    • Amazing mattress !!
Let me start off with a bit of background. I'm a relatively big guy (6'2" and 285 lbs), and have severe back issues.I had a tumor grow on my spinal cord, inside my spine which crushed my spinal cord resulting in paralysis from the chest down. Surgery removed the tumor and many functions returned. I can walk again (unsteady and not far). The surgery left me with 4 herniated disks and many completely numb areas, especially in the hips. I say this to explain that I have more back pain/issues than most can ever imagine. This mattress was unbelievably helpful. I used to wake up and turn side to side 4 to 6 times an hour. Sleeping flat on my back was impossible. Side sleeping would result in severe deep throbbing in my numb areas. Now I wake only 3 or 4 times a night. After the first night my morning pain level went down a lot and after a couple of weeks I am mostly pain free in the morning. I have never had any kind of foam mattress before. I have generally slept on traditional inner springs my 60+ years. I didn't know if I could manage the change in feel to a foam mattress. The wife and I went to many mattress stores and tried out the foam mattresses. I found that the spring and firmness was very important for me. I need enough firmness to help me turn over with my weakened lower body. I also found through research that because of my size it was suggested that i needed at least a 10-12" foam mattress with a thicker base core foam to firm up against my weight. This mattress seemed to meet all the suggestions and then some extra so I gave it a shot. I ordered the adjustable base and this mattress. When it arrived we assembled the base which only took about 30 minutes. Unpacked and unrolled the mattress. Amazing to watch the expansion. There was a very slight odor. Not strong at all and it mostly dissipated in a couple of hours and was gone the next day. I slept on the mattress after about 4 hours. It was very soft and I had trouble moving around. This worried me of course, but I realized that the foam needs a few weeks to stabilize so I would watch it. Over the course of the next day the bed became firmer. Over the next 2 days the bed became VERY firm. Still completely comfortable, but VERY firm. Much firmer than any inner spring I have had, but it retained it's soft feel pressure wise. Again I would wait and see. After 2 weeks the bed began to soften somewhat. Now after a month it has become near perfection for me. I sink in just enough to where I have a little resistance to turning over, but it is almost the same as my old pillow top. It gives great support to my back and body. I no longer wake to numb or tingling arms (I sleep on them under my head). No more sore shoulders or back pain. No more waking with my hips or butt throbbing from the pressure (nerve damage is a nightmare that is hard to explain or understand). I used to have to get up and walk around in the night to get things back in "perspective". That is a thing of the past. I only get up at night now for a bathroom break and right back to sleep. The first night I slept on the bed I had issues going to sleep. The different feel of a foam mattress seemed to agitate me. Once I fell asleep though it was a sound all night sleep. My first in years. Over the first week I would wake up very stiff and had some issues with soreness. I was trying to sleep in the flat position without the head raised 6 inches or so. Something I have not been able to do for over 20 years.This went away over a few days until I am now relatively pain free (for me anyway). I swear it had to do with my spine realigning from having proper support because I can sleep comfortably flat now though a slight 3 inch head raise makes it seem better. My wife and I have not slept in the same bed due to my constant tossing, turning and up and down, for many years. She has tried a few nights nights on the mattress to see how it does for her. Her king size is arriving tomorrow. She loved it as well and said she woke up with much less pain and slept sounder on it. OH, the free pillows are great. No numb ear or face tracks (I have to have CPAP as well since my diaphragm is affected also.) I am subject to night sweats and this mattress seems better than my old mattress. I don't wake up hot and drippy. Warm, yes, but not hot so I believe the cool gel works. Is this the perfect mattress for everyone? Probably not. Is it a great mattress? I would say yes. If you are a big person and worried about a foam mattress being firm enough to support you I would say go for this. Also, give it some time for the foam to stabilize. It really does take a couple of weeks.. If foam is new to you, wait to adapt to the different feel. It's a big change to your body memory, but it will be worth it in the end. Enough of my rambling. I just wanted to tell you my experience with this mattress since it has made a huge difference in my life. And no, I don't work for the company of even know anybody who does. I just recieved my 14" 1.0 mattress with pillows less than 2 hours ago. The box looked like it was through a battlefield but the plastic appeared in good shape. I helped the UPS drive bring it in the house being as i knew he was alone and its heavyish. I immediately brought it in bedroom. I carefully cut the plastic that held it wound up and immediately could hear and see it instantly raising. I wish i had a little time to manage it while it was flat but delt with the instant rise on the fly. I finish cutting the plastic off and measured the matress. The middle and side rose nearly 100% already. 