This shelf organizer is pretty inexpensive, so lower your expectations. I was able to assemble it by myself in about 15 minutes. I didn't use glue (as suggested) and thank goodness because I didn't follow instructions and was assembling it the opposite way. I had to unscrew halfway and start over. You have to follow the instructions and make sure the finished edges are facing up. One reviewer did not pay attention to the finished and raw edges, so it was mismatched. The final product was too heavy for me to place on my closet shelf, so I had to get help. So far, so good. All the items that are pictured in the organizer were in three piles, making is difficult to access. I was afraid that my closet was too small for this organizer, but pictures from other reviewers really helped me. I hope my review helps others, too. ... show more

For the price, coupled with what I'm using it for (top closet storage), this item is perfect. ASSEMBLY ISSUES Putting this thing together was a big mess. However, all of the assembly problems stemmed from human error. My main problem was not paying attention to the back of the pieces versus the front. I highly recommend that you carefully review the photos in the booklet before you start gluing or screwing things. I had several pieces turned around. It's not totally clear in the booklet, but it's fairly obvious once you're midway through and everything is screwed up. Once I figured this out, everything went smoothly. I can see that some other customers had the same issues as me from their photos. ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW I guess I'm used to the simplicity of Ikea assembly, because the complexity of this threw me for a loop! But, if I'm fair, that has more to do with my casual laziness than problems with ClosetMaid. In fact, I prefer this type of assembly. The end result is much more stable than anything I've bought from Ikea. Also, there are some thoughtful inclusions that I appreciate (the screw covers, wall mount, and specialized center screws for clean lines and extra stability). VALUE/DURABILITY Honestly, I was going to get three of these, but after reading the reviews, I became very concerned with the manufacturing and durability. I'm glad I ordered one though, because it's exactly what I wanted and expected. The boards are solid enough for my use. There weren't any issues with guide holes (except for human error). If you need a simple closet storage solution, this is a good choice. I'm going to order two more right now... ... show more

The quality is just OK, but it is commensurate with the price point, so overall I'm happy with the product. It is very thin melamine over thin particle board. Not obvious is that the backing for the upper smaller cubicles is only cardboard. There is no mistaking it for fine furniture! It is sturdy when assembled. Assembly is pretty straight forward. Two of my shelves were of different sizes but both were marked "B"...clearly an error. The solution is to match up all the parts to the descriptions first and don't trust the faint stamping on the rough edges. One caution is to be sure the wooden dowels are tapped in as far as possible. I tried to use an abundance of caution to not over torque the screws or tap too aggressively when inserting the wooden dowels. Two of my dowels were evidently not tapped in far enough and when I mated the the adjoining shelf the dowels poked through and cracked the melamine surface. A little glue and a clamp mostly fixed the cosmetic issue but it was an irritating start. ... show more

I've bought a few ClosetMaid products and assembled them over the last few days. There was a learning curve and I damaged a few of them through assembly error, but this was the last one for me to assemble and I did everything correctly just as the instructions told me to do. I have to give this a low amount of stars because the product cracked, not due to assembly error, but due to a bad product. Out of the several different products I ordered from ClosetMaid, this is was the most complicated one to assembled. The instructions call for glue, and require assembling in a very specific order. Some of the larger pieces of ClosetMaid products I purchased were way easier to assembled and could almost be done without any instructions at all. Not this one! On some of the other products the most difficult part on some was to nail the back on. Sometimes the nail would go sideways and split a piece of the white laminate out. This was due to the fact that the backing was too small and you would hammer too close to an edge of the board. Fortunately this product did not suffer from that issue. I was very happy it how it went together until I flipped it over and saw the top piece cracked down the entire top board from a screw. This is very lame, and I guess you get what you pay for. I've attached an image of where and how it cracked. I would recommend going with one of the other products as this one was the most difficult to assemble and after all the caution and effort to assemble it, it just cracked anyway. If you don't care about a cracked top or are willing to roll the dice, this will be the perfect product for you. ... show more
