I have fished in Baja, Mexico for over 30 years. I have been trying to branch out from spinning and bait casting gear to include fly fishing. I've been looking at saltwater flies and either (a) they are are pain to tie my own, or (b) they are really expensive at the fly shop. I saw these JSHANMEI bucktail teasers and thought, “I bet those would work just as good as the fly shop flies for a fraction of the price.” I was correct. I selected the white/pink color scheme and, as you can see in my photos, they are actually tied quite nicely. The big resin head locks in all the bucktail and mylar as well as protecting the eyes. The hooks are offset and not stainless steel, but I can live with that for the price per unit ($1.60 each). You can also see that I took the liberty of dressing up a couple of the flies (as I call them) with a bit of permanent marker. It's a simple way to customize these flies to “match the hatch (bait)”. I drift fish for flounder most of the summer. We use a lot of Skinner rigs, but bucktails can take a beating bouncing on the bottom and they're expensive to replace. We'll use a top and bottom rig with minnows on standard sinkers too. I'm looking forward to trying these hooks on the lower of a top and bottom as a hybrid between the two rigs and as the teaser on a Skinner. They're a little on the smaller side, but I think they'll be fine. They seem to be tied well and strong. They're not circle hooks so check the regs on your fishing grounds and factor that accordingly. ... show more
