Description

The best selling Brinsea Eco Glow chick brooder for warming newly hatched chicks or ducklings (ASIN B008HVM56Q) has been redesigned to be even safer, more economical and easier to clean and joined by this larger model the Eco Glow Safety 1200. The new Eco Glow Safety 1200 is ideal for warming up to 35 newly hatched chicks or ducklings and suitable for any waterfowl or game-bird chicks. It is also ideal for classroom hatches. This chick warmer only uses 18 watts (less than 10% of the electricity of typical suspended poultry heat lamps) because the chicks are in contact with its warm under-surface as they would under the mother hen. The new Eco Glow Safety 1200 chick brooder uses a metal warming plate which evens out hot and cold spots which occur with plastic heat plates improving heat radiation. The new flared skirt design also retains more heat further reducing energy use. Unlike other chick heating plates The Brinsea Eco Glow brooders run at 12Volt from a mains transformer (supplied) – a much safer option than mains voltage chicken heating plates or heat lamps. Other features include easy height settings for a wide range of chick sizes thanks to the 4 adjustable legs, a generous 10 feet power lead for extended reach, an indicator light and a FREE clear cover to make cleaning as easy as possible. Replacement covers are available in a pack of 3 (ASIN B07PZH8MLZ)..

Directions: This product is for indoor use only and the room temperature should not drop below 50°F (10°C). To get the best use from this low power unit it is important to understand that there is no big margin of ‘spare’ heat and some precautions need to be taken. It is better to have the unit on a lower height setting. The chicks will move away from the EcoGlow if they are too warm. We recommend putting the brooder against one side of the brooder box so that the birds can only enter on the other side. This conserves warmth under the brooder but still allows birds to move freely out into the open as they wish. Another useful trick is to put the whole brooder box on a slab of 1” Styrofoam to reduce heat loss from the bottom. Because the heat from the black underside of the EcoGlow is largely radiant, measuring the temperature with a thermometer is of little value. Radiant heat passes through air without warming it. Only a solid object will absorb and be warmed by radiant heat. So a thermometer will register the air temperature but not the radiant heat and will usually show some 5 to 10°F lower than the effective temperature felt by the chicks. Always watch the behavior of the birds. They will naturally huddle together if they are cool. The more of them, the less external warmth they need.

  • Fabulous Heating Plate, Very Satisfied
Size: Up to 20 Chicks
My Subjective Advice The capacity for this product (20 chicks) should be considered for older chicks not day old chicks. This is fine for (20) 2-3 day-old chicks, but it's a bit small for (20) 2-3 week old chicks. The 35-capacity plate is best for 20 chicks that will grow. This product is better for 8-12 chicks (because they grow!). Day old chicks & ducklings need supplemental heat for about one month before the indoor temp (no lower than 75°F) is likely sufficient enough. Consider growth when buying the product. Review Purchased this for my new batch of chicks. I no longer have broody moms, so I needed something to keep them toasty until they sprout their feathers. It is a great heating plate. Reaches the perfect temperature to keep the chicks warm without burning them or making them too hot. I use a big ole' cardboard box with wheat straw bedding. There is room for the chicks to move about. It's important to ensure the chicks can leave from under the heating plate if they get a bit warm and return when they're cold. The plate is set up in the corner to trap heat on two sides while allowing entry on two sides. My chicks are doing quite well and very happy. I'll probably be buying the 35-chick heating plate soon. ... show more

  • Very simple and safe to use
Size: Up to 20 Chicks
We’re first time chicken owners and this product worked like a charm. We used it instead of a heat lamp and it kept our chicks plenty warm in a 55-65 degree F garage in the spring. It was just the right size for 6 growing Rhode Island reds and we kept raising it an inch or so per week. The chicks were adorable sticking their heads out by week 3 or 4, and really didn’t need it anymore around week 5 as temps were in 65-70 degree range in our garage by that point. Don’t throw out the cover, that is great for keeping it clean. The red light is also nice to let you know it’s actually working. Hard to know right away as it has to warm up. ... show more

  • Worry free heat for happy healthy chicks!
Size: Up to 20 Chicks
This little brooder is beloved by four batches of chicks we've used it on now. They all have stayed happy and safe under it with no concern for them burning themselves or overheating. And it uses a fraction of the energy our "big red" did previously!

