British Sterling has a metallic opening with citrus that levels off into sandalwood, musk, amber, and some other fresh notes. I always rated British Sterling just under English Leather and Canoe, but the more I wear it, the more I like it. This is the same scent it's been since it was introduced. It's a classic and I love it. Splash it on every morning after my shave and shower. For those of you comparing it to a bottle of cologne from the '70's and saying it's not the same.........NO KIDDING! If you have a bottle of cologne or perfume that's been sitting around for several years, not to mention several decades, it's NOT going to smell the same. Colognes and perfumes are mostly alcohol. Alcohol is the carrier that transports the fragrance to your skin. This is why when you put it on it evaporates and dries very quickly leaving behind only the fragrance. Over time the alcohol evaporates leaving the heavily concentrated essential oils that contain the fragrance. This makes the scent in the bottle very strong. At the same time, these essential oils begin to oxidize and the scent completely changes. Oxidized oil eventually becomes rancid. And this is why a 40 year old+ bottle of cologne smells completely different. It's not capable of sitting around that long. It goes bad. You wouldn't cook with a bottle of olive oil that's been sitting around for 40 years, would you? Talk about rancid!!! The very same principle applies to cologne and perfume. If you don't use it in a couple of years, toss it or buy smaller bottles that you can actually use up in that timeframe. ... show more

I have used this product for 50 years. I love the smell as it is not strong and overwhelming. I am disappointed that Dana changed something in the product after buying from Houbegant (sp). And it is hard to find!! Thankfully I found it on Amazon!!
