  • Must have item if you are thinking of processing thousands of cases
I bought one of these because prepping .223 cases was becoming quite a chore. I was using the Frankford Arsenal prep center, which works fine, but is in no way able to handle high volume case prep, unless you don't care how long it takes you. I will still keep the Frankford prep center because it works just fine on other caliber rifle rounds that I reload, but not to the extent that I reload .223. For hundreds the Frankford prep is good. For thousands you really need the Dillon RT 1500. I was trimming by hand with a Frankford prep center, which works great, but is very time consuming and rough on my hands as each case must be held by hand to hit each of the 4 prep attachments on each and every case. I would do about 100 at a time which took me about 45 minutes to an hour. Now that I went to the Dillon case trimmer I prep and trim about 1,000 at a time, which takes me about an hour to an hour and a half. The time savings really justifies the cost of the trimmer as I normally process thousands of .223 rounds. I set the RT 1500 up in about a half hour. Set up was easy. I checked and double checked the settings and ran some cases through to make sure everything worked properly. I then loaded up my case feeder with .223 rounds and processed just over 500 cases in under an hour. Processing the case is easy, pull the handle, hold it in the down position for about a second or two while the cutter trims the case, then cycle the handle. Thats one case. Done. Very easy. The trimmer is super quiet. You really have to be listening to hear it run. I am using a vacuum to suck up the trimmings, so the vacuum is loud, but its better than having trimmings all over the place. I just put on a set of ear muffs and started pulling the handle. ... show more
