  • Finished product is beautiful!
Color: Nebula Common Room
I received the Magic Pharmacist as a Christmas gift and spent 2 cold, rainy, gloomy days putting it together. I got the book nook bug BAD! I LOVED putting this project together. I read all reviews on it before I started and saw that many people complained about the cauldron. One lady said she saw another reviewer say to put the pieces in water first and when I came to the cauldron, I made myself a cup of tea and poured another cup of hot water. I took a tweezer and dipped each piece individually in the hot water for maybe 2-3 seconds, took it out, wiped it off with a clean towel and can honestly say that the cauldron was the easiest part to make. Every single piece came out effortlessly and snapped together perfectly requiring no glue. I used the extra candelabra and glued that in the cauldron and also glued the two skull “stirrers” together and glued both of them in the cauldron. I’m also a beader and used my own beads to embellish the potion bottles rather than use the beads provided. The only complaint I have about this kit it the touch sensor never worked properly and that turned out to be a blessing in disguise because the touch button was inside the kit which would require you to open it every time you wanted the light on so I turned it around and all I have to do is pull the unit out and reach underneath it and touch the button on the bottom-without having to open the dust cover and get fingerprints all over it. It took me 2 leisurely days to finish it and I absolutely love the finished product. I immediately bought the Nebula Room (Ravenclaw), the Flame Room (Griffendor) and Grandfather’s Antique store. On the the Nebula Room - in the first paragraph on the first page, it says if the pieces are too tight, sand them with the “glass rod” (it’s a tiny Emory board). I started to get frustrated with this one because nearly EVERY piece needed to be sanded. I decided not to get angry and just accept the fact that I had to sand every piece ( & sometimes had to glue them because I sanded too much). That being said, I finished it in 2 days and LOVE the finished product. Also, cute bee must have seen the design flaw of having the touch button inside the unit and now it’s on the top side with a sweet little design to show you where it’s at. Again, finished product is gorgeous. The only complaint with this project is I got a defective piece. On the back panel, you’re supposed to create a hatch door for the battery to go in and mine was missing the 2 holes to insert the door hinge into. I emailed the company and they responded right away and said they were sending a new back panel. I’m still waiting for the part. On to the Flame Room. Once again, I got parts that punched out perfectly and fit together perfectly EXCEPT for one small part on the organ which broke in half (J10). I was able to glue it together and mark in up with a matching magic marker to hide the damage. Also, the skull candelabra was a failure. It didn’t fit, WOULD NEVER FIT, and broke apart beyond repair. There was a big skull that went in front of the lightbulb and that’s what I have. Other than that, it’s beautiful and was fun to make. I don’t rush these projects and this one too took me about 1.5 days to make and I love the finished product. I don’t know if I’m getting better at these or if there were fewer pieces but I finished Grandfather’s Antique Store in one day with absolutely no errors, no frustration and it’s perfect. I’d like to share some tips I used if they help just one person, I did my good deed for the day. First, I have Exacto knives and used then to cut through the tiny attachments - no breakage at all. Again, I do a lot of bead work and I found that when you’re gluing beads together, you’re basically gluing together two holes. I poked a toothpick through the first bead, glued the second bead on and poked the toothpick into the tiny holes in the Amazon box it came in until they dried (see photo). I also used a magic marker in matching color to dab the little points where the items were attached ( Crayola markers - cheap and they worked fine). When I went to peel the film off of the top cover and dust cover, I simply placed a piece of tape (either the tape tabs provided or my own scotch tape), on one corner and the film peels off effortlessly. I hope these tips help someone else making these projects. I found the instructions easy to follow - just pay attention to what’s shown. Overall, I give CuteBee 5 stars for these kits. I just wished they’d hurry up and make a Hufflepuff and Slytherin kit to complete my Harry Potter book nooks. (An Herbology greenhouse and Great Hall, maybe a Quidditch field would be great, too!) ;) Update 2-20-24 - just received the replacement back panel for the nebula room. Five stars to CuteBee for their customer service. ... show more

  • I love this!! Want another one.
Color: Nebula Common Room
This is my second DIY bookshelf kit. It's light years easier than the first one I purchased, and it turned out so nice! Okay. The directions that come with this are amazing. Everything is labeled well. It's in color. It's almost fool proof. There are only a couple of times when I messed up, but they were on little tiny parts, that I was able to remove and do over. Almost every delicate or small piece in this kit has a back-up, and you will be thankful about that. (Some other kits have almost no back-up pieces, which is frustrating). Snapping pieces into place, especially the thin ones, you will likely break at least one. Some pieces will tend to be difficult. I used my thumbs, and ruined my thumb nail trying to put pieces into place. LOL I do tend to use glue to hold most pieces down, just in case. Regular glue (or some cheap wood glue) works perfectly. Many pieces don't really need it, though. This kit has the wiring all ready to go. You don't need to do any soldering, or taping of wires. WOO HOO!! The last time I did a DIY kit, I had to have my husband help entirely with the lighting. This time, it was so much easier. I did it 100% by myself! And it all works! LOL It's touch lighting, which is awesome. I wasn't sure how it would work, because the mechanism is on the other side of the wood. But it really does. So cool! The colors on this are beautiful. It all comes together so nice! Very professional looking. It even has a dust cover that slides into place. I absolutely love this kit, and want to send it to my cousin and her kids. It's a fun family activity, or one that pretty much anyone could do 100% on their own. You'll be so impressed with it- and with yourself!- when its finished! ... show more

  • Super fun!
Color: Nebula Common Room
This was the first (of several) book nook kits I bought, and it set a high bar. The wood is good quality and not prone to splintering, the pieces often have generous cutout areas (a thing which I did not appreciate as being as useful at the time, since I worried it would make them fall out more easily, but it makes it SO much easier to get things out without breaking them), and there are duplicates of almost every very small or delicate piece, just in case something untoward happens. A tool to help breaking the smaller pieces out was also sent, and was very useful! Most of the pieces fit snugly and well, but usually the fit wasn't so tight that I couldn't get them in with minimal effort. I glued almost everything for added stability, but in most cases it wasn't super needed. The instructions were very clear and detailed and easy to follow, the only thing that caused any confusion was how many stickers I was supposed to roll up or fold in one specific step where several ideas were presented, and I ended up using some that were meant for something else later on. On the whole this felt very beginner friendly, and was a very fun time to put together. Most of the pieces have places that they slot physically into in the nook, so there are very few pieces that you can move around if you want to reorganize, and all of the printing is only on one side of the wood, which means that sometimes the way the pieces interlock is important to keep bare wood from being displayed, but the instructions are always very specific even about things like that. I spent about three days putting this together and greatly enjoyed myself. ... show more
