  • Easy to use.
I've accumulated several calculators of this type which I rarely use because I have to read the manual just to add 2+2 (I don't need the answer in radians). Some of them make RPN look like an adding machine. I sat down with this one, manual in hand and... I could use it without looking at the manual. To be sure, I'd probably have to look up some of the fancier stuff, but for the type of thing I use a calculator for it was great. Cube roots, raising things to weird powers, natural logs, all pretty easy. Powered right up in dim light, visible display (I did have my glasses on thinking I was going to have to read the manual). Good construction. For the really fancy stuff I'll use a computer, but even at the computer I'm often reaching for a calculator and from now on this will be the one. My ratings: just like school - A(5) - excels. B(4) - does a solid job, could do a little better C(3) - does the job, but barely D(2 or 1)) - either doesn't work, is cheaply made or has major issues. F(0) - flat out doesn't work or is actually dangerous. Vine reviews get the same scrutiny as products I paid for. ... show more

  • Amazing value in a calculator not costing a lot
I did receive this via the Vine program, and my thanks to the manufacturer/seller and Amazon for providing it! What an astounding calculator for this price. It's basically a clone of the Casio FX series, with even more features for any Casio that I've seen at this price. For a lot of people, this is perfect for back-to-school when a youngster needs a scientific calculator. For this price, you might as well buy this as a very excellent calculator, rather than a basic one you'll need to upgrade in between getting a graphic calculator. We don't have any children in current need of a calculator like this, but I like having a good one for myself, and this has such a nice display. And solar-powered too! I put it through a number of tests that all proved correct: log base 10 of 1000 equals 3, log base 9 of 81 equals 2, and what was really cool was the sine of 45 degrees reported as √2 over 2. My one quibble is the vertical spacing on the sin, cos, tan buttons, which won't detract from me giving a wholehearted 5 stars for a rating. I would have put the cos lettering slightly down, but only a millimeter and that's my OCD for you. I'd expect 99.9% of people wouldn't notice. ... show more

  • This calculator is so advanced it is scary
I am an engineer by trade and we can't live without our calculators. I am, however, old enough to remember starting off my trade using a slide rule. At the time of the moon launch those guys would have paid a million bucks for this computer when today you can buy this for only twenty. Even the HP calculator cost over $400 a few years later. I am amazed at this little calculator. Warning: Do NOT lose your User Manual, you will need it and the instructions are fairly decent. Now, the quality of the construction of this calculator is fairly low but it is perfect for students as well as professionals since if it breaks or gets lost, it is no big deal. They do include a hard cover slide protector to cover and protect the keypad. If you use that religiously, it should last years. By that time your basic cell phone watch will do all the same functions. ... show more

  • It's hard to find a scientific calculator with this many functions that has solar power
I ordered this calculator because it is always good to have a few scientific calculators around. I occasionally find myself needing to do some trigonometry at my workbench and a calculator like this is just the ticket. I really appreciate that it has a solar cell. Most scientific calculators this complex do not have solar power capability. It's such a relief to not have to worry about batteries, especially because so many things these days use proprietary batteries that are difficult and expensive to replace, if you can replace them at all. The calculator itself seems to work fine, although the interface is somewhat different from the T.I. calculators I am more familiar with. Different isn't always bad though, so I won't lower the rating because the interface is not what I am used to. Overall, this is a good calculator, and the solar capability make sit stand out. Five stars. ... show more

  • Not sure how needed Scientific Calculators are. But this is a good one.
I remember way back when I got my first TI scientific calculator. I had been out of school for a short time and it was my prized possession. So getting this new one and seeing how much improvement, I still love them. I do like math. It has taken a while to get this item. This thing is loaded with math and has a great book that explains it all, well as much as it can be. Do not lose the book as it will make this calculator work like the diamond it is. Read the first few pages to make sure it is reset. Then play away until you know what connects us all, MATH. The only thing they left out was the another way to charge the battery. They use a solar cell, which I do like. I am sure they could have put a USB somewhere. Lose 1 star for that, since even lights all can have USBs to charge the battery. ... show more

  • Nice device...more functions than 99.9% of us will ever need
I was looking for a scientific calculator just to do a few simple trig operations that I occasionally need to calculate and this works quite well for that and the price is phenominal considering all it is capable of doing. It easily outpaces my mathmatical needs. It has a decent size screen but basic math functions just use one of the three rows so the numbers are not very large. If basic math is all you do no doubt you'd be happier with a more basic device. The keypad seems to work well but there is no tactile touch to the keys. I like a tactile touch personally but haven't seen a hand calculator in years now that provides that. It does come with a nice cover and a small print, but very helpful, set of instructions. ... show more

Feels like a good old reliable Casio calculator. Has a similar format making it ideal for people who use those on a daily basis.
