Our first Coolaroo experience was many years ago when we adopted a 1 year old Lab/Nuffie mix. We live on a lake, so needless to say she spent a lot of time in the water and even when dry, she shed a LOT. We bought an elevated Coolaroo dog bed plus an extra cover, because she also had massive feet/nails. She lived 11 years, used her Coolaroo daily, shared it with our Grand-toddlers, and there was never a hole or a rip of even discoloration. So we KNEW this shade would be a quality item. Over the years we have lost several large trees, and these were purchased for shading on the West and South sides of a dock (24x24) based gazebo (12x12). We expected, and got, great shading, but were amazed at the COOLING! It was immediate and huge! Having had a 28' sailboat for years, I was also a little concerned about wind gust that travel down the lake from the west. We found that when bottoms were elastic-anchored, the blinds did not collect enough wind to be an issue. The crank rollers are fast and easy to roll up at the end of the day. We needed a sunblock solution for our south facing gazebo. Installed three of the 8 x 6 blinds, sesame color. They have been up now for about a month and couldn’t be happier. Have made our gazebo much more livable as we can selectively lower one or multiple Of the blinds very easily to block the sun. They secure well on the lower end with a bungee attachment even when it is windy. As an additional benefit, they Block some of the winds which is important as we are up on a ridge and often have windy days. We also like the fact the weave is open enough you can see through the blinds when they are down and they do not completely block the surrounding view and make you feel closed in. When rolled up, they are completely out of the way and do not obstruct the view at all. In regards to mounting, you can see ours are on the inside against Cedar beams. Agree with the other reviews the brackets are poorly designed and difficult to access placing the screws unless you have a 4 inch extension driver for your drill or power screwdriver. I used one and was able to mount these without having to take apart the mounting hardware. I would recommend getting one of these extension drivers, they are easy to find at your local hardware store or Amazon. Makes the job much easier than disassembling the mounting brackets. For the price point, they seem reasonably durable. Ours are mounted on the interior side so The mounts and rolling mechanism are not exposed to direct sunlight or any of the elements other than temperature. I expect that they will last a reasonable amount of time. The price point was very good so even if they need a refresher replacement due to the fabric or mounts wearing in a few years I still think they’re well worth it . Perfect for our application, this is a 10 x 10 gazebo and we installed 3 blinds. ... show more

This is a superb sun shade! It raises and lowers smoothly and easily, provides very good shade, and the fabric is very durable. I am writing this review four years after installing them, which is a testament to their quality, surviving this long in the Texas sun. The reason for this review is to recommend a pre-installation step. We have two of these shades, and the gears that operate the shades both failed within days of each other. The fix was pretty easy - just search for Universal Mounting Brackets for Exterior Sun Shades, Crank-Operated, and you’ll find replacements. But, you can prevent the failure by disassembling the gear housings when they’re new and greasing the soft pot metal gear. On both of ours, that gear had frozen up in the housing, resulting in the much harder metal drive gear shearing off the softer driven gear teeth. Open the housing and grease the driven gear at both ends and you should be good for many years! ... show more
