Nope you actually have to bend down and grab the little hook they made for you at the ankle and pull up on it . And it will slip on with ease. I purchased these as a gift for my daughter who has cerebral palsy. She has an over pronated gait, which most times causes her ankles to be swollen. These are light, easy to get off and on and provide the support she needs without giving up style. She usually wears a US size 8 1/2 ( Nike or Adidas), or a EU 39. I purchased the 8 which is labeled 38 and surprisingly it fit! She loves them and purchased them in other colors. I hope they make more in nude or natural colors.
