or silicon to assist in removing the OEM speed sensor. Reinstall the speed sensor in the new axle wheel hub. ... show more
