  • The bar is not strong enough and can cause serious injury
There are many reviews here about the bar snapping and causing injury. The severity of the injury will depend on what exercise you are doing. I was squatting when the bar snapped and because the metal is paper-thin it cut like a blade all around my neck leaving me needing stitches. They advertise you can use up to 3 bands on each side and each band can be shortened to the equivalent of 70-80lbs each. That's close to 500lb which I was nowhere near and the metal still split like can of coke under pressure. The issues with the bar as I mentioned are the metal being too thin to withstand any pressure and the screw and bolt that hold the two pieces together being way too short. With a stronger/longer core, even if thin metal had split it still would have not separated and caused injury. Squatting puts the most pressure on the bar as it is usually the heavier lift. If despite this review and all the others that have had a similar experience you decide to get it anyway - please don't squat, deadlift or do shoulder press. ... show more

  • Can't beat it for strength training at home.
I've been weightlifting for many years using heavy free weights doing high intensity training (HIT). I have learned first hand resistance training is different than moving free weights, but as I age and the injuries are piling up the doctor said it was time to move away from heavy free weights and my lifestyle has changed that going to a gym several days a week isn't doable (live in the country far from gyms and started a farm with daily strenuous activity). Therefore, I gave this a try and using HIT training I'm keeping up strength as a supplement to daily chores. Doubtful this will pack on mass, but I can see it helps maintain strength over time. If I don't use resistance training for a few weeks my strength will lessen, but it builds up once I begin resistance training again. First off, the concept of this portable gym is great. It opens/folds down quickly. The plastic is heavy duty and not flimsy. The metal tie downs are robust and are holding up well. It is easy to clip the bands on and off of the carabiners, but they will snag occasionally due to the design of a carabiner. The bar that comes with it is heavy duty and welded on the ends. I was surprised how well made the bar is. The various handles are made well, but I think over time the single handles will probably snap. That is OK, as items break after heavy and repetitive use. Part of the reason I mentioned I weight lifted heavily in the past was for two reasons. One, the single bands don't provide much resistance. Several exercises (shrugs/deadlifts) I've already bumped up to the maximum six bands (three per side as stated by the company and have them weaved through almost every anchor point ('51234" combos) I can do with three bands per side and this is time consuming and awkward. However, it gets the job done and I can feel I'm 'strength training'. The cloth on the bands is bunched up and will snag on the tie downs through fluid motions and that is awkward. The ends of the bands will also snag on the tie downs. Two, I've done every exercise I want to do with the BodyBoss and am satisfied it gets the job done, except for one.... bench press. Looks as if I need to buy a separate portable bench in order to get ANY resistance for benching. As lying on the floor or a small cardio stepper isn't enough to activate any type of resistance for me. As for other exercises I have yet to try, I can imagine how they would work and am satisfied. Bottom line, this is a great home gym they put together for someone like me who wants to/needs to strength train. It won't replace heavy free weight training for someone who needs to move heavy iron, but is compact, portable, affordable and allows me to workout at home as it fits my lifestyle and..... the customer service is attentive, responds and very friendly. With improvements over time and stronger resistance bands this device will only get better. ... show more

  • Like most, I was a little hesitant in ordering ...
Like most, I was a little hesitant in ordering but I'm so glad I did. Was paying $80 a month for a great gym but money is tight and I couldn't do it anymore. I did a lot of research on all the at home gyms and measured space in my tiny apartment and most either cost a fortune, wouldn't fit or were missing something. I just did my first workout and good gosh, I'm in love. You think, eh bands, but man oh man, the resistance is no joke. I'm so happy with this purchase. There was a little shipping mishap but the BodyBoss team quickly resolved it and then some. They are super nice and there to support you 100%. You don't get that often. In short, so stoked! ... show more

  • MAKE YOUR OWN FOR UNDER $50
Look at what they charge you $200 for. Go to a home improvement store and buy a piece of 3/4" plywood and a 1" or bigger dowel rod. Next buy some resistance bands at another store or off amazon. After that it's just cutting holes in plywood and paint if you want to get fancy. Hell you could save more money by skipping the base and standing on the resistance bands like they are intended to be. ... show more

  • Disappointing in many ways
To obtain value from Body Boss it is necessary to access their videos, most of which are amateurish like home movies and which provide no clear direction for various levels of training. Just a hodgepodge of exercises. The links they provide to their website and to my individual account rarely worked. For over a month I was promised it was being worked on by some mysterious, I believe non-existent "development team" which was going to call me, and which never happened. What I received were unkept promises and a dialogue consisting of apologies and we're working on it. Even though they gave me a free membership for all the issues I was having, I learned that to have one on one help, you have to pay their trainers above and beyond their "Plus Membership." Using the product itself is involved and time-consuming, though it should be simple. Save your money and look elsewhere for an all in one gym. ... show more

  • This is a great way to easy back into it
Arrived one day early. I use to be a gym rat, but now that I've gotten older and have less time to go to the gym. I purchased this to use at home I had to buy extra band, because I still retained some of my strength over the years. This is a great way to easy back into it. I've only had this for about 3 days and I can feel some soreness. You kind of have to be creative (or go online and look up things you can do) you only get out of it , what you put into it. The only downside is some times I need to put something heavy on it to keep it from lifting off the ground when I'm doing exercise that don't require me to have both feet on the pad (I just put dumbbells on it) ... show more
