  • Pure Arcade racing fun
Bought due to reviews I seen on youtube. Was a fan of Crusin' back in the N64 days.I never knew this existed til seeing YouTube reviews. Never played the Arcade version. I love arcade racers more than simulators. Usually they are quite shallow not much by way of car selection and features but this is not the case. This has a lot of depth for an Arcade racer. Numerous cars, tracks, and upgrades. Insane tracks from cityscapes to racing through icescapes or junglescapes with monsters. Varing car types from Camaros Corvettes to helicopters and dinosaurs. Colorful graphics still look good. A bit dated but being its an arcade game from years back it still looks good. If you like Arcade style racers with crazy tracks this is for you. ... show more

  • Almost A Blast
When it has came down to the Nintendo Switch, there have been a lot of good & decent retro racing games that have came out for the console. Some of them work very hell like Horizon Chase Turbo, which handles great & has a great retro-feel with the gameplay & graphics that brings memories of classics like Top Gear & Outrun. Others have more 90's kind of appeal in graphics like Hotshot Racing, which has a appeal to games like Sega's Virtua Racing & Daytona USA. But when you look at the 90's in arcades, no racing series dominated more than the Crusin' Series of race games that Midway/Atari managed to accomplish. The games were remarkable & showcased the best amount of wild & whimsical gameplay. But the franchise which had greats like Crusin' World & Exotica that followed up fairly well fell off of the arcade scene once the mid 2000's came around. Years after Midway & Atari declared bankruptcy, Raw Thrills decided to make their own version of the Crusin' franchise with Crusin' Blast for the arcades in 2017. The move was good that it would be available for the Nintendo Switch in 2021. But is the Switch version worth it, Mostly a yes & a no. Crusin' Blast for the Nintendo Switch harkens as a average love letter to the 90's Cruisn' series of games that made the Nintendo 64 back in the 90's like Crusin' World & USA. But it leaves a lot more to be desired in regards to gameplay in the end. The game has mainly 2 modes to master: the arcade mode & Crusin' Tour Mode, which mainly is more like mini-versions of the arcade courses representing London, Arizona & Las Vegas, Brazil & Hollywood. The arcade modes is mainly the 5 traditional courses from the 2017 arcade game, which looks nice & works for only a few minutes of gameplay. But the tour mode has a few highs & a lot of lows, which mainly can hinder the longevity you get out of the game, which is sad. The highs are mainly in the graphics & controls, which is eye-popping & control-wise works grand as well. The graphics have a lot of wonderful moments like seeing UFO's on the course in Africa & Hollywood look wild, but lack a lot of variety in regards to longer gameplay. It is fine for just a few minutes of gameplay, but not anything definitive to fun. The music is also decent, bringing in more of a late 80's pop vibe to the game that feels good, but lags on diversity & can be a problem if you want to turn it off. There are a lot of cars to unlock as well, which are more abstract in regards to racing such as helicopters, dinosaurs & unicorns. It is interesting, but loses appeal in the process. Where the game faults though is mainly a lack of diversity & that is easy to see in regards to the lack of variety in courses. While they are fine for a few minutes, they are not for fans of longer, more enjoyable titles like Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. When you look at the variants of the courses, seeing bits & pieces from the arcade courses in the same snapshots throughout the tour mode can easily wear you down, as it mainly is rehashing the same courses from before, where if you want more variety in places you want to play like Australia or New York, you don't get them & that is a shame. The lack of multiplayer also makes this a problem, considered you only get up to 4 in a local multiplayer setting & no online multiplayer as a problem Also, the fact that the courses are so short with time, you only get a few minutes out of it or fun, instead of days on end with a title like Mario Kart 8 or Team Sonic Racing. All in all, I had expected more variety to make up for that in regards to courses & well, I felt bored of it within a few hours. What Crusin' Blast does work in is the graphics & controls, but with a lack of variety with longevity is where the game mainly falls on the feet. I like what it has to offer with the cars, but I don't get more out of it for the long run, the way a blast from the past showed like Outrun. It is decent-minded but needed much more to have fun with in the end to make it a must-buy. It would be fine if it is was more of a budget title with extra content, but there are so many disadvantages that prevent me from recommending this game for a longer time that once I beat all the modes in easy, I burned out of the cockpit so fast, I just said that was it. If you've played the Crusin' games from the 90's you will get some excitement out of it, but not a lot in the end for hard core racers. Graphics: B+ Sound: B- Control: B Fun & Enjoyment: C for solo play; C+ for multiplayer Overall: C+ ... show more
