This review is for the Moukey MMS-5 Desk Mic Stand What I like about this mic stand far exceeds what i don't like. What I like: The Moukey MMS-5 Desk Mic Stand is small enough to fit closely and mic an amp. The moving parts function reliably well. Knobs and boom harness are plastic, but they are well formed and finished. The base, vertical post, and boom arm are metal. I also have one of these mic stands at my computer with an Audio-Technica at2020 USB mic for zooming. Most other portable boom mic stands have long boom arms that get in the way of other wiring/equipment considerations. I bought 2 of these moukeys, then I bought 2 more when I realized the advantage for using with guitar amplifiers. I'm planning to buy another. What I don't like: The base could be a little heavier to compensate for the full reach of the boom arm (i.e. if I fully extend the boom or even extend it half-way with the audio technica at2020 usb mic, it will tip over). The only other thing I don't like is the 3 foam pads on the bottom of the base. They are thicker than need be and contribute to potential wobble if mic weight/boom reach is not carefully balanced. The design would be better served with a full ring of padding. Overall: I'm pleased. The parts work reliably, the design is pleasant to look at, and the size is better for my needs. ... show more

Was expecting a moderate lil' stand with okay material - it's actually quite solid! The rubber stoppers on the base work very well, and the base itself is super sleek! The crank on the boom arm are fantastic quality, as well as the mic clip it comes with. My only complaint is the stability. No matter how tight the nut/washer is, the top part of the stand always seems to have a bit of a wobble to it, like it's never fully 100% fastened...more like it's 90% of the way there. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this or not - it's not a deal breaker by any means, just something I wish weren't an issue. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I received the mic stand and was impressed with how small, yet heavy the box was. I opened it up and was glad to see some padding on the bottom disc which felt fairly heavy. This bit of padding should prevent your desk or other surfaces from getting scuffed up. It even came with a mic clip for the common design of mics similar to the Shure SM57/58. However, the one problem I had was that it wasn't able to fully support the weight of my sE2200a II C that I like to use for recording. I imagine it has to do with the fact that I have to use a shock mount for that mic which puts its 21.55 oz on one side, but it's still a bummer for me. I simply wish that it was a bit heavier to help with that. If you use any mic that doesn't require a shock mount, I think this is a great stand though. EDIT: I have changed my rating to 5 stars for two reasons. One, I understand my particular mic is pretty heavy and so I thought maybe it'd be a bit unfair to judge it for all mics. Second, If I put the stand on a hard surface instead of carpet, it still had some tilt, but it could support itself and didn't' fall over as easily as I had thought. I bought this stand not for use on a desktop, but as a quick way to mic my guitar amp for recording and when playing venues that will bring your amp into the board. The stand is small, light, but feels very sturdy. I also had zero balance problems with the two mics I used. The provided mic adaptor is well design and will work with all regular-sized microphones. The little "flaps" in the mic adaptor help the mic stay firmly in place without squeezing it too tight. I have a second mic (a copy of a Sennheiser e609) that can be draped over the amp by its cable, but I often think it sounds better when mic'd a little further away from the grill cloth, and wanted to use the stand for this microphone also. It has a very skinny stem. It has its own mic adaptor to match the stem, but it is designed for a large thread mic stand and this Moukey mic stand is a small thread (to keep it small and light). Inside the mic mount provided by Moukey, is an adpater from small thread to large thread: all I had to do was unscrew it from the Moukey adaptor and thread it into the adaptor for my e609 copy. I am very happy with this purchase, it works as well as anything a music store will sell you, but for a fraction of the price. I will defeintely tell my band mates about this. ... show more

    • The bass is not heavy enough

The thing keeps tipping onto my face while im trying to sing into it. The mic is too heavy for the bass. Its annoying. I bought it for my desk work area for recording music.. the idea is right and the product is actually made well. the parts are sturdy. It's just a poor design. also I have trouble keeping the sm7b on there like it just keeps twisting off. could just be a me problem but I worry it will tip and break the mic constantly. ... show more

I bought this desktop stand to hold my Shure PGA 58 microphone while using my Roland E-4 Voice Tweaker. It’s pretty decent quality for a very low cost, no frills stand. I like the fact that the tripod legs don’t take up too much space on my Music Workstation Desk. The tilt adjustment works nicely and it holds my Shure Microphone securely in place. Interesting to note, the included Microphone Clip actually holds my Shure microphone better and tighter than the clip Shure supplied with the microphone. ... show more
