This cast iron pan handle is made from thick leather that has a rustic finish. Feels like the perfect fit for the rustic aspect of cooking with cast iron. The handle comes wrapped in a cloth drawstring pouch which would be nice for gifting as well. The design of the handle cover is smart; it has an overlapping area to allow for the leather to more tightly close around the pan handle to give a more secure grip. My one gripe is that the cover is lined with some sort of material on the inside...this actually started to smoke at one point while I was cooking. Not sure why there this material was added since the leather should have been sufficient for both heat protection and for grip? ... show more

    • very good for regular use. some concerns, but okay if you consider them.
Note that these tests were done with the cover on the entire time. work greats for regular/normal use. I used this on a lodge 12 inch cast iron skillet. at a medium high setting on a normal gas burner (setting of 4). The skillet was at 470 degrees F for 15 minutes and this worked perfectly. at max setting with a skillet temp of 560 degrees for 20 minutes, this still worked well. i could still move this bare handed from burner to burner without any discomfort (but you know it's hot). so for your typical uses. i think this will work great. on my power burner on max setting (this is a torture test) it charred on the open end and you certainly couldn't hold it, but it did protect my hand enough to know that it was REALLY HOT and to remove my hand so it wouldn't get burned. so i think that is a win. I was surprised concerned that the cover is not an totally enclosed piece. it's kind of a split/overlapping cover which i guess/think allows it to be used on larger handles. not sure if there a design advantage in regards to distributing/removal of heat. I would have the open end facing you so know that you won't be touching bare/hot iron. but i didn't have any issues. ... show more

This handle is adjustable which is very handy. I didn’t know that was an option! It’s thick leather and covers more handle space than my other ones. It’s a game changer on my casts. Would highly recommend this product to protect yourself against accidental burns.

If you use cast iron skillets, the one thing you have learned is that the handles get very hot. The cast iron handle by COOKLIFE is your remedy of burnt free hands! The handle is 100% leather (which smells great) and is hand stitched for durability. It is rated up to 500 degrees which should take care of all of your cooking needs. The felt inside liner is a nice additional touch for hand protection! In addition, at almost 6"X2", this handle fits all of my cast iron skillets and is well suited for protecting my large hand. I look forward to using the COOKLIFE leather handle for many years to come. I plan on ordering more for all of my cast iron skillets. My brother cooks with cast iron on our gas range. He uses a hot pad or dish towel to grab the handle, and I worry about being close to the flame. This solves it perfectly! I leave it on the pan all the time, so we'll probably just take the hanging thing off it. It fits perfectly for a very stable grip; it doesn't slip off or twist around the handle as you use the heavy pan. It is lined with a felt like material which is probably what gives it such a good grip, rather than the hard leather. We are very happy with it! ... show more

My fiancé is really into cooking with cast iron. He has a huge collection but uses these cheap hand covers for them. I came across this and figured I would order it. He absolutely loves it! It is VERY nice leather. It looks just like the picture. It is also self-adjustable. Meaning it is like split on the underneath part, so that when you slide it on a handle it adjusts to that size of handle. The leather is REALLY thick also. The handle is really nice, and if you or a loved one likes cooking with cast iron, you would enjoy using this handle cover. I highly recommend it.
