I have used this backpack as a personal item twice during air travel trips and I was pleased both times. This bag is made of thick, quality material and is large enough to carry the travel essentials for a 3-5 day trip. You can pack the following with ease -- travel size toiletries (i.e. lotion, toothpaste, shower gel, perfume etc), several pairs of sandles or 1-2 pair of light weight shoes, and 3-4 outfits. Plus, the zippered pockets on the outside of the bag provide additional storage for flat items. The padded straps are very comfortable, even when the bag is filled to capacity, and the clips on the side help to compact the load. I recommend packing strategically if the bag is used as a personal item to ensure it doesn't become bulky. If used as a carry-on, pack as you please. I LOVE this backpack! I bought it to fit underneath the airplane seat in front of me because I couldn't use the overhead bin. It fits perfectly, even when completely full. I ordered a standard size bag in the peacock color. The bag came in two days as expected (which was awesome). The color is great and looks like the picture. I'm planning on using it for a work trip so I love the separate space for my laptop and other work essentials that I'll be bringing with me. The bag looks solid and of decent quality - especially for the price. Perfect for a trip where you are packing lightly although I'm sure I can fit a great deal of my stuff in this bag because it has a functional & practical design. The only downside is that when I started opening the pockets, I discovered some grit (almost like sand). I was hopeful that it was just tiny beads of plastic or something as the thought crossed my mind that this could have been previously used. I ignored that thought because I've never had that experience from ordering off Amazon and figured I was probably wrong. Unfortunately for me, after checking out all the interior pockets, I looked in the water bottle holder and it had a pair of dirty socks in it! 😭 I wish I could return it to get (hopefully) a new one, but I won't have enough time… 😫 I usually don't wait last minute to order in case of an issue like this but I couldn't decide between 3 other bags. I guess getting a new one would be wasteful as there really isn't anything wrong with it, but I was just disappointed when I found the dirty socks. Also keep in mind that when I received this bag it was plastic wrapped, so someone should have noticed the socks and cleaned it out before re-selling… Usually I wipe down all my stuff with a clorox wipe but tonight I will be taking some time to thoroughly disinfect each compartment & pocket. 😫 4/5 due to an unclean bag that had dirty socks in it. ... show more

We have six of these in our family. We love them and take them every time we travel. They have great space, tons of pockets, fit under the plane seat and comfortable to carry. I love the wet pocket I keep shoes in there so it keeps them separate from the clothes.

First backpack of my long life. It was perfect for recent travel as main luggage for 4 day trip. I Ipacked 2 pants, 3 tops, pajamas, underclothes and toiletries. The ease of opening like a suitcase was a plus in packing and getting things out. Many pockets on outside and a usable water bottle holder. I liked the buckles for added security on the sides of the pack. Nothing got wet in the rain either. I would have liked the large pocket inside to have had a zipper and if the outside zippers lined up to use a small luggage lock. BUT, that would never stop me from purchasing again. I am a small woman, older and this was just what I needed. I walked 45 miles in 3 days with this on my back without problem. The price was perfect too. ... show more

Needed this for a 3 day trip with flights in Spirit airlines. Was able to fit light clothes, small bathroom bag and small purse in the main compartment with my laptop and various chargers in the front pockets. The separate shoe compartment is a great option although they would honestly take up a lot of room if used. The padding on the back was great and there were no issues on the airline.
