This robotics kit was a fun project to do with the kids. It was age appropriate and the variety of build options were nice when trying to figure out what we wanted to do. Getting the little pieces out of the plastic framing was a little annoying a times and some of the pieces didn't come off cleanly, requiring some extra filing to fit properly. It wasn't overly complicated or extremely challenging but we've done a lot of STEM style building, so this kit was fairly basic. It's good for what it is.     • Fun but could use better instructions
I ordered this STEM kit for my 12 yr old son and overall we were pretty happy with it. I'll just start out by saying, we are very familiar with Stem products and this is one of the easier kits I've seen to put together. Oftentimes, you'll get one that needs adult supervision, so it was nice that he was able to do most of the work on his own. Here's some of the things we liked: -The overall concept is really cool and includes 13 different designs for building with varying levels of difficulty. He's really interested in robotics so I love that he's being introduced to those concepts in conjunction with solar energy. -Building was pretty straightforward. The pieces were easy to remove with a pair of pliers and the flash didn't need to be filed in order to build. Connecting the electronics was easy too, but keep in mind that you'll need full sunlight for the solar panel once you get it hooked up. He finished his first design in the evening and had to wait until the next day to see the robot move around. Things that could be improved: -Poor instructions. My son said that the instructions are pretty vague, and in some diagrams, the part numbers and other text overlapped each other making it difficult to understand. He's used to reading directions on building kits (Legos and the like) so he eventually figured it out, but this could be difficult for kids who aren't as experienced with that sort of thing. -Poor quality parts for the boat designs. There were several designs that are meant to be used with water, but we found that the vinyl was impossible to fold. This caused a lot of frustration and we eventually gave up. Definitely could have used some pre-scoring to make those folds easier. It was a little bit of a bummer that those designs couldn't be used. Other than those few things, this kit still provided hours of fun and I would definitely recommend it! ... show more

    • I was disappointed by the quality.
With 4 injected molded boards that have tons of burs and you have to cut and clean to actually use... I was pretty disappointed by the result. I just look at it and think about how much work it is gonna be to actually build, and it won't even work that good when it is built.

This is a fabulous little set-keep in mind that it has tons of small parts. We got it for my 9 year old nephew for his birthday and he’s been building away with it. The instructions could be better but overall they’re ok. My nephew has built a couple of the ones in the instructions but he really loves being able to build his own things with this and see how to make them work. Great quality and well made ... show more

I think I was more interested in it than they were but once we finish putting it together and then see what can be done with it I think it’ll have more interest.     • Science, manipulatives, toys - what's not to like
Science related toys, such as these, are very important in enabling children to expand their knowledge and understanding in many areas. This goes far beyond just science, but incorporates math, physics and much more. Manipulatives, which give the hands-on experience of building multiple things, provides far more than a single toy ever could. This toy fits all of those requirements to a “T”. Girls and boys alike will love this, giving them the ability to to expand from the basic ideas provided in the instructions to adding in their own “enhancements”. I love this item and so does my niece. Note: I have been an Amazon customer for almost 20 years. I write all of my reviews to reflect my personal observations and opinions on a product.
