The Carhartt Legacy Women's Hybrid Convertible Backpack Tote Bag is a versatile bag built to function as a backpack or a tote bag. Switch easily between wearing as a backpack and wearing on the shoulder; the clever pull- through strap system allows the backpack to be converted on the fly. Constructed of a rugged fabric with Rain Defender durable water repellent, it has a large zippered main compartment with a padded laptop sleeve and two additional pockets. The Carhartt Legacy Women's Hybrid Convertible Backpack Tote Bag has two exterior side compartments for additional items and a secure zippered pocket for a cell phone or keys. This convertible tote bag features YKK zippers, metal hardware, triple-needle stitching, and the Carhartt logo patch. Measures 17h x 14.5w x 3.5d inches, and weighs 1.5 lbs. I bought the bag so that I could carry a laptop on an international trip in a bag that didn't look like it had a laptop in it. The capacity of the bag is small, though, so you have to plan ahead. Some people complained that the straps are annoying when you convert from cross-carry to tote to backpack, but I didn't find it a problem once I got the hang of it. This became my new every day bag. It’s a great size, I love the pockets for my water bottle. Nice inside pockets and divider. The fact that the inside is a light color so I can find things easily is a huge plus. The material is Carthartt strong and therefore I’m not as protective or worried about my bag getting dirty or hurt. The backpack feature can be a little tricky to maneuver around since the strap slides freely, but it’s worth the moment of awkwardness. ... show more

I really like the bag but I wish there was a way to secure the straps when you wear it like a backpack. The strap slides fully in one direction or the other when you put the backpack on, so you have to hold it kind of awkwardly to get it centered and slowly slide it over your shoulders. It’s a really nice looking and it’s great quality so I will probably keep using it for a while and maybe I will get used to it. I do love the convenience of having it slide into a messenger bag position quickly and easily. I like how versatile and well-made it is, so I think it’s worth it (for now at least) ... show more

this bag is everything i’ve been looking for! i can carry as a tote or wear it as a backpack and it doesn’t take up much space (i ride the train a lot) but it holds tons of stuff!! also very waterproof!! already got caught in a few storms and this bag held up! everything inside was dry!

This bag arrived on time and it is clearly super functional and rugged. However, my main complaint is that the side pockets, presumably for water bottles, really limit the functionality of the bag. With a water bottle placed on either side of the bag, because the pocket has no stretch, the space inside of the bag is used by the things in the side pockets. Once the side pockets are full-and you have to fill them first otherwise they are basically unusable, the inside space is halved. If you are a two bottle person (coffee and water, two kids etc) I doubt you could fit a laptop in the bag because filling the side pockets greatly impacts the shape and size of the interior. ... show more

I love how I’m able to carry it as a purse or a backpack if I want. I love the versatility. It’s very durable. The only thing I guess would be I wish it had more pockets. Maybe like a zippered pocket on the inside. That would be nice.

When I wear it as a school bag, the shoulder straps are uncomfortable because I can't keep my balance, but other than that, there are no problems. The design is good and it's waterproof, so I use it all the time. The best!