  • Great for new chicks
Size: Up to 20 Chicks
Worked wonderfully and no fear to leave it on when not around as heat lamps can cause fires. Only issue is that they go all over the top once they are able to jump up. Even though there are two clear covers that come with it to make cleaning easier, didn’t really love the cleanup. But that being said, it is better to use the covers as you can take one outside and replace it with other so you can hose it off outside. The adjustable height is a plus. Works great no issues really. ... show more

  • Effective while it worked, broke within two years, but they said they're going to replace it.
Size: Up to 35 Chicks
I purchased this product in September of 2022. In July 2024 I found that it was breaking because the wire frayed where it goes into the brooder. I had some back-and-forth with Brinsea but they said they're willing to replace it. If so, then my four-star rating will be accurate. It's a great product when it works: the chicks seem to love it, it costs less and is safer than a heat lamp, and I think it's good for the birds to get warmth without giving up day/night cycles. They outgrow it pretty quickly so if you buy it thinking it's for 35 chicks, it'll do well on day one but feel inadequate as you stretch into weeks 2-4. I'm not sure if that's okay or if a second brooder would be a good idea; sometimes I've used a heat lamp and sometimes I've not done anything and I don't have results that are reliable enough to share. Brinsea is one of the few vendors in this space who aren't dropshipping their product; I'm not sure if the others have the warranty. If they stand behind their product that's definitely a strong plus. The spot that broke is very much in contact with chicks on a regular basis; they're going to screw with the cord. So if you get this, maybe make the effort to shield it or place it in a spot where chicks are less likely to peck it or step on it. ... show more

  • Worked perfect for my new chicks
Size: Up to 20 Chicks
This was a great choice for our new little flock. We had 6 chicks, all laying breeds, in with the eco glow. We also had 6 meat/dual purpose birds in a separate box with a traditional heat lamp. The chicks in with the eco glow seemed more adjusted and did well with the surprise cold nights we had in late spring when they were all about 12 weeks old and fully feathered. We put a heat lamp in the coop those nights and the dual purpose birds were tightly gathered under it while the chicks raised with this heater roosted as normal. It withstood the chicks using it as a playground, was easy clean, and overall a great choice. I don’t know if it would have been sturdy enough for our dual purpose birds due to theI extremely quick growth. ... show more

  • Peace of Mind and the Chicks Love It!
Size: Up to 20 Chicks
We had three Araucanas/Ameraucanas and one Buff Orpington in a brooder (Rubbermaid tote) with the 250W red heat lamp recommended by the feed store where we bought our chicks. By the second day, however, the Buff Orpington came down with pasty butt. We tried to save her, but she went pretty quickly. So, I added a thermometer to the box, but it was still difficult to regulate the temperature. Plus, I did not sleep well knowing that the lamp posed a serious fire risk to the chicks as well as our house. I kept my door open at night so that I could keep track of the red glow coming from the kitchen. I did not want to lose another chick! Fast forward a week, when we brought home two more Buff Orpingtons. We put them into the box with the others and noticed that the chicks were panting, even though the temperature at the bottom of the brooder was about 90-95 degrees Fahrenheit. I went online and found Raising Happy Chickens, where they talked about the Brinsea radiant heaters. There were none available in my local area, so I ordered one here. I cannot describe the calm feeling I have about our little flock now. They are happy and healthy (not one sign of pasty butt in the bunch), and they seem to really love going under the heater to stay warm and safe. It is like a mother hen. And, it comes with a three year warranty. The plastic cover is great--makes it super easy to clean. I could not be happier with this purchase! ... show more
