Description

DANIEL SMITH Extra Fine Watercolors - classic watercolors of unsurpassed purity and permanence. The vision in the formulation of DANIEL SMITH watercolors was twofold; First and foremost, to produce watercolors that are the best in lightfastness and permanence.Second, to offer a selection of truly unique colors. DANIEL SMITH Watercolors are formulated to meet and exceed the highest industry standards for the manufacture of artist’s paints, and every batch made is tested and analyzed for its performance qualities. DANIEL SMITH is truly the worldwide leader of watercolors for artists with 240+ beautiful colors in the 15ml watercolors, the most of any manufacturer. Many are traditional colors relied upon by all artists, and there are many “truly unique” colors made only by DANIEL SMITH that have become so important to watercolor artists. PrimaTek Watercolors are made from minerals, often semi precious minerals, that have been ground into pigments, mixed with gum arabic (the binder) and milled into PrimaTek Watercolors. The first was Lapis Lazuli Genuine in 1998, since then, many more have been added such as Amethyst Genuine, Piemontite Genuine and Serpentine Genuine. Most of these colors have wonderful granulating effects that some artists have called “magical”. Luminescent Watercolors have special optical effects perfect for subjects that have a sparkle, sheen, or reflective glow like the iridescence of hummingbird feathers or the sheen of metals. Cadmium Hues, DANIEL SMITH has developed safe and vibrant Cadmium Hues with the density and richness of cadmium colors without the cadmium pigment. Virtually identical in color to their namesakes, they are cleaner in mixtures and much stronger in tints. The working properties – staining power, semi-transparency and excellent lightfastness – are nearly identical to those of the low-soluble cadmium colors DANIEL SMITH previously manufactured. Some unique colors are created exclusively by DANIEL SMITH like Cascade Green, Green Gold and Moonglow. DANIEL SMITH also finds unusual pigments to make colors like Mayan Red, Lunar Blue and Enviro-Friendly Red Iron Oxide to provide more choices for artists. Other colors are from pigments DANIEL SMITH has sourced, often from very specific locations, colors like Burgundy Yellow Ochre, Monte Amiata Natural Sienna and Roasted French Ochre. DANIEL SMITH Watercolors are a favorite of artists all over the world, from professional artists to the beginning watercolorists because of the beautiful colors, consistent performance and lasting color or lightfastness. DANIEL SMITH Watercolors are packed with high quality pigments using pure gum arabic as the binder – no fillers. For each color, DANIEL SMITH selects the perfect grind to yield particle sizes that maximize the qualities inherent in the pigment, balancing maximum pigment load with minimum vehicle content. DANIEL SMITH offers many ways to experience their Watercolors as well as providing extra creative means for artists with their Watercolor Grounds, Masking Fluid and Walnut Ink. 15ml Watercolors, available in more than 240 colors, the most of any manufacturer.5ml Watercolors, available in 88 of the most popular colors DANIEL SMITH makes.Watercolor Sticks, 51 popular DANIEL SMITH Watercolors shaped into stick form to draw and paint with, a new way to expressively use watercolors.Watercolor Dot Cards, a great way to try DANIEL SMITH Watercolors without buying whole tubes of paint. These are dots of pure DANIEL SMITH Watercolors that reactivate into paint with the touch of a wet brush, allowing artists to easily and cost effectively, try many colors. Two sizes: 238 Dot Card to try nearly the entire line of DANIEL SMITH Watercolors and the 66 Dot Card to try many DANIEL SMITH Watercolors.PrimaTek Watercolors, 37 PrimaTek Watercolors, made from minerals, many semi-precious, that are ground into pigments and made into unique watercolors. • Not for beginners
Style: Essentials Introductory Pack
These paints are very expensive, don’t get me wrong they are brilliant paints, but as a beginner, I’m not sure I’d start out with paints that are so expensive.

  • Amazing pigment and colors!
Style: Essentials Introductory Pack
I swatched and mixed all the colors and I love these paints so much. They are very bright and vibrant and pack quite a punch for water colors the French ultramarine is a bit grainy but over all pretty good these are my new favorite paints

  • The basic split palette all in one box
Style: Essentials Introductory Pack
A split palette consists of primary colors: red yellow and blue, but split between warm and cool versions. This palette has five ml tubes (small but good for trying out) and the colors are Pyrrol Scarlet (warm red, replaces Cadmium Red.) Quinacridone Rose (cool red, replaces Alizarin Crimson) Hansa Yellow Light (cool greenish yellow, replaces Cadmium Lemon) New Gamboge (warm yelllow, replaces Gamboge no longer made) French Ultramarine (warm blue, reddish) Phthalo Blue Green Shade (GS cool, greenish Replaces the less stable Prussian Blue) Some notes: The New Gamboge oozed out of the tube, this is due to chemical properties of the pigments and binders. The other colors did not ooze out. The Phthalo blue is a beautiful almost turquoise blue and it's VERY strong. It's pretty close to primary cyan. It will stain. It won't lift (come off paper with water in the brush) very easily. But it's a gorgeous color. French Ultramarine is the only color that is one of the oldest originals in palettes and it granulates a bit. You can get any color mixing these six; you'd only possibly add two more: Burnt Sienna (or Quinacridone Sienna) and either Yellow Ochre or Quinacridone Gold (warm, earthy gold.) or raw sienna, a more transparent version of yellow ochre. Of the choices, I prefer the quinacridones and raw sienna but it's your choice. These eight make a perfect landscape palette. The Pyrrol Red replaces Cadmium Red and is less opaque. I prefer it over the old Cadmium Red likewise prefer Hansa Yellow to Cadmium Yellow Lemon or any of the cadmium pigments. Not sorry to see them go. ... show more

  • Some of my favorite colors now 💞
Style: Primatek Introductory Pack
I absolutely love these! I really enjoy painting with granulating colors to create some great texture in my work, and these just hit the mark. Rhodonite makes an interesting mixer and adds texture to every color you mix it with. On its own, it's like a slightly muted quinacridone rose. My one complaint is that if you work it too much on the paper, the paper appears to pill. Almost like the paper was made rough while the paint was going down. I mix a lot on the page, so for this color I just switch to mixing on a palette. Piemontite has a beautiful red wash with gray granulation. It's one of my favorite red mixers to add that black texture in the tooth of the paper. In terms of dispersion, it flies across the paper. Amethyst has a little of that black granulation, but this color has the most beautiful glittery sheen in the light. Mayan Blue is the most beautiful gray toned blue. It has quite a bit of granulation on the page, but there isn't much separation of color. Jadeite is my go-to green. The tint is a mossy tone and the granulation is a darker brown color. The mass tone is very dark and concentrated. Hematite is just interesting to look at. It lifts right off the paper when needed, and it granulates very heavily. It makes a great mixture if you want to force that granulating property with a non granulating color. If you're looking for some interesting and playful colors, I highly recommend this set. ... show more

  • Love these Primatek
Style: Primatek Introductory Pack
This is a great starter collection of Primatek colors. Top row excluding Bloodstone is this intro set. All the colors are very easy to work with and have lovely granulation properties. Jadeite is a wonderful vibrant green, and the sparkle in amethyst is truly gorgeous. Daniel Smith has some lovely options in their mineral-based watercolors, and I actually find myself drawn to them over the traditional colors due to their uniqueness. ... show more

  • Expensive for tiny quantity!
Style: Primatek Introductory Pack
I was so disappointed in size...such a tiny amount for so much money...sorry I bought it. Good paint though...I would have been better off buying individual tubes in the long run. This should be sold as a sampling.
