  • Nice amp
Sound is so subjective. If we all heard the same then there would only be a handful of speakers for sale. I am somewhere between and every day person and an audiophile, probably more like and audio enthusiast. I enjoy crystal clarity of sound and imaging. I am a 2 speaker stereo person, surround sound is fine, but I would rather have 2 great speakers instead of 6 or 8 ‘average’ surround sound speakers. I had a plate amp on the back of a subwoofer I built. It was an NHT1259 in a sealed box. I was powered by a 250 watt plate amp built in to the sub enclosure. I had it for years and liked it. After a night of running this plate amp at very high volume it got too hot and burned some components. One of the things I never liked about the plate amp was that the controls were on the back of the sub. It was a pain to adjust while listening and had to go by memory of which knob did what function. I got this SA1000 amp to replace it and am very happy. The amp is a very heavy unit, as it has a nice heavy transformer (always a big plus). I enjoy the front mounted controls as I can see what knob I am adjusting (as opposed to a plate amp on the back of a subwoofer). I ran the amp all night and it did not get hot to the touch. It did get slightly warm. I has more punch than my older 250 watt plate amp and it is more clean sounding. My only complaints: The soft clip circuitry is useless as when it clips it is just as bad as any clipping amp and the blue power button, it is too bright. The amp does not have any audible hum when in use. ... show more

  • Great sounding, very rugged and powerful and flexible sub amp, but has turn on thump
This thing is built like a tank and provides very high fidelity bottom end, and a lot of power. The parametric EQ is an excellent feature, as is the multiple turn-on options, with either auto-sense, 12v trigger, or manual. It would be a solid 5 stars if it weren't for that nasty power on thump. They really should've designed a delay relay or another means to prevent this, especially at this price point. But I'm keeping it for the fidelity, The Dayton Class AB/Class G Sub Amps really sound excellent. I have some of their plate amps too. ... show more

  • The sound is very clean and blends in great with my 200w mono blocks
This is what my system needed. With my two home made sub enclosures. Now they get all the power to drive them. The sound is very clean and blends in great with my 200w mono blocks. Set at 80hz to 100hz with a little over half gain was it and done. It's good they give so ways to control the output. Well, for those who really need it. Otherwise keeping it simple works the best for most. This amp is not complicated unless your trying to do to much with it. The "less is more" formula works just fine. Look I'm listening to it right now and it sounds great with very little set up. The only thing to complain about is the LED light could of had a dimmer installed. But a easy fix was with a small drop of nail polish from wife. Now it's not so bright anymore. Overall I am real happy and believe it to be a very good amp. ... show more

  • Cost me more money now
The edges are so sharp, it put a 12" hole in a HD yoga ball. Who thinks this is ok? Dangerous. This is going to cost me $600 now. WTH people!?

  • Great value
I use this amplifier to drive an 18 inch Cervin Vega XL 18S in an infinite baffle mounting. The sound is great and the power is plenty. The adjustments for frequency, phase and EQ work well. However, I would prefer larger knobs, especially for the gain potentiometer.

  • Super bright power LED, No way this thing is hitting 1000 watts when it starts clipping.
Bought this to power 2 12" subs for a home theater system. With a 4 ohm load to the amp is appears to start clipping about the time it starts really driving the subs. The blue power light will start flashing red, which I am guessing means the amp is clipping as the extremely limited documentation sent with it does not even mention that feature. A call to Parts Express tech service concerning the auto shutoff feature cleared up my concerns about the amp not shutting off when the rest of the sound system was shut down. The LED is so bright that unless you are looking directly at it when the amp goes into standby you will never see the difference. The single frequency cut or boost feature was useful since I had a weird buzzy vibration somewhere in my living room I could not seem to isolate or find. Since it was most noticeable at 70 Hz I used the amp to attenuate that frequency. Cutting 70 Hz really helped and did not seem to interfere with the sound quality of the bass. Once it was set up and dialed in it blended well with the old 5.1 system I have used for years. The amp appears solid but since it starts clipping so quickly, that makes it a little disappointing. Perhaps the red LED means something other than the amp is clipping, but I will need to call the seller to ask about that. If it is something else I will follow up with a correction. ... show more

  • Almost perfect amp.
I would give it 4.5 stars if possible. I was hoping to push 2 Niles GSS10 in-ground subwoofers, but this amp doesn't quite do it. The subs, themselves are rated at 500 watts RMS (8 ohms), so you'd think that this 1,000 watt amplifier would be able to handle them both. When I only hook up one of the in-ground subs to this amplifier, it definitely kicks butt though. In the end, I'm having to purchase another one of these amps to power the other subwoofer I installed. Not disappointed in this amplifier, I just had hopes that it would be able to handle the subs as advertised. ... show more
