  • One of my best
This one was one of my favorites. The picture came out fantastic! I used a slim black permanent marker to outline the dogs, chair and shoes. It was so good that my friend asked me to make her one! Pick it up if you can, you won’t be disappointed!

  • A Delightful Painting Experience
Finally finished! I made a few changes according to my sensibilities. One is that I added more overgrown grass in front of the porch; it just seemed to need it. Two, I added a tiny bit of shadow to the boot laces (see close-up image); it's not something you see unless you're up close, but I like knowing it's there. Three, I added some shadowing on the lighter colored dog just because it made sense to me in terms of the light source. Four, I didn't paint the names of the dogs on the bowls because I'd rather allow the viewer to name the dogs. I recommend this kit highly, but be aware that it takes tons of patience for the detail work! I used 10/0 and 5/0 detail brushes, and I used pin-strioing tape. There are still little bits around the panes of the door that I want to clean up, but I'm calling it done for now. [Earlier] I am still working on this painting, but I am loving every bit of it! There are several aspects of this kit that make it different from other paint-by-number kits I've worked on. 1. It is painted on a thick and sturdy card stock of some kind -- stiff as a board, but not as heavy. The surface doesn't have a canvas texture, so the paint glides easily, even in the smaller/thinner spaces. 2. The paint is different somehow. It's a lot thinner. I was afraid it might drip, but it doesn't! It is perfect for painting on this surface. I'm using a 10/0 detail brush for the fine/skinny spaces; just a tiny drop of paint on the tip flows perfectly from the brush tip to the painting. I'm pleasantly surprised! 3. There are 24 colors of paint, but there are well-written instructions on how to mix specific colors (equal amounts of each, and only a tiny bit at a time), so the result is something akin to 48 colors! The initial colors given are numbered 1 through 24; the places on the image which are to be painted in combined colors are labeled with the alphabet (rather than numbers). The color combinations are logical, also. For example, it often happens that where one section is painted with color #2 and another is painted with #11, the color between them (the mixed color) is a combination of #2 and #11. 4. The numbers and letters on the image are printed in a kind of golden brown color, so they are easy to cover. One other great aspect of this kit is that they did NOT print the color number for white (#1) on the painting surface. It's marked on the printed reference for painting, but it's left blank on the painting, and that helps because it's always a pain to have to go back and make sure that white paint was able to cover up the number! 5. I LOVE the way the paint pots are different from other kits. They have easy little snap connections on the sides, so I can separate them from the group and put them together as needed for working with them. For example, one section required both #11 and #12 which are very closely related in hue and value, so I had no qualms about working with both at the same time; thus, I was able to snap those two together and have them handy as I worked. The other thing I like about the paint pots is how the bottom of the container flares a bit; this makes it a bit steadier as it sits on my work surface. Be aware that the kit comes with only one brush. The instructions mention other possible brushes to use. As noted above, I've been using a detail brush (10/0) for many of the tiny spaces. I've also got a magnifying glass handy because I have old eyes that need help with the smaller numbers. I'll post a photo when I'm done, but I must say that even now - in the middle of working on this project - I'm thoroughly enjoying it! (written by Judith) ... show more

  • You Can Master This
It’s nice to be able to write an actual review because the order actually arrived at my door. I can’t say that about another product I ordered recently. That one claims it was “delivered” but it’s been over a week and I STILL haven’t got what I payed my hard earned money for!! And yes, that makes me very angry! But as for the Dimensions kit, it’s here and I competed the painting as you can see from the photos. I’ve been doing these for a long time, and I’ll say this much: With diligent practice, you can achieve a level of mastery with these kits where you can make the finished painting look exactly like the box cover. I’ve done it, but the truth is, my first paintings sucked really bad. It took time and a few paintings to get everything down pat. You can do it, too. Just don’t get discouraged or give up. ... show more
