Description

A deep space mining crew is on the surface of a planet where they are proceeding with the extraction of a mysterious monolithic planet marker, a job which makes the miners uneasy. Suddenly, the main ship experiences a power outage, cutting them off from the miners down below as the miners are attacked by an inhuman enemy which kills anyone in sight and then turns their corpses into lifeless murderous drones. The last surviving miners manage to pilot a shuttle back to the ship but not before they are infected, brining the infection aboard the Ishimura. It is up to the security team aboard the Ishimura to fight the invasion of infectors while trying to stay alive until help arrives

  • Did not know this was a game.
Watched cause the floating hand looked kinda eerily cool. Read the comments and found out its based on a game. *spoiler alert spoiler alert* Youtubed the game to see it starts immediately after this movie. *spoiler alert spoiler alert* Cool. Compared to the graphics in the game, I wish they put more effort in the animation. I felt like I was watching an anime TV version of Space Quest 6. Sound and sound effects could be worked on. The characters were sometimes annoyingly stupid. But, I'm a hater and most things annoy me. It was entertaining, though. I enjoyed it from start to finish. There weren't any real lulls in action. I could see being a much bigger fan of the movie if I was a fan of the game. Would recommend. ... show more

  • Still a great film, glad to own it properly.
Film arrived in solid condition (this is maybe a month or so later) but it plays great and the film itself is great as is. If you're a fan of the games this is a solid prequel film set before the first game (and still better than Aftermath honestly.

  • For Fans of the Series
Chances are by this point if you're considering purchasing this, its either because you are a fan of the series or you're buying as a gift for someone who is. In either situation, you won't be disappointed if you enjoyed Dead Space 1 as it explains how the infection began. Also, the VA's all seem pretty invested in their dialog and overall I'd recommend it. ... show more

  • If you didn't play the game, this isn't what you think it is
This is a movie based on a video game. As such, it is constrained by the pre-built universe. However, as video game movies go, this really isn't a bad one. It's faithful to the source, and while it unfolds extremely predictably, it's a prequel. It's locked into what we know comes after. I am noticing however that a lot of the negative reviews are missing some crucial elements. One, just because it's a cartoon does not mean it's supposed to be kid or family friendly. This is 2020. I thought we'd left that idea in the dirt 20 years ago, but apparently some people haven't gotten the memo. Two, it's a movie based on a mature rated horror action game. It's violent, it's bloody, people curse, that's the genre. If you missed the memo in point one, point two is going to make you highly upset. Three, the characters are doing a lot of dumb things because one of the integral points of the Marker is that it drives people crazy. This includes the protagonist of the actual game. Nobody is immune. People do stupid, insane things because they are being driven to it. In most movies that would be bad writing, here it's a core element. Dead Space is essentially a hamfisted lovecraftian system. ... show more

  • Not bad. Not Great. Just Average but Enjoyable Horror Sci-fi
First of all, this is not Japanese animation. And according to some comments this is a prequel to a video game I never heard of. But I did like it and I can definitely recommend it. The story wasn't as predictable as people are saying. I mean, once we read a character personality, we all know how they would react. And most characters were that in this movie. That still doesn't make the story as a whole predictable. It quite surprised at times. The annoying thing for me is the voice acting. The voice acting does not match at all the kind of story we are being told. The dialog are borderline absurd in at times, if you want my opinion. No offense to voice actors out there. But this is what you get when you don't respect animes enough to put serious actors on them. Japan is paving the way and others will follow. Not all animes are for kids. So what else? Other than voice acting, the drawing is average but not bad. The animation is average and ridiculous at times. The main heroine always does a back flip when coming out an air ducts... All in all, the story holds this movie together, otherwise I would have passed. ... show more

  • Decent bridge between the DLC animated comics and the game.
For those of you who aren't aware, there's significant story arcs precluding the Dead Space game. They come in the form of animated comics released an "issue" at a time on both XBL and PSN. These are free downloads and even if you don't purchase Downfall, I strongly recommend downloading the comic series. Downfall takes place in the space between the animated comics and the game. It's a decent story about how a seemingly routine "planet crack" goes awry when a "marker" is found on the planet being excavated. There's a nice story here but I don't think it's absolutely necessary to watch to fully enjoy the game. I feel that although the animation was well done and the gore was on par with the game, the story just wasn't creepy or deep enough to really make it a hit. The creepiness in the animated comics was largely lost in the feature film. Don't get me wrong, it's no Disney movie, I just don't think it was quite on par with its predecessor. Unfortunately, it seemed like one of the major climax/action sequences exists only in the deleted scenes and even then it only exists as an animatic (meaning a series of uncolored rough sketches displayed in succession with audio tracks overlayed, for those unfamiliar with the term.) Finally I wasn't really impressed with the quality of the blu-ray format. There's some extras in the BluRay live section that I imagine don't exist in DVD form, but I still don't think that the Blu-Ray version is worth the extra $5. The promised cheat codes exist as easter eggs within the movie. Not a big deal for me, but just wanted to give a heads up to those who expect a card with codes listed on it when they open their case. Honestly, it's not a bad movie by any means. I just think they could've pushed the creepiness a little more as well as putting higher highs and lower lows in the story arc. If you're really psyched about the franchise it's worth getting (again, I'd grab the DVD version and save your five dollars.) If you're on the fence, you may want to rent or borrow it first. If you have no intention of playing the game and are just looking for a good horror anime, I would look elsewhere. ... show more
