  • Great starting set for any aspiring or who love to draw at any level.
This product is a quality product if you know how to sharpen a pencils using a simple technique or those who know how to sharpen a pencil by “trial and error”. The only downside is the kneaded eraser, que quality is bad not recommend to using it. Instead buy a Faber Castell Kneaded eraser those superb equivalent to the known brand from General’s or the STAEDTLER ones. The rest are all good 😊 love the product. I hope Castle 🏰 Art can improve the quality of the Kneaded eraser. I hope this review is helpful. Oh! Also the Castle Art tutorial is a nice addition. ... show more

  • Good set, includes the basics.
My son loves this set, and is really enamored of the kneaded eraser. I tested out a couple of the pencils, and I don't know how they compare to professional pencils, but they are better than your average yellow #2. I don't like the white eraser--it gave off a ton of eraser crumbs. My son claims it doesn't, and it's better than a typical pink eraser, but I disagree--it's as bad or worse, and made a mess. The kneaded eraser is wonderful, but you have to knead it (in case you're not already familiar with the type) to get rid of the graphite. When it's too black and leaves graphite rather than erases it, you know it's time for a new one. So far, it's nowhere near used up. It's small, but most kneaded erasers are. You can mold it into a pointed shape to get into tight spaces. We haven't tried the charcoals or the graphite sticks yet. The case is a little tough to open, but keeps the pencils safe. We paid $15 for the set, which is probably a decent price. At the time of this review (December), the price is jacked up to $20 for Christmas, which I think is too much. You can get a good set from Derwent, the Faber Castell grip set, or the Mitsubishi Hi Uni set for the $11 to 15 price range, plus buy a kneaded prismacolor eraser separately for $4-5. (Those sets won't have the charcoals or graphite sticks, but unless you're making a lot of shaded sketches, you probably won't need them, and those brands are very good quality.) If I had it to do over again, and it was for me, I'd probably buy the other sets mentioned in the previous paragraph, but my son had his heart set on this, and he loves it. Just don't pay over $15 for it. We had no trouble with pencil breakage, but then, we rarely do, as we use the Carl Angel-5 pencil sharpener (which we love to death--it really is the best sharpener ever). We only have tip breakage if we over-sharpen, even with cheap pencils. ... show more

  • Very nice drawing set
This is a very nice drawing set. I bought this on Black Friday at a good price and always enjoyed drawing and thought I’d pick it up again. The various pencils appear to be of good quality. Looking forward to using it.

  • Charcoal pencil sharpener too small for the pencils
In preparing to teach a landscape drawing class this summer to twenty students, I ordered and have now received five different drawing sets from Amazon, two of which are likely by the same or related companies because they are that similar. The "26 Piece Premium Drawing Set" by Castle Art Supplies would likely be in the running except for the fact that the diameter of the charcoal pencils (sent unsharpened because otherwise they'd probably arrive with their sharpened points broken off) is too large to fit into the plastic sharpener's entry point. I tried the metal sharpener and found it to be the same. The other set which is identical but costs $3.00 less carries the same plastic sharpener or facsimile, and that set's sharpener did fit their charcoal pencils and did an excellent job of it. The charcoal pencils in both sets seem to be the same, only with different company's names embossed on them, and appear to be good quality pencils. I checked the ends of the pencils to look at the placement of the charcoals in their wooden casings and noted that they were perfectly centered in the middle -- always a good sign, and, when I did sharpen the other set, the charcoal held tight -- didn't move in any way as to suggest inner breakage or anything. This set has passed my own rigid tests and has such a good variety of mediums as to warrant five stars from me. You'll just need to have a larger sharpener nearby for the charcoal pencils. Then again, I could have just gotten the bad-seed sharpener off the assembly line, and maybe other people will get all of what they paid for. My only other issue with the set is the wording used to describe the woodless 6B graphite pencil. Its description reads: "1 soft graphite sketching pencil." Most people I've encountered have been surprised that a woodless pencil even exists, but, in my own work, I decided some time ago to use only woodless pencils. They are wonderful to work with from the initial strokes on the paper all the way down to your signature line. They hold well, save on excessive graphite shavings, and allow for broad marks as well as sharp pointed ones due to the lack of a wood casing. So, this isn't just a "sketching" pencil; woodless pencils are for everything. ... show more

  • Great product for a tight budget
Excellent quality for beginners and those on a tighter budget. Not the greatest pencils, but they are worth more than their value. Customer service is excellent. I received a personal email when I made the purchase, and another after it arrived. I informed them one of the charcoal pencils kept breaking and they sent me an entire new set package without any extra cost. I advised them to ship them more securely. The first one had arrived in a box with two other items and a couple bubble things to secure things, but everything got knocked around. This resulted in the cores breaking. The second arrived in a bubble envelope with no knocking around. I can sharpen everything without breaks. The packaging is NOT storage. I can't believe how many people think it's storage. Honestly, it's just cute packaging. Nothing about it says it's a place to store anything. Get a proper pencil box. It comes with a kneaded eraser, and it's of great quality. The pencil sharpeners are top-of-the-line, but they're good quality. If the blade is dull you can easily get a new sharpener or even just blades. ... show more
