Nice little kit. Was very handy for my winter sowing, just not quite tall enough dome. All the little starts are sideways, lol. Decent quality for the money. Pretty sure I can use them for a couple batches of seeds along the way. Happy with purchase.

    • Effective at what they're designed to do, but I wouldn't recommend.

These seed starter trays have a pretty good seal and retain humidity levels well. I find that they also come in a convenient size since I was able to fit all four on my heat mat. But I don't plan on using these for long, nor do I plan on reusing them. The reason for this is that unfortunately these aren't eco friendly and sadly they cannot be recycled. They have no recycle number on the bottom nor any indication on them that they are recyclable. They definitely aren't made of a sturdy recyclable plastic like polypropylene, they feel thin and flimsy and compare more so to PET/PETE which sadly is a non recyclable form of plastic and is often contaminated with phthalates from the way it is processed and manufactured. If these seedling trays are in fact made of PET/PETE plastic, then you can almost guarantee that these do harbor phthalates. I must also add that phthalates leach into or onto whatever they come into contact with especially when heated, so I don't on using these seed trays on a heat mat for long. Once my seedlings have sprouted well enough I plan on either repotting them or placing them directly into the garden, but making sure that I dispose of as much of the soil that were within these trays as possible and using fresh potting soil or whatever other medium to replace it. These phthalates are a type of "forever chemicals" that have been wrecking havoc on our health and our ecosystems, so its best to use these trays briefly and dispose of them properly (if thats even possible... as landfills are no resolution at reducing environmental exposure). This is my sole reason for deducting a star. It's just a shame that they are designed with cheap materials. It's unfortunate because these seed starter trays do serve their purpose and they seem to do so really well. But I will definitely be going back to good old fashion seed blocking after I finish using this set of trays. ... show more

80/100 Four seed starter trays with lids that arrive neatly nested. It only took a few problem-free minutes to fully assemble them all. Each starter tray works well, the lids all fit with no warping and the air flow adjustments seem to function well. They are nice starter trays that you can use with soil, sponges, of other growing medium. The are lightweight plastic, but with careful use you could use them for many seasons. Ultimately, are they worth the price? Yes. Any tool to help get the garden in early is worth it. ... show more

We have been using these for a few weeks now. I find them to be ok. I do like the air hole adjusters on top and that the plants don’t set in water. What I don’t like is that the lids don’t snap on.

This looks very similar to ones that also have grow lights, so make sure you order what you want. That said, this is a good value for basic seed starting when you don't need additional light. I usually place these on top of a seed warming mat since I start seeds in a room that gets cold at night. It's good to put a little water in the bottom of the green trays if you are using a warming mat so the roots don't get too much or uneven heat. I prefer using multiple smaller seed trays like those for flexibility in what conditions different plants need (light, warmth, humidity, etc.) as opposed to one big tray.
