Was successful on the first attempt to catch the mark, but, the tubes are so thin that the pole bent in half in the process. It really isn't characteristic of sport to be 'gentle'. Will need to replace this with one which is more sturdy.

Also got one of the spear heads that go with the handle. It will be used for flounder gigging in the Texas bays. Really happy to have found both since what is sold around here for gigging is pretty lightweight, thin wall aluminum tubing and tiny little light wire gig points.
