  • Do Not Forget to Read this Book!
This adorable book takes readers on a quick adventure after the main character dares to rake the garden in her party dress. The soft illustrations gently break the impact of the small disasters along the way. Teachers should snatch this book up to demonstrate concepts such as cause and effect and “what ifs”. In the end, this is a story of resilience and flexibility. ... show more

  • Whimsical
Lovely, lyrical and whimsical story, in which one thing leads to another (from being lifted into the clouds, to parachuting down into a lake full of otters), all because you decided to rake your garden in a party dress. "What a kerfuffle" indeed! I like how the story ends on a positive note of just going with the flow. ... show more

  • Things don’t always go as planned
No, things don’t always go as planned. But what delightful ways for things to go wrong! From soaring with the birds to kersplashing in the pond this young girl is unruffled by each new twist. Until she realizes that she STILL must rake the garden. But once again, pragmatism takes over & the best is made of her altered plans. ... show more

  • Cute Book with if- then type story line
I bought this book to accompany a painting I saw, Portrait of Henrietta Laura Pulteney by Angelica Kauffman. For that purpose it fit pretty well. The story is about a girl who begins to prepare for a garden party with her dress on. When she begins to rake however, she is wafted up into the air and proceeds on a lovely adventure... to a point. Soon, the dress is messy and torn and her shoes are wet and squishy. Home she goes to change and receive her guests. The message at the end is "just because things don't turn out like you have planned doesn't mean you can't still have a good time" is a good one, it just doesn't fit very well with the overall whimsy of the story. (this is why it got 4 instead of 5 stars) Overall, a cute whimsical book with soft and lovely watercolor illustrations. ... show more

  • A fun party adventure
Well this made me smile! With wonderful lyrical writing Aimée Bisonnette’s party girl goes on quite an unexpected adventure, and all because she rakes the garden in her party dress! A cautionary tale with charming, soft, pastel water colours by Kelly Pousette, gently showing that even “wet, wild and windswept” and without a party dress, your party will be fun, and your friends will love you anyway. ... show more

  • A Story that will make your heart soar
What happens if you rake your garden in a party dress? Why, anything! Full of delightful, lilting language that will take readers on a fun journey of possibilities leading to the joyful conclusion that maybe a party in every day clothes might be best after all.
