  • "It's a USB hub" doesn't quite cover this one, more than meets the eye
Genuinely well thought-out product, with lots of smart design choices. It allows you to sit on your couch, and have a workspace to support a keyboard and mouse (or frankly anything else, like a textbook, coffee mug, cellphone with charger, etc.) hardwired to a computer with full speed USB3 ports. I admit when I first saw this product, I laughed. I've been using computers from couches for years and never found a perfect solution, so all the silly gamer-ish marketing didn't land well with me. It felt like a lot of hype with no real execution to back up it. Gosh was I wrong. This thing rocks. Sincerely, it does. No pressure on my legs, comfortable fabrics, cabled performance (no more annoying bluetooth hiccups). COLOR TESTED: CYCON² Fusion Grey TESTED WITH: GPD WIN 3 (via docking station), HAVIT mechanical keyboard, Logitech G700S. NerdyTech wide mousepad, meant as an accessory for this device. PRO: +works with any computer with USB3 support (basically everything on the market) +provides 6 USB ports to connect your devices: 2 on the desk top, and 4 more on the inside (2 on the left side, and 2 on the right side) +provides cable retention for your keyboard and mouse cables, easily adjusted and then locked in place. +includes a mousepad, though a full-width option is available from the manufacturer. (I recommend this.) +two cushions to support your arms and the board, tall enough for even my thick thighs. +long USB cable to connect to your computer (type-A for the computer to type-B for the hub) with a quick-disconnect, and with external power to handle the extra range without asking too much of your computer. +USB hub works without the added power cable if you're only using a keyboard and mouse. +fabric quality on cushions is great, some kind of microsuede. +cushions have elastic pouches for holding small items you might want to keep close but don't need on top of the work surface. +compatible with a standard USB3 extension cable, should the included cable not be sufficiently long. CON (very few, these are minor nitpicks and don't let them deter you): -Cable cutouts on the top surface, where you route your mouse and keyboard cables, may not be wide enough to pass through any ferrules (those thick cylinders around certain cables, helps with interference) permanently affixed to your cables. -mousepad could be slightly deeper, there's maybe a centimeter of space unused that could fit a bigger pad, but it works just fine. I like using low-sensitivity on my mice so a big pad works for me. -USB 3 cable would be perfect if it were 1-2 feet longer. Using an extension cable would be impractical for such a short addition, though that might be how I have to go. -Plastics in the board aren't the absolute highest quality or thickest, and time will tell how well they hold up. That said, I didn't witness any unreasonble flexing during use. If I were designing the product, I would have included some kind of metal or wood support rail(s) along the underside to really stiffen the whole assembly, due to its length. ... show more

  • Second version is great
I bought the CYCON2 version, not the original. From what I read of previous comments, it looks like the manufacturer actually read all the cons in those reviews and went down the line and fixed them all. 1) The hub is now powered and 6 ports (2 ports on each side of the inner pillar and 2 on the top in the middle above where the numpad would be on the keyboard). 2) The holes for cables are no longer round and too small for bigger keyboard connectors (like the ones that have 2 USB cables together). The new parallelogram shaped holes seem to have plenty of room to shove cable ends through. 3) The 2 back panels are held on by 1 large Philips screw in the center and 4 small magnets on the corners of each panel, so you unscrew the one screw with a wide flat head and then pull gently to remove the panel. When replacing the panel, just pop it in place and the magnets held it until you put the screw back in. The screw point and another protrusion on each side form a cable manager under each panel that you can wrap excess cable around for the mouse and keyboard. 4) The cable coming out of the board is 2 parts: an internal cable that plugs into the hub in the central inner pillar and can be routed to either side and ends just beyond a hole on the side of the board; and a very long cable with a custom connector that plugs into the first cable at the side of the board and has a USB A (the standard PC connector) on the other end. A power cable comes out the back of the USB connector and ends in a round power connector that the wall wart AC adapter plugs into. 5) The cushions are separate, so I only need one for the right side (left side of the board sits on the couch arm). I think the cushions are perfect sized and comfortable to rest my arm on. 6) Comes with a mouse pad with double sided tape on the back. I installed it on the right and it works great with my mouse. It can be installed on either side depending on your preference, or you can toss it and buy a gaming mouse mat to put on it. 7) There's plenty of room for a full sized keyboard and the mouse pad, though I bought a tenkeyless gaming keyboard to use with it. My keyboard has removeable cable with USB-C connector on the keyboard, so it is really easy to pop the connector off and remove the keyboard without messing with the cable management or back panels. I highly recommend getting a keyboard like that (mine is HyperX) and also a mouse with removeable cable if you don't use a wireless mouse; otherwise you need to keep the board more or less level wherever you store it to keep the keyboard/mouse from falling off or hanging by their cables. Overall, I initially thought it was pretty expensive for a lap desk, but after getting it and using it I am completely satisfied with it and don't regret the price at all. It is vastly superior to the lap desk I was using previously. If you are going to do PC gaming from a couch or la-z-boy, I would definitely recommend it. I would also recommend getting a keyboard and mouse with cables that also detach at the device to make storing everything easier. ... show more

  • Excellent lapboard solution for couch gaming
Over the pandemic friends got me into fortnite, and due to the GPU situation I do a lot of my play on the PS5. This allows me to play with a mouse and keyboard and be comfortable doing so. The lapboard is thoughtfully outfitted, with 6 internal usb ports, 2 on the outside, and cord management options. They include velcro if one is inclined to more securely attach a keyboard (I find this helpful for moving it around) and a ridiculously long cable. For what it is, it works very well. Cons from my POV are the price, cable, and something related to the powered USB hub, but I don't think that is on nerdytec. Price: I have to agree with others that its a lot for what this is. Its as good as one is going to get for couch gaming atm, it seems, but $180 is a lot for a couple of cushions and a flat surface for your keyboard and mouse that integrates a usb hub. Cable: Its thick and takes a lot of space. I think this was necessary for the length of the cable so its hard to fault them. If I were giving feedback on a gen2 it would be to do some kind of onboard battery: my own preference would probably be to use a wireless keyboard and mouse with this (purists probably want wired and I get it, but I think for the kinds of gaming done from a couch input lag isn't a realistic concern). USB Hub: only drawback I've noticed is that it can't charge my PS5 controller even plugged in. It charges other devices fine, so I'm guessing this is something unique to the PS5 controller and its power delivery needs. All in all I'm happy with this purchase. Its spendy but a great way to do kbd from the couch or a recliner! ... show more
