Description

This is a replacement flex section with flange for all 2005-2012 Chevy Cobalts, Saturn Ion's, Pontiac G5 and Chevy HHR's. 2.4 is a direct fit while the 2.2 you will have to cut it shorter to retain the o2 sensor bung from your factory pipe and the 2.2 factory pipe will slide into this pipe (Except for turbocharged 2.0 2008+) The stock flex is junk which commonly break from the factory especially if it is a manual transmission car and instead of forcing people to buy an entire downpipe like the dealer would make you do for over $350 to $400 you can take this piece to an exhaust shop and have them cut off the old flex section and weld this into your existing downpipe so you can retain your factory catalytic converter. This includes a one piece flange, piping, flex section and an OEM style gasket. The flex section is the highest grade interlock. Most other styles you see are just the mesh. Interlock is a stronger material underneath the mesh.

I have suspected a while back that my old flex pipe had been leaking, but I couldn't really feel anything. It seemed like I could hear some exhaust sound under the hood when I would accelerate, but thought this was normal. After driving over a dead porcupine in the middle of the road, the exhaust noise seemed a little louder and some of my "get-up-and-go" seemed to be missing. So I felt around the flex pipe again and even put my hand under it while being careful not to touch anything else hot and I was able to feel the exhaust gasses. Right away, I ordered this and called my local shop who said they'd do it $98/hr plus tax. The final bill ended up being $108 and some change. After they got the new flex pipe welded in, the exhaust noise under the hood is gone, the car is so much quieter, it has gobs of power that I've been missing this whole time, it doesn't downshift nearly as much on the hills, and my fuel mileage might've went up. Hard to tell since I've been enjoying this extra power. I mean, it's so smooth now when I romp on it to pass someone. Also, I have to go up this one mountain on my way to work. Just at the bottom, it used to jerk when I'd start to go up it. Thought maybe the transmission was confused because I'm suddenly going uphill. It'd jerk at this same spot and only that spot and only that mountain. The jerking is gone now. Not sure why it did that. With 173,000 miles, it seems to run and drive like a new car now. Great product. Used it on a 2006 Cobalt 2.2 and worked perfect. Only downside is that its a little bigger than the stock. Recomend you weld it on

Flange end and gasket was a perfect fit. The diameter of the pipe is slightly larger if you are going to clamp it it might be difficult but I welded mine and it worked great. Vehicle was a Saturn ion.

The quality of the exhaust part looks top notch, but only time will tell if it holds up. If you are reading this review, you probably came to the same conclusion as I did. I had no intention of letting some cut rate muffler shop do this job for $400 dollars. The only issue I had was not knowing if this part would work on my car 2007 Pontiac G5 with the Eco tech 2.2L (a very similar vehicle to the Cobalt). From the pictures it looked very similar to what I needed. After removing the pipe from the car it was a very simple modification to make it work as needed. (See photos) All I had to do was remove the small bend on the tail of the pipe, then fit and weld in place. the tools required are, some sort of saw (saws all, portaband, bandsaw etc.) AND a welder. Had I not removed approximately 3" off the tail of the piece it would have interfered with the oxygen sensor. The remaining section of pipe on the flex coupler allowed for a very nice "slip" fit that was easily welded. Hope this review helps someone else out. ... show more

Awesome product, it saved me at least $500. The cost estimate for the repair was between $675 and $960 at name brand and local muffler shops. With the $48 part I had the repair done at Midas for $150 min labor, it takes about 90 minutes for the repair. My 2004 Saturn Ion Quad Coupe is now quiet again. If I could weld or had a buddy that could weld the repair would have only cost $48 and my time ... show more

Cheap and great flex pipe. Was able to fix my 06 cobalt with only $60 instead of the $400 I was quoted. Now my car doesnt have an exhaust leak and runs like its brand new.

The flange fit exactly like the stock one, but the diameter of the pipe is larger so you will need to fill it with welds. Also, it did not include the gaskets, so you’ll have to buy those too. If you know how to weld, this is a fairly easy fix. 2009 cobalt 2.2 liter

Had to cut the pipe a little shorter for it to fit right with the O2 sensor. After that I welded it on and it makes for a great fit.
