Description

Celestron has reinvented the manual telescope with the StarSense Explorer. This telescope uses patented sky recognition technology and your smartphone to analyze the sky and calculate its position in real time. Thanks to the app’s user-friendly interface and detailed tutorials, it’s like having your own personal tour guide of the night sky. Leave complicated star charts, imprecise planetarium apps, and computerized mounts behind. With the StarSense Explorer, locating objects has never been easier, faster, or more accurate. Within minutes, you’ll be navigating the sky with confidence. Place your phone in the unique StarSense dock and launch the app. After a simple, 2-minute alignment procedure, StarSense Explorer generates a list of celestial objects currently visible. Make a selection, and arrows appear on-screen, guiding you as you move the telescope. When the object is ready to view, the bullseye turns green. With a 80mm (approx. 3”) objective lens equipped with XLT optical coatings, this telescope has enough light gathering ability to deliver impressive views, especially when you bring it to a dark sky location. Enjoy sharp, bright views of Jupiter’s four Galilean moons, its cloud bands, Great Red Spot, the rings of Saturn, the trapezium in the Orion Nebula, and the beautiful Pleiades Open Star Cluster. An ultra-stable altazimuth mount with full-height tripod anchors the telescope. Slip clutches and geared slow-motion controls in both axes help you scan the sky smoothly, following objects with just a turn of the knobs. The Celestron StarSense Explorer works with iPhone 6 and up and most devices running Android 7.1.2 or later manufactured since 2016. For a complete compatibility list, visit celestron.com/sse

  • Excellent 1st telescope
Style: StarSense Explorer LT 80
This is a great first telescope for anyone interested in starting astronomy. It is light weight so you can travel and carry it easily. Easy to assemble with the manual and I am not that mechanically inclined. There are a few videos on YouTube of unboxing and assembly. It gives an excellent view of the moon. You can see the craters and mountains with the 25mm and 10mm eyepieces. As far as the planets Jupiter and Saturn you can see the moons of Jupiter very clear with the 25mm, but you won't be able to see the bands around Jupiter. It looks like a big bright star. But still very impressive. With the 10mm eyepiece you can somewhat make out the bands. Saturn you can see the ring. I would suggest getting another high powered eye piece with a wide field of view because of the low field of view the planets drift fairly fast because of the earth's rotation. Star clusters come in great! Pleiades and Caldwell 13 are beautiful! For a beginning star gazer or someone not wanting to spend a lot of money this is a wonderful first telescope. ... show more

  • Perfect Gift for Stargazers
Style: StarSense Explorer LT 80
I bought this telescope as a Christmas gift for my daughter, who has a passion for observing the moon and stars. She absolutely loves it! The telescope comes with a user-friendly app that aligns perfectly for viewing solar events, which has made her stargazing experiences even more exciting. Just a heads-up: it's designed for nighttime use only, so daytime viewing won't yield results. Overall, it's been a fantastic gift that has deepened her love for astronomy. ... show more

  • Great.
Style: StarSense Explorer LT 114
I think that overall the telescope is a great buy. It’s that for me the unlock code for the app didn’t work

  • Nice easy first telescope
Style: StarSense Explorer LT 114
The StarSense Explorer is great; use your smartphone to find the stars you seek. The app is easy to download and easy to use once the alignment is complete. The tripod is OK but not strong, the up down and side movement need some improvement. OK for beginners. The price is reasonable on what you get; you will outgrow it if the hobby continues to an immediate level. The view of the moon is excellent, and the other planet is a disc, as you would be expected. It is a good tool for learning about the night sky. ... show more

  • Do NOT buy used. Item comes beat up without a code for the app and customer service is a joke.
Style: StarSense Explorer LT 114
I purchased a used model of Celestron – StarSense Explorer LT 114AZ Smartphone App-Enabled Telescope. While I expected some knicks and scratches and would have kept the telescope as long as customer service would give me a code for the app because there was not a code in the box. The marketing for this product is all about how easy it is to use with the app. There seems to be no difference in the page they use to sell the new product and the used product, so any reasonable consumer would expect that an app code would be a part of the used purchase as well. WRONG! I contacted Celestron customer service and explained the situation. They responded in about 3 days explaining that the reason it didn't come with the app code was that it was used, but they said if I would send them photos of the telescope in my possesion they would send one out. (I guess the amazon invoice wasn't proof enough). I took the pictures they wanted and responded as soon as I saw the email. I expected that once I produced the pictures they asked for, that they would send a code. Wrong again. It has now been over a week since I sent the pictures and still I have received no response. At this point, it is not worth the headache to me to save the $40-50 off of buying the product new. Not to mention the new telescope would hopefully be in much better condition. So I guess my stargazing will have to wait while I find another brand and model of telescope to buy, because this one is getting packed back up and sent back to Amazon. I will NEVER purchase another product from Celestron again, you only get 1 chance to make a first impression, and Celestron has now lost that chance. If I were you, I would keep looking for another company for your astronomical needs. ... show more

  • Great first telescope, we were viewing the moon within 20 min of opening the box
Style: StarSense Explorer LT 114
We chose this as our first telescope. A major factor was to view the eclipse on April 8th, from Waco, TX (we have people from across the country joining us). The "Eclipsesafe Lense" was available for $20. I watched a pair of reviews, and the Setup guide from Celestron, and had no issues assembling, setting up, and using all the features of this telescope. Within 20 minutes, I had the app, and red dot aligned, and viewing the moon with my family. It was a great first experience, and we are looking forward to many stary nights, and joining our local Astronomical Society. For $200 delivered to my door, including the eclipse filter, the cost of entry was cheap. We hope to upgrade in a couple years, and give this to a friend, and draw them into the hobby. ... show more

  • The app needs improvement
Style: StarSense Explorer LT 80
Telescope is good quality. It comes with star app and the app is constantly struggling to connect and locate where we are. The Telescope itself has good lenses but if you are hoping for help to find planets or constellations this is not it.

  • Not for beginners
Style: StarSense Explorer LT 114
We were able to see the moon and craters. But to see the stars you have to really have it focus and know what your looking for.
