I was adding to what's remaining of my favorite cafe mugs that I have had for over 30 years. Originals were from one of the original coffee houses named Pannikin in San Diego before Starbucks exploded into the market. These are not quite the same, but are nostalgic, vintage mugs that evoke memories of diners and coffee shops. My originals had even thicker ceramic, and had the beautiful imperfections of handmade mugs. (If anybody knows where to purchase that type please send me a message). I especially like that they are made of thick, very heavy ceramic because once heated (or pre-heated), they hold the heat and keep the coffee warm for a long while. Those ubiquitous light weight ceramic mugs seem to chip very easily, and I'm certain these will not. Plus, I think these are the coffee mug equivalent of drinking a cocktail out of one of those heavy double old fashion crystal glasses....the weight seems to add to the experience. Form follows function. Simple. Nostalgic. Just what I like in a coffee mug. Two things to note. (1) They are not a bright white color, rather an off-white. It kinda adds to the authentic look of them. (2) They do have a depression on the bottom that will hold water when cleaned in a dishwasher. (If that is one of your many pet peeves, consider placing a valium or Xanax in the bottom of the mug prior to pouring coffee;-). I will be ordering more. ... show more

My husband and I bought this set of coffee cups as kind of a nostalgia reason. His parents and my parents used to drink out of similar coffee cups when we were growing up. So we went in search of some cups like they used to use. These cups are very nice. They are study, nice grip to the cup, will keep coffee warmer longer than a regular cup and is very eye appealing. That being said one of the 4 cups is cracked around the rim. We decided not to return as the other 3 cups are in perfect condition. If I could have requested just replacing the one cracked cup that would have been great, but I don't want to go to the hassle of returning them all. That being said my husband and I are enjoying using these cups and they bring back great memories of our parents. ... show more

This is my second set of these amazing diner mugs. Just like the old-fashioned ones in the corner coffee-shop - thick rimmed and heavy weight. Feels good in your hands and on your lips, and somehow makes my coffee taste better!! The handle could be slightly bigger but not a deal breaker.
