  • Actual review of the 4K and Blu-ray versions of the movie
The movie looks beautiful and in my opinion the HDR looks absolutely incredible. Both versions looks great and one of the first things I always do is watch both versions of the movie to see if there is any actual difference. While that sounds odd I am still skeptical at times whether companies get lazy and actually make the “4K” transfer better depending on how the movie was actually filmed. I thought it was very clear that the the 4K Blu-ray looked better and I do think it was mostly because of the HDR. The Blu-ray did still look great though and I enjoyed watching both versions of the movie. The sound on both is also good but with sound it always feels like all new movies have good sound but your setup reflects how well your hear everything. (Via sound bar, speakers etc) Now not to go too in depth on any review or plot because I don’t want to give any spoilers and I think people should all watch this movie and make Up their own minds on it. I thought as a huge comic fan it was amazing to see Carol Danvers brought to the big screen and in my opinion the movie far surpassed any expectations I had. I went in expecting a decent movie and not much more but enjoyed it far more and depending on when you were born there is a massive amount of 1990’s nostalgia. It was also great to see one of the most powerful characters in all of Marvel Comics adapt to understanding her powers and I look forward to seeing what stories they pursue with her in the future. There are many incredible storylines from the comics that could be adapted into an excellent screenplay. Either way please watch for yourself and hopefully enjoy the movie which looks great and is a fun journey for any Marvel or comic fan alike! Also wanted to say I thought this movie had some great “side characters”, some of the best in any Marvel movie to date and a possible set up for a character in the future ... show more

  • Fantastic backstory
She is a secondary Avangers character, but without spoiling the plot, this is a great way to tell a backstory of how she came to be. Watch it twice, at least, to get all the subtleties

  • Decent Marvel movie, spectacular technical details and Atmos mix
Giving this movie 4 stars, that should reflect a split between the movie itself and the technical release. The movie is ok, the plot is a little simplistic and not overly well developed IMHO, The character of Captain Marvel is quite interesting and Brie Larson does a pretty good job with what she has been given, (I have no idea why the character is abandoned the way it is in Endgame but so be it) the 80s setting is pretty cool and Samuel L Jackson shows up with his usual swagger and helps carry the movie to a decent landing. Would give it 3 stars on its own because it is a decent Marvel movie, not its best by far but certainly not its worst. However the technical stuff is amazing. The HDR is top notch even without HDR10+ or Dolby Vision and really gets to shine during the space scenes (anything not on Earth) but as usual I am drawn to the Dolby Atmos sound mix the UHD version is released with. Like anything else Atmos the sound pops like no other mix can do (DTS:X is solid but personally I prefer the crispness of Atmos) and again the space scenes is very well mixed, it obviously drops off a bit during the more dialogue heavy parts of the movie but it remains solid throughout with little to no hot-spotting of the dialogue which to me is usually where the lossless mixes drop off a bit, this has almost none of that. A clear 5 star on the technical details of the release. ... show more

  • One of Marvel's best!
I really enjoyed this film. I've been a Marvel fan for most of my life, and know the back-stories of many of the characters (I'll admit to having owned first-printing editions of the original Fantastic Four, X-men, and Spider-Man until my mother decided to bin them without telling me...) so it was interesting to see how the writers integrated elements of the older stories into the current milieu of the MCU. The story itself is exceptional, with some great plot twists and excellent character interaction. The repartee between Carol and Fury is especially fun, and bringing Goose (originally known in the books as "Chewie" after another beloved character who probably needs no introduction) into the mix with a fairly critical role in the action was also a nice twist. Despite all the negative press among a certain set of socially very inept individuals, Brie Larson is a very believable and natural Carol; Jude Law had fun chewing the scenery as Yon-Rogg, and the supporting Star Force characters were also solid. I also appreciated the "coming of age" elements of the film, and nearly cheered out loud when Carol first declared her independence from the overly parental Supreme Intelligence and showed Yon-Rogg the door in terms of his thoughts about when she'd be "ready." We need more of these themes in film today as they have a positive impact on younger viewers, who need to understand the concept of breaking away from authority figures and finding their own way. Super fun film with some good plot lines and nicely developed characterization. Highly recommended. ... show more
