  • Very complete book for Nubies and more advanced Crafters
Much information on all things a beginner and more advanced Cricut Lovers alike need. Many topics, just what I needed. A great reference book with illustrations of steps to assist you more completely in gaining knowledge in using your Cricut. I feel this is a great purchase.

  • Soooooo much information!!
I bought her first book and loved it. Ordered this one and was blown away with the amount of information in it! The info is well written and presented in a clear, easy to understand manner. I read it through, and now it's a reference book that I keep in my craft room so I can easily refer back to it. If you're a Cricut user, you need this book. It's not just for Newbies, there's stuff in there for even more advanced crafters as well. (There was even a tip in it that I've never seen on any Cricut Crafting video, which really allowed me to step it up when cutting Christmas lanterns!) ... show more

  • It is actually great for REAL newbies.
First I would like to start by saying I am a true newbie. The only other time I made a project prior to reading this was a simple cutout of shapes more than 5 years ago. I have an Explore Air, and my other family members have been using it for years after I found another hobby. I would also like to say that anyone who didn’t get what they needed from this book may not be a newbie. It does not tell you or show you how to complete your own projects, that’s not what the book is for. I read it from cover to cover and followed along even when I felt like I would never use some features. It DID help me conquer my anxiety about layers and design space. Knowing when you could/should use various features and what they do is they key and understanding layers really made me feel like I could create a project on my own and at least just play around and explore what I can/can’t do with it. What made the whole book worth it for me when Delara explained layers and what occurs/why when you create a cut only project and a print then cut project. Because some of the -projects that I plan to create will mainly be print then cut, this was very important but I definitely now have the confidence to do vinyl projects. People don’t explain simple things like this on you tube and keep in mind that everyone can’t teach- they can show you what they do but they are not good at explaining the details, the whys and what happens if you don’t do something. That is what I like about this book. I always want to know what happens if you don’t….it helps me learn and lock the concept in. I also want to thank Delara for keeping her promise of not forgetting what design space BEAST was like for her the first time. This puts you in the best mindset to help someone else just learning. Because it is a book about a program that is updated regularly, you may expect that you may not be running the same version as shown in the book. For the most part the screen shots are pretty close with the exception of: in the layers panel, the desktop version design space 8.3.52, it does not show the first letter of the word for text layers, it simply shows a “T” for text. I am running Mac OS Big Sur version 11.6.5. Both have been updated. Lastly, there were some typos in the book. While I am a stickler for that, It was not riddled with typos like one of the reviewers said. I knew what she meant, and I had to remind myself that the typo is not preventing me from learning what she was teaching. It is my opinion that anyone who did not get what they needed are probably more advanced and they know all of this stuff. 🤗 ... show more

  • Helpful...except for Joy owners!
This book (2023 version) is well written and entertaining enough to make learning the software fun. I encountered a problem this afternoon. I was trying to "flatten" an image. I kept doing everything in the order the author instructed, but the "flatten" option was not available. I spent 2.5 hours on this. I actually went to contact support and was in the que waiting for an associate to get to me. I was telling my husband what I was doing when I mentioned that I wanted to learn how to flatten images even though my Joy is not able to do Print & Cut. It occurred to me that the reason it wasn't working was the machine I have selected in Design Space on my computer is the Joy. I went back to Design Space and changed my machine choice to the Maker and instantly "flatten" appeared. It would have been extremely helpful if the author mentioned that--it would have saved me 2.5 hours!!! The author should point out that various options are not available for certain machines. I had a software update recently and sincerely thought that there might be a bug in the system, not allowing me to flatten images. The only other problem I've had is there have been software updates since the book was printed and there are differences between the current software and what is pictured is different. There is no solution...I just mention it so buyers are aware. All in all, the book is worth the money spent. I definitely appreciate that there are TONS of screen prints, as well as she explains how to do things on a desktop, Macintosh, iPhone, and Android phone. ... show more

  • easy to understand
Like any technical manual., you need to go slow. I also ordered the Cricut for Newbies as author suggested this as a first. I think I can finally take the Cricut out of the closet, thanks to this book.
