  • Very pretty, with a few issues
First the pros: This paper is gorgeous. I painted it a pale tan and then patted some white gloss on the highlights and got incredible depth of design. It looks like the wall of a whitewashed Italian villa. (color has to be patted on with a hard surface if you only want to hit the highlights, not a sponge; I used a grout float). I could not possibly be happier with how it looks I love the fact that you can use spackling to repair any flaws, tears, gaps between the sheets, etc, and just paint over it. Great for amateur paper hangers. Con: The glue doesn't work. It's not strong enough to hold the paper in place while you are laying it down, which is really bad for amateurs (my professional wasn't too happy about it either), and it keeps coming off the wall after it has been applied. When the paper dried, the edges and large sections in the middle were not attached. I would just plan to use glue with this paper, and not trust what's on it at all. And..this is the big con..the design is really fragile. That's the main reason I've only given it three stars. The raised part is a soft foam applied to the surface of the paper. If you press on it with your hand while working, it may flatten out. If you scrape it with a fingernail, it will tear. Expect to have to baby this stuff as you apply it, or you may have to fill in a lot of dings and scratches. If you can get past all that the stuff is absolutely beautiful, and the paint did toughen it up a bit, but I would definitely not use this paper anywhere that you expected something to rub against it. ... show more

  • Looks pretty cool.
Looks pretty cool. I installed this on the ceiling of our powder room- which had a terribly lumpy ceiling. It is tricky to wallpaper a ceiling- and this wallpaper is prone to tearing on its own weight. Fortunately, our bathroom is only 50" wide, so the runs weren't too long. Still, it did tear on two pieces due to the ceiling light cutout. I was able to fudge it together and the tears aren't overly visible. Even less visible once painted. - Which brings us to PAINT. Be careful. Painting this stuff re-wets it and its apt to start coming down again. The seams get loose and gooey. If you overwork the paint, you'll rip up your wallpaper. That said, the effect is cool. Looks a bit like a painted tin ceiling- definitely old-fashioned, victorian. The squares in the pattern are smaller than I would've liked. This would be cool as a trim accent on the ceiling between astragal molding runs (if you do ceiling molding). Lots of interesting possible uses for it- but don't use it to wallpaper a large area. You'll go crazy between the ripping, the soggy seams, and how small the pattern is. ... show more

  • Perfect perfect perfect!
We had some damage to our bathroom ceiling, for some reason after it had been repaired it still looked uneven. Instead of spraying with orange peel I made the suggestion to my husband about this wallpaper and it turned out great. Tip order an extra roll for mistakes or just in case the pattern is off a bit. Tip #2 you will also need to purchase wallpaper adhesive. Tip #3 DO NOT WET PAPER too much it does tear. If you are painting I would suggest high or semi gloss paint something that is easy to wipe off. You can also cut paper In squares to get perfect placement. I wanted to paint ceiling paper silver but we settled with bone creamy white. Perfection! ... show more

  • Easy to use if you follow these instructions!
Very easy to use for first time wallpaper-ers! We followed the advice of the other reviewers and did NOT submerge the wallpaper in water before application. It does get very delicate if it gets too saturated. We used a spray bottle to spray the back, then applied to the wall, sprayed the wallpaper directly with water while we worked out air bubbles, and used wallpaper adhesive to marry the seams. It was quick, easy to match up the pattern, and looks awesome! I painted it with a white high-hide latex interior paint from Valspar. Would recommend!! ... show more

  • Hard to cut while wet. But beautiful when finished!
This paper seems to adhere well to the wall. The biggest complaint is cutting it once in place. Even brand new blands shredded my edges. Also while drying it looks two toned, but dries completely white. (The two tone was really pretty though!) I plan to paint tomorrow.

  • Cost effective use!
Used this product on our ceiling! My wife wanted a tin ceiling in the kitchen (350 sq ft) after pricing tin ceiling tiles aprox $2,200.00 I looked for other means to get the job done. At a big box store we we came upon wall paper that resembled the tile effect we were looking for, and it was paintable! I thought I could find a better deal online, and that's when I turned to Amazon and found the Brewster wallpaper. I started the project with a 7 foot section, soon found out even with my wife's help it would be difficult to accomplish, so I cut the length down to four foot sections and manage the job on my own. I used an adhesive calk to cover up the seams that didn't take, and painted two coats of metalic aged copper paint. Looks great!!! ... show more

  • Easy to work with textured wallpaper.
I put this in our basement bathroom, painted in dark gold with cream highlights. It looks very elegant. I have plenty left over (my husband second guessed me) I'm going to put in the hallway and do a completely different treatment. These paintable wallpapers are great for covering sins (didn't have to sand joints to the same quality I would have if I had just painted). They are easy to work with and the pattern lines up well. I used a plastic rounded corner trim and it stuck well to it and rounded the corner nicely. ... show more

  • great investment
I used Brewster paintable wallpaper for a bad dry wall job i had in my hallway. I bought wallpaper glue to use instead of water and the final look is amazing! when it was drying I was a little uneasy because it had tons of bubbles that I could not get out however, once dried it flattened itself out. I was able to paint over it to match my walls and everything. by far, worth the money and time you spend ... show more