13" and firm. The ends of the bed were crushed still at 7" and it felt super soft. Those measurements were less than 2 minutes of the plastic being off. *update 2 hours in* the middle is firm and perfect along with the sides. Still at 13" but condortable. The ends of the bed (feet and head) are still at 7" and soft. I am starting to be be concerned I got a defective bed but will wait the 72 hours before my next review. I would also like to note that I had no smell at all and i have a good sniffer. Also I need to also say that the mattress comes with a 25 year warranty. 10 years are a full warranty and 15 years are pro-rated. The warranty clearly states an indent must be more than 1.5" to be covered and must not have any damage at all. So i decided to make the step to protect it by purchasing a matress and pillow protector. *update 21 hours* After sleeping on the matress for a full 7 hours my wife and i agree we like it. We are a little stiff because went from a 12yr old over plush spring matress to a new firm matress. I also need to note that the ends of the bed have finally rose to the rest od the bed height of 13 inches. The ends od the bed are still soft but nowhere near what they were yesterday. My wife also noticed that the matress is literally 4" to the line longer and wide than our old matress. It makes no difference to me that the bed is 4"longer and wide than its suppose to be as it still fits and should fit any bed frame you wish because you have a lot of give in the matress as its foam. The smell is all gone from the matress and pillows and the pillows are our favorite part of the bed sadly. They are amazing. I will do another update on the morning of day 2. *update 44 hours* We love how firm yet supportive the bed is. Even though we are still a little sore we are not attributing it to defect. We both believe its aligning our bodies and it doesnt help we went to the gym the previous day. We are both out of shape but not over weight. I am 5'10" and weigh 148lbs and my wife is 4'11" and weigh 145lbs. We are sleeping all night with little disturbances regardless. The matress is still measuring at 13" but firm and supportive in the middle and the sides. The ends of the bed are measuring 13" as well but soft still. Little to no support is at the head and foot of the bed. My 2 year old already fell off thinking she was was safe. My 4 year old had the right thought after watching her fall off the bed. He says "its like quick sand like on Paw patrol". He couldn't be anymore right. Lol. It only does this on the outter 8-12" or so if the ends of the bed. We will see at the 72 hour mark. *update after night 3 and 79 hours later* We feel out bodies are quickly adjusting and becoming less sore with the more we sleep on it. The bed is still measuring at just over 13" deep including the cover. I don't know if this is normal or acceptable but we find it acceptable that its lacking almost 3/4". What caused us to drop the rating to a 4 stars was the ends of the bed. The ends of the is what has us concerned. The ends match the depth as the rest of the bed but it is not very supportive at all. If you sit on the end of the bed expect to sink endlessly and fall off the bed. Do not expect children to not fall off the bed. Trust me mine has because their just isnt any support. I pray no one else has this issue like we have but it's may not warrant a negative review but at least a side of caution. I am going to reach out to Amazon support to see if this is normal. I mean they offer Amazon tech support for it so might as well see what they say. I will end my review with this. Pillows are amazing. Bed is firm and does keep you cooler compared to foam mattresses. Becareful if you jump or flop on it. It does feel like your flopping onto a rock until you sink in lol. And my star rating would be 4.25 out of 5 because of the very soft ends. *update called Amazon and the rep said to send the bed back. So i am sending the bed back and repurchasing but figured might as well upgrade to the 2.0. Lets just say my wife is dissapointed to sleep on the pull out for a night instead of our bed but if something is wrong with it its better to get it addressed now than have a bigger problem with it later on. *update 40 mins after calling Amazon back* So when i first called Amazon the rep said that UPS could pick it up the next day. I said can you schedule a pick up for friday instead of monday. She said no and for me to call back when i want to send it back. I didnt want my wife to go without a bed and wanted to repurchase and recieve the new bed before sending it back. Come to find out that rep was wrong. I called back 20 mins after getting off the phone with thw first rep because my wife said to just do it and she will be fine with sleeping on the pull out mattress. So i called back as she said to but not before reordering a matress but upgraded to the 2.0 for the extra .5" of gel. Figured what the heck. Extra .5" of comfort for like $50 may be worth it. The rep that i got the second time said that i wasn't able to send the bed back and had to issue a refund. I was so discombubulated with they couldnt accept it back and had to issue a full refund. The rep must have thought i was having a stroke or something. I had thoughts that i should cancel the new mattess somehow and just keep the old one but couldn't live with that so i am still sticking with the new purchase. Now i have to decide what to do with this old matress and how. ... show more
