  • Awesome Machine
I’m so happy I came across this espresso machine. Not only was it a great value but It makes an absolutely awesome espresso. My wife loves cappuccino and the steamer is incredibly easy to use. Not only is it easy and quick to make coffee, but also easy to clean and maintain. Plus, it’s not big and bulky like other machines. It’s narrow and fits perfectly on the countertop. We will definitely gift the CHULUX to my friends and family this year. You will not be disappointed with this purchase. ... show more

  • Excellent compact espresso machine for beginner
As someone who haven't had any prior knowledge about making espresso, this little machine did a great job. It has all the needed accessories so I can start making espresso right away, and I only need to add espresso ground coffee. The manual did an excellent job with explaining all the steps for making espresso and prepping the machine. For the price range, it is quite affordable and comparable to other name brands on the market. ... show more

  • For the cost, it's about as good as you can expect.
The media could not be loaded. I got this because I have wanted an espresso machine, but wasn't sure if I could work it into my routine. It happens to be absolutely fine to add in to the coffee routine. It takes about the same amount of time as an AeroPress, so not bad on time. The setup is easy and the operation is pretty simple once you get used to things. I haven't overloaded it, but I suspect that's possible. My method for success is to use 15 grams (I drink a double, so I haven't checked what it'd take for a single... sorry!) of finely ground coffee and tamped (with my own tamper, since the one they give you is terrible), then covered with an espresso puck screen. I left it at the default settings, and it does a decent job. If you read the manual it tells you that you can adjust the length of the extraction to suit your needs (not able to change the pressure or temperature, only the time) but I haven't felt a need for that. I bought the puck screen with a WDT and the collar and dosing funnel, and a tamper (51mm is the right size for this). Great call. It makes cleanup of the group head easier, and the pours more consistent. Also: Their provided tamper is well and truly awful. I'm going to see if I can get a better portafilter, since the one they have is kinda... poor quality. It's the pressurized style, which I have heard isn't the greatest (but can't confirm yet. I'll update if/when I get one that fits/works). If you put in too few grounds it'll become a soupy mess. I'll probably do a few experiments to see what the optimal level is for me, but 15 grams is a great start for the double. That's what I use for my AeroPress, so it's a reasonable swap. As for the taste: It's not as complex and robust as you'd get from a professional. It's just not. I doubt there's any way to make it that good, either. It's pretty good though for what it is. I'd love to be proven wrong, and if I find a way to really make this shine - I'll update this review. I won't be holding my breath on that. The pressurized portafilter makes a "crema" that's a thick foam on the top. It's visually interesting, but I don't think it's really adding anything to the experience, thus why I'm looking for a different portafilter to see if I can get something a little better. As for the espresso itself: I'm using a natural/dry process single origin light roast bean from Sumatra and a lot of the brightness, and acidity comes through in the drink (which I really enjoy!) but the texture is a bit lacking. If you go to a professional, where they have commercial espresso machines you'll get a much thicker mouthfeel, and a bit stronger flavor. I think another main issue is that this thing just doesn't get as hot, as you can nearly drink the stuff right away. I can't drink hot stuff, as my mouth is sensitive, but I can pretty much drink this within 30 seconds to a minute after it's poured. At an establishment I need to wait about 2 minutes before going in. So bottom line: It's a bit thin, and weak but it's WAY cheaper than going out. It's not bad, at all. If you're someone who likes to experiment with different beans on a regular basis, and the shops near you don't have any variety in their espresso - This might be a good way to check things out and see what's out there. So long as you don't expect this to be the same as a barista would be producing with a La Marzocco (or a friend who has too much money and bought a La Marzocco Linea Mini/Micra for their home...) because it's just not going to deliver to that standard. It will produce a fairly tasty espresso though, if you put in the effort. ... show more

  • Machine had issues but customer service was spectacular!
When my machine arrived I was so excited! Unfortunately, the machine had a problem with overheating when it started to brew. I contacted the manufacturer and they gave me several things to try as well as asking for videos of the malfunction. Their engineering team watched the videos, suggested fixes and requested feedback. We did finally get it working correctly and there have been no further issues. The machine knows how much water to use and automatically adjusts it depending on whether you choose a single “shot” or a double. The frother produces a lot of steam for steamed milk or milk foam. My cappuccinos are easy to make and don’t cost a small fortune. There’s also no waiting in line! ... show more

  • Makes a great espresso
Very nice espresso machine. Very easy to use. Portafilter appears to me to be 51mm. Kit comes with single and double espresso cups for the portafilter. The cups use a notch system for insertion and removal into the portafilter -- i.e. there is a "bump" on the cup that you line up with a notch on the portafilter to insert and then you can twist the cup to lock it in place. To remove the cup, you have to twist the cup so that the bump lines back up with the notch -- the cup can then be lifted out. The settings are fairly simple -- a button to turn the device on and off, one button for a single espresso, another button for a double espresso, and a fourth button for steaming milk. The steamer works with a side control knob that has an on/off setting. Steamer produces steam without a lot of extra water. The steamer bar can also be used to product hot water (i.e. for tea or to add to your espresso) if you don't hit the steamer button. ... show more
