Bont quickly became the world's largest producer of ice speed skates and then branched out into inline speed skates, quad speed skates, roller derby skates, and long track speed skates. Bont was the first footwear manufacturer to use exotic material like fiberglass in 1974, Kevlar in 1986 and Carbon Fiber in 1989, and the first to use heat moldable resins and thermoplastics. Bont was also the first company to use adjustable ice blades and remains the world's largest producer of speed skates and custom speed skates. Read more

  • Good Performance, But Buyer Beware...
The media could not be loaded. I purchased these bearings to replace the default bearings on a pair of children's skates, as the default bearings barely rolled on their own. While the performance is about on-par with with a set of ABEC 5 bearings, what disappointed me was the fact that one of the Amazon product images was extremely misleading. As you can see from the images (and even the first Amazon product image) these are SEALED bearings, meaning the bearing shield is NOT removable, which means that once they are dirty and underperforming, they can't be easily opened and cleaned. I went with these over a set of Rollerbones, 1). for the Bont name, and 2). because I thought they were serviceable, which would have put them on par with the Rollerbones. Unfortunately, that's not the case. As for ease of use and installation, they came pre-greased and aside from the subpar quality of the skate itself, they installed extremely easily. Performance was right where I'd expect it to fall, as I did a few (unscientific) "scientific" performance tests.: I installed four sets of bearings on one same wheel, installed it on the same axel and then did a timed test three times to measure spin time, applying as much equal force as I could to each spin. Below are the results, but note that the below results are using original bearings from a NEW pair of skates of the same model, and not the ones in the video, as the video was simply to demonstrate the dramatic difference between the older (cheaper) default bearings and the Bont ABEC 5. Round 1: Original Bearings Test1 - 1.59s Test2 - 1.46s Test3 - 1.32s Round 2: Bont ABEC 5 Test1 - 10.31s Test2 - 11.14s Test3 - 10.51s Round 3: Atom Bionic ABEC 7 Test1 - 16.85 Test2 - 17.04 Test3 - 17.26 Round 4: Bones Reds Test1 - 47.36s Test2 - 47.77s Test3 - 49.43s So stepping up from the default bearings to the ABEC 5 bearings gave quite a significant jump in performance, without being excessive, as the Bones would have been overkill for a ~$40 pair of children's skates. Overall, I can't complain about performance, but only time will tell where durability will stand, especially since these skates will be used primarily in outdoor situations. The fact that I can't service/clean these bearings just kills the value, unfortunately and I would recommend going with a brand that enables you to remove the shield in order to extend the life of the bearing. ... show more

  • Exactly as they should be
Ordering these off Amazon I was worried that I would be getting a knock-off or not entirely as advertised product, as often happens with so many different vendors online. I was pleasantly surprised to see that these are exactly what the posting says they are. I have the same bearings in my Bont Ballistic wheels and compared for good measure and they're the same. I'm ordering a couple of more boxes. They're a solid deal compared to what you'll pay in a skate shop and the bearings are superior to what will come on a lot of the lower-midline skates a lot of folks are buying now. One note of caution: these aren't solid straight through. The metal part around the center 'spinner' (for lack of a better word) is a softer metal that isn't solid. Your basic Y skate tool can damage (dent) them very easily and while they'll still work, they will make a little dragging sound. My bont skates came with a tool specifically for the wheels that isn't as deep as the traditional Y skate tool so you're not as likely to damage the bearing with it. If you need to use the Y tool, just be careful not to put the tool so far down on the nut that the tool can push into the bearing, that's how you'll end up denting it. I ruined a number of the ones that came with my skates that way. ... show more

  • Pre-opened package
The box came already opened and the bearings were leaking oil. Their rotation did still win out over the Rollerbones, so I kept them, but will order different bearings next time.
