THE GREAT MICROPHONE TEST & REVIEW I needed a microphone for skype calls and occasional voice & sound recording. I was able to test 11 microphones. Each microphone was set up with the right sensitivity specific to each microphone. The distance to each microphone (except 2 lavalier mics) was 17 inches. All microphones were set to use the cardioid pattern, except Fifine K690 that was set to use Stereo pattern (I found this way recordings sounded more natural). Then I made 2 tests: 1) I have great speakers (KRK Rokit 10 G3) and I was playing "Pink Floyd - Time" through my speakers and recording it with each microphone. 2) I was reading the same text and making some noise in my room (rolling on my chair, opening and closing my desk drawers, etc.) CONTENDERS Blue Yeti Nano Fifine K690 HyperX SoloCast Samson Go Mic PowerDeWise Lavalier Interview Set Moukey USB Mic FDuce GooseNeck Mic Cyber Acoustics USB Mic Aabsom Lavalier Mic Queena Steinbeck USB Mic Tkgou USB Mic M799B THE ABSOLUTE WINNER Fifine K690 - The recording sounds the most natural, highest sound quality, low noise level and high sensitivity. I love the stereo pattern, it gives volume and "breathing room" to the sound being recorded. 2ND & 3RD PLACES Blue Yeti Nano & HyperX SoloCast - these mics provided good sound quality and low noise. SPECIAL PRIZE Samson Go Mic - Natural sound (the main competitor to Fifine K690 natural-sound-wise), very small size, feels high quality, but the noise level is not the lowest (although still decent). BEST MICROPHONES IN $30 BUDGET Fduce GooseNeck Mic & Tkgou USB Mic M799B - great sound quality for the price. BEST VERY LOW BUDGET MIC Queena Steinbeck USB Mic - Great mic for $10. A NOTE ON LAVALIER MICROPHONES Although both lavalier microphones recorded voice well, they are not suitable to record external sounds, they are only suitable for voice recording. Since 2020 when I was teaching all online; I am now teaching both online and in person. With ten people in class sitting in a circle and people online who can't hear the in person people; this microphone has made all the difference. My dad got this mic for me because i have a gaming set up and no mic. It works very well, my friend said it was “good quality but sounded like i was in a big room” over a call.     • Good voice audio quality
I use it for recording my voice on slideshow recordings on a Windows 10 laptop. The device was detected and operated painlessly. Audio quality is great, but it will pick up ambient noise (not as bad as the laptop built-in mic, that is horrible for fans, keyboard, touchpad noise and echos). I will have to build a small sound booth to keep reflections off my office walls or apply acoustic foam to perpendicular surfaces. Still, my initial recordings were analyzed by a professional in my company and got the thumbs up, the small amout of background noise was easy for him to process out. I don't like that the pop screen flex arm cannot be easily removed, it gets in the way. I use the foam windscreen, so the pop screen seems redundant to me. I will see what I can do to remove the pop screen arm completely, I don't worry about voiding the warranty, but you might. Another thing I did was to rotate the mic in the suspension bands, so that it faces toward me from the front of the tripod, not the back (just grab the mic body and turn, no need to remove it from the holder). That keeps the tripod a little further back, the mic a little closer, but puts the flex arm out the front, which is why it gets in the way. After using it for a couple days, I began to see why some people get mics on swing arms, the tripod takes up desk space all the time. ... show more
