Features

  • Practice in Peace: Our practice mutes are the ideal tool for teaching and learning the trumpet. Offering students an almost silent mute for practice, it maintains a steady pitch for the ideal resistance level and the most accurate intonation.
  • Hone Your Skill: The mute helps new players improve tone quality and learn the art of breath control through opening the throat. By playing loudly in the low register, students learn how to warm up and control breathing while playing their instrument.
  • Brilliant Sound: Each of our products are known for incredible carrying power and amazing intonation. Our practice mutes teach students how to achieve these sounds while maintaining a steady breathing pattern, allowing you to learn painlessly.
  • Built Strong: Weighing 3.66 ounces and measuring at 8 x 6 x 6 inches, all of our practice mutes are made in the UK. Sturdy metal ensures a tough product, while all-natural Portuguese cork allows for easy insertion and removal without scratching the bell.
  • British Pride: The Denis Wick name is synonymous with quality and prestige, changing the music industry with the first mute designed in 1968. The company earned the Queens Award for Enterprise in International Trade in 2013, a most honorable achievement.
  • Most practice mutes are infamous for their deficiencies in pitch, intonation and excessive resistance.

  • Dennis Wick mutes are GREAT!
Size: Practice - 8 x 6 x 6 inches
I bought this one to replace my worn-out practice mute. I have a DW aluminum straight mute that I LOVE, as it’s very responsive, & does what I need (warm & dark, or BRIGHT, depending on the music & my equipment). The practice mute is also responsive, & easy to play. Get one!

  • Great Cup Mute!
Size: Cup - 7.5 x 4.5 x 4.5 inches
I’ve tried other brands of cup mutes in the 50 years I’ve been playing the trumpet. While other brands have been okay, the Denis Wick cup mute has been fantastic. I love the adjustable feature offered by this cup mute. It lets me choose the type of cup mute sound needed, ranging from an open cup to a closed cup sound. I was most impressed with how in tune the mute was right out of the box. I went to shave the corks to get the mute in tune and found that I had to do very little to bring this mute into pitch. I can’t say that about the competitors’ mutes, but this Denis Wick cup mute was pretty much in tune the first time I put it into my bell. Great product! ... show more

  • Quiet practice mute...
Size: Practice - 8 x 6 x 6 inches
Dennis Wick Trumpet Practice Mute Pros: - small and light enough to keep in a gig bag and take it with you. - sufficiently quiet to block out most volume. It's not "silent" like the Yamaha practice mute, but you also don't need ear-phones with this one. I can actually practice a lick when the rest of a concert band is rehearsing, without bothering anyone. Should be good enough for a condo/apartment or while someone else is sleeping, if you have a closed door between you. - good quality, as are all Denis Wick mutes. E.g., the corked end is very well done and it stays in the bell. - in tune and distortion-free to a low F# and the pedal tones well below that, unlike my much heavier (and obsolete) Charlie Spivak WISPA Mute. - relatively inexpensive. Cons: - has a bit of back pressure, but it's not too bad. The mute seals the entire bell off except for two 3/16" diameter holes facing you. - results in a highly "muted" sound. Recommended. ... show more

  • Nice range!
Size: Cup - 7.5 x 4.5 x 4.5 inches
Stays in the horn! Sound great at different muted levels. Easy to adjust.

  • Very quiet
Size: Practice - 8 x 6 x 6 inches
It's very quiet, but I think calling it a "hotel" mute Is very generous. I live in a townhouse and I practice in my basement so I try to avoid annoying the neighbors. I say it does a pretty decent job, but I still would choose what hours of the day I play very carefully.

  • Reasonably priced cup mute, fast delivery and good quality
Size: Synthetic - 8 x 4 x 12 inches
Good cup mute.

  • My trumpet player loves it!
Size: Extending - 6.3 x 3.94 x 3.94 inches
This is one of the things my teenage son said he wanted for his recently purchased new used professional trumpet. He has solos with the Sr trumpet player this year, which is unheard to for a lower classman at this school, and is preparing to take over the Sr trumpet spotlight next year. This is something he wanted to practice and get good enough with that his band director will incorporate into spring concert competitions this season (covid pending allowance of the competitions) or next year. We purchased this particular item under advisement of his band director whose instrument of choice is the trumpet as well. This is the first mute my son has had and the first time he just played around with it playing his solo material from marching season the sound quality was awesome. I'm not a musician but I have used music as a form of therapy since I was in HS marching band myself and just playing around with this mute the quality of the sound and pitch sounded like what you would hear from a professional live band gig. The price runs about what it does on other websites, all being significantly less than what the nearest local shop sells them for. We will go with this particular brand when my trumpet player wants to add to his variety of tools to use in his trumpet playing and potential performances. ... show more
