  • The glue is junk
Great products and already pit together the bakery, but the glue in this kit is absolutely terrible. I used the glue that came with the other kit that works much better. Other than that, it's another great kit and super cute.

  • First time building one - loved it!
Pros: I loved how many of the pieces were able to snap together before glueing, so you’re not having to hold it while it dries. The details!! I love the little food and napkins so much. I think the multiple levels with the stairs is my favorite part. I personally didn’t need extra tools until the wire part. Needed some help from my boyfriend who had a wire clipper. Truthfully, I build it without the light at first and still loved it, but it is cute! The paper is also laser cut so you can quickly pop it out. Loved the glue it came with! I found it just challenging enough. My new one (different set) is much more complicated. I miss this one in that way! Cons: occasionally I had to do some sanding on wood ridges, but not much and it comes with the sand paper. Also, some of the signage is a bit odd/awkward sounding. It didn’t bother me much! I left mine but you can easily replace the paper pieces. Hardest part for me was assembling the leafy plant by the window, because the actual faux leaves are pretty heavy and I had to hold it while it dried. ... show more

  • A cute addition to any bookshelf or a statement piece for the miniaturely-inclined
I've been interested in miniatures for a long time, since the days of mighty max playsets and building/painting Warhammer 40k models (Necron and Tau for the win!) Since I have started adulting recently, I've been looking for new statement pieces around my apartment and this mini café popped out at me. To start with, I used to build with Lego all the time, so assembly was an absolute snap. The instructions weren't perfect, but they were serviceable and I was rarely at a loss for what to do next. The pieces all fit together nicely and even stringing the electric cables for the light was a breeze. Unlike other, similar dioramas I've worked with, everything here is painted and detailed, not just the pieces that face outwards. This is really important for the immersion and means there is a decent amount of care and interest by the company to put out a good product. While building the diorama is pretty rigid, there are some things you can shift around like the seating and the silverware. Once put together, everything looks great and reminds me of multiple Miyazaki movies whenever characters go into a cute café/coffee shop. When the room is darker, turning on the light gives the whole scene a very warm and comfortable glow - perfect with some French café ambiance music or to stand-out on a mantle or bookshelf. Overall a great little diorama set and definitely something visitors will want to get a look at whenever they come visit. ... show more

  • Very easy construction
This kit is from my favorite brand, Rolife. These kits are of excellent quality and have tons of little fussy details (which I love). If you do enough models, you can tell which brand they are by the photos. Rolife uses a little heart inside a house symbol. This is a slow hobby. I suppose you could put it together fast but I like to just take my time and make sure things are perfect, or as close to as I can get. Rolife models come with really detailed instructions that show you which pieces you need for each step so you can get them ready ahead of time. The boards that you punch pieces out of have numbers and so do all the pieces so it's pretty hard to make a mistake. They also provide a map so that if you have a loose piece you can see where it should go by setting it in the shape where it fits and finding the number. You need very few tools to complete this model kit. You need an exacto knife and better tweezers if you have them. You'll need a lighter to melt the heat shrink for the lights. That's it. No need for hammers and wire strippers. Some other helpful but optional supplies are a paintbrush for glue, q tips for clean up, and better glue. It is possible to complete the model with the glue they give you, but I prefer to use turbo tacky glue. The little wires are such a fine gauge that you can easily strip them using your fingernail. All you need to do is pinch the wire's coating between your nails and twist a little. If you pull straight it will pull right off the wire. You don't need electrical tape because they provide heat shrink. You use the heat shrink to cover the naked wires and then use a lighter or heat gun to shrink the tube down to cover the wires. It is very tiny work and if you bend the wire back and forth too much it can snap off, so just be careful. Most of the pieces have tabs that fit into each other for added stability. If the pieces don't fit quite right all you need to do is sand them down a bit, with the provided sandpaper. They will fit in there without the need for a hammer. ... show more
