πŸš€ Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

Reviews highlight the motor as a solid, budget-friendly option for small watercraft enthusiasts looking for a reliable, if not powerful, propulsion system. Easy starts on the first or second pull, fuel efficiency, and practicality for calm waters are consistently praised. However, issues with speed expectations, difficulty reading oil levels, and some units arriving without necessary gear oil are noted drawbacks. Overall, satisfaction seems tied closely to expectations around performance and maintenance.

Pros

  • πŸš€ Starts easily, usually on the first or second pull
  • β›½ Fuel-efficient, providing extended range on a gallon of gas
  • πŸ”‡ Relatively quiet operation for a motor of its size
  • πŸ“¦ Compact and easy storage, with helpful diagrams for various positions
  • πŸ› οΈ Considered a reliable workhorse with minimal maintenance
  • 🎣 Suitable for trolling at low speeds, adding to its versatility

Cons

  • 🐒 Speed capabilities may not meet all users' expectations
  • πŸ›’οΈ Some units do not come with gear oil, requiring immediate attention before use
  • πŸ” Engine oil level can be difficult to read for some users
  • πŸ”„ No reverse gear; maneuvering requires physically turning the engine around

Should I Buy It?

If you're in the market for an affordable, reliable motor for small boats or kayaks and don't require high speeds, this could be a great purchase. It's well-suited for fishing, exploring, or simply enjoying time on the water at a leisurely pace. However, if your activities demand faster speeds or more power, you might want to consider other options.

  • Basic, simple outboard motor
Style: 2.6hp
The labels on the motor are difficult to read and somewhat ambiguous, but once I figured them out they won't be an issue when using the motor. It's pretty simple, basic and I've no doubt will be a reliable work-horse for my 10-foot inflatable raft for years to come.

  • Great little motor for my kayak
Style: 2.6hp
I have a large kayak - Nucanoe Unlimited - and this motor is nearly perfect for it. Pros: Starts up on first or second pull - very easy to start. Excellent with gas - I would guess you could go 15-20 miles with a gallon of gas. Fairly quiet. Easy to store - see the little diagram on the side for different storage positions. Easy enough to carry around. Fun. This thing is so fun to put around with, it just brings me joy. Great trolling at low speed. Cons: Thought it would go faster. Tops out at 5.8 Mph on the Nucanoe. But honestly, maybe faster than that would just get me into an unsafe situation on the Nucanoe. Engine RPM peaks at 50% throttle. Maybe my unit needs adjustment. Engine oil level hard to read - or maybe I'm just not used to it. DOES NOT COME WITH GEAR OIL IN LOWER UNIT - MAKE SURE YOU CHECK / ADD GEAR OIL. Overall I just love this thing even if it is not a speed demon. ... show more

  • Great/reliable/self contained little outboard motor
Style: 2.6hp
For the price point this motor is a great deal. If you need a small motor for a lake to get around, it's the best deal anywhere. Keep in mind it's a 2.6 and it's not fast or powerful by any means, but it does better than a trolling motor(most). I have a 2 seater plastic 10' pond prowler fishing boat(400-500lbs me in it) and I can cruise 3-5 mph) not bad at all for the price. It's for stroke, so far starts 1st pull every time! ... show more

  • Not sure really yet
Style: 2.6hp
We took it out only one time so far and it seemed to work good for a bit then it smoked and stopped. But we haven't been able to go back out yet. We started out slow like it said. Haven't had it up much fast.

  • Everything I expected
Style: 2.6hp
I tend to read the worst reviews first, then read the good reviews. A consistent theme in the poor reviews was hard to start especially the first time. One suggested over 50 pulls. This one started first time on the second pull. Second time I started it on the first pull. I will say the description was not clear about some features. It has a transmission but forward and neutral only, Reverse is accomplished by turning the engine around. Big warning the engine is shipped dry and the crankcase was, but there was oil in the lower end. Check don’t assume. ... show more

  • Good motor
Style: 2.6hp
I'm coming up on one year since purchase and thought I'd share my experience with this motor. Overall I'm extremely pleased with it. It did arrive with the choke cable not connected to the carbeurator but that was easily fixed. It still starts on the first pull 99% of the time. I use it nearly every weekend in both fresh and salt water. I'm only pushing a 12'-0" plastic "Intruder" Jon boat so it moves about 4.5 MPH with me a cooler and fishing gear. I've had to replace the water pump because it wasn't pumping water at high RPM's but I think i must have run it through sand by the looks of the old pump. It looked sand blasted. I keep my oil changed regularly, the foot oil changed and check my spark plug gap/condition. I also run it in a barrel of fresh water immediately after returning from salt water fishing. With this small amount of maintenance it's been great. ... show more

  • It worked for awhile
Style: 2.6hp
Update on the coleman 2.6 outboard I would not recommend this outboard! After brake in time which was some what of a problem engine flooded out and a lot of smoke then stalled. I went out on a small lake got straned and had to be towed in. Gas leaking out the air intake and fuel line leaks { poor hose clamps } I checked this once back to shore I was learry on buying this in the first place. save your money And buy a Tohatsu outboard mine run fine right out of the box after adding the motor oil. ... show more
