  • Works great for hunting. Worth getting!
Color: Black Pattern Name: Earmuffs
I’ve had tinnitus for a long time, but I didn’t realize how bad it was until I had children when I couldn’t hear them crying in the other room. It made me want to protect my hearing even while I was hunting. I bought these with the hopes that they would work for hunting and boy do they! I’ve worn them in a pouring rain and it sounds like I’m standing with no earplugs but then when I take a shot, there’s no ears ringing. I’ve worn them at several outdoor shooting ranges and it’s so nice to be able to hear what people are saying but not the crack of the guns going off. It is a strange sensation wearing them because you still hear the sound of the firearm but no crack of the sound barrier. You can also listen to music on them because they are Bluetooth to your phone and I’ve mowed the lawn with them, but I found I prefer earmuffs for doing that, but using these it was still pleasant enough. It’s just not what I prefer and they have a speaker which allows you to hear the ambient noise around you which means you can take a phone call with them. I can’t say that I recommend it, but it is doable, and it’s nice to not have to dig through all the layers of hunting gear to answer your phone because you can do it on the earpiece. I don’t know why you would but you could turn them off and just use them as regular earplugs. They do have the same rating as the foam ones so there is that if the battery were to die not that I’ve had that happen. I’ve hunted for well over eight hours in one day and not had them run out of batteries and it’s often cold were I hunt which can be a problem for battery powered devices but it hasn’t been for these. I’d recommend these to anyone, and have done so. I will definitely buy another pair if and when these finally go. ... show more

  • The Worst
Color: Black Pattern Name: Earmuffs
These are the worst ear set I brought for any reason. They die within 1 hour , they hurt my ears, and the sound sucks as well as the noise cancellation. I’d opt to return 2 days later If I hadn’t lost the case I would be refunded.

  • Great for phone calls, listening to music, audio books, mowing your grass, etc
Color: Black Pattern Name: Earmuffs
I enjoy using these throughout the day for phone calls, audio-books, music, and even mowing my yard to help block out the noisy lawn mower. They are comfortable in my ears, which I can't ever say for any other ear buds. I don't really use the ear buds themself for controlling the volume, pausing what I'm listening to, or any other controls that you can do with them - I control all of that with my phone instead, so I cannot speak to the ease of access with the controls. I also don't really use the feature to override the noise cancelling and be able to hear people talking still, because I haven't gone shooting with them yet. I have accidentally turned that feature on and I just put the ear buds back in the case to turn it off, and then I continued to use them without that feature. But I like these, and they are working great for what I use them for. I got the black ones because they were less expensive than the tan variety. I would have gotten whichever was less because color doesn't matter for my use. ... show more

  • Not really worth the price unfortunately
Color: Black Pattern Name: Earmuffs
I bought these to use at work in a loud welding shop. I’ve been using regular corded Bluetooth earbuds for years but decided to try something with more hearing protection. The Caldwell e-max had good reviews and some great YouTube demos so I made the purchase for around $100. They came in a nice charging case and seemed to be built well and of good quality. Unfortunately, I found them to be uncomfortable (I know everyone’s ears are different and maybe they just weren’t a good match for me). The control buttons on the side of the earplugs were not working very well at all for me. I’d usually have to keep tapping several times to turn off my music when I needed to talk to someone. I always ended up just taking the earplugs out to talk to someone because the controller button was just way to clumsy . I got the feeling that the Bluetooth technology and the electronics in general were just old and didn’t work smooth like newer and much cheaper earbuds. The part that really disappointed me the most was the fact that the Caldwell earplugs worked about the same as my cheap earbuds when it came to hearing protection and my cheap ones aren’t even rated for decibel reduction. The sound quality was pretty decent. Not much bass but nice and clear. I usually just listen to podcasts at work so these were just fine as far as sound quality is concerned. Pairing these things to my phone was a pretty clumsy ordeal……….every time! I think Caldwell is provably a good company that make quality products but maybe they just made a mistake making these outdated, awkward earplugs that don’t really protect you from a loud environment. Maybe they just work well in shooting applications where you just get quick loud transient gunshot sounds but they definitely didn’t work well for me in the metal shop with loads saws constantly buzzing all day. Overall, I thought the build quality was great so I forgive them : ) I may give Caldwell another try if I find another product of theirs that looks good. Ultimately, I returned them without hassle and bought a different brand of Bluetooth earplugs with a higher decibel rating. I’m very happy with so far. Anyway, I thought I’d leave this unflattering review to save someone else the hassle. Who knows, maybe I’m just really picky. I wish I could wear earmuff style hearing protection but they won’t fit under my welding helmet. ... show more

  • Decent for hearing protection, sucks for Bluetooth audio
Color: Black Pattern Name: Earmuffs
I ended up swapping the tips with something with better NRR rating. These work great with the passthrough feature at the range. Unfortunately, the audio connectivity is a bit weird. My phone detects each bud independently and cannot play audio through both. It's just one of the other. That kind of sucks if you want legit stereo sound for videos and music. Since I use these primarily at the range, it's not that big of a deal. These are 90% for hearing protection, 10% for audio/phone use. ... show more
