This review is for the Linkloos Boat Kayak Anchor Kit (40ft Rope) - Orange I've been kayaking for years, and it has always been a bit of a frustrating experience when you want to pause for a break (lunch, snack, rest) and end up floating away with the current. Typically, I have to search for a small alcove or something to move into where I can hang out without floating off. This is especially true when kayaking with another person, as we often rely on each other to retrieve things out of the backs of our 14' kayaks. I also have a small fishing kayak and it's nearly impossible to fish from when you have to constantly readjust. This anchor is EXACTLY what I needed. At just 3.5lbs, it feels heavy but really does not add that much weight to your boat. In fact, it will fit behind my seat. I love that it's coated carbon steel that should not rust quickly. The design of the anchor is like a grappling hook so it can easily fold up but then open to snag the bottom when you wish to stay put. The anchor kit comes with everything you need, too -- a 40ft rope for both deep and shallow water use, as well as a stainless steel fixed snap hook and PP buoy. I can't think of anywhere I kayak where this will not do the trick. This anchor is really well-designed for any small craft use. Finally, I will say that I RARELY kayak in the ocean. However, the ONLY claim for this anchor that I question (or am curious about) is the 'Anti-shark Orange' claim. Night use? Sure. But due to its rarity underwater, the color orange actually acts as a signal to a shark. It contrasts sharply with the surrounding environment, making it easy for sharks to spot. From an online article, "Their attraction to orange isn’t the color but its standout nature against the typical aquatic backdrop. While many colors fade or morph with depth, orange remains relatively consistent. It retains visibility even as one descends further. This constant visibility makes objects or individuals sporting the color particularly noticeable." In other words -- it could actually ATTRACT sharks. But since I kayak mostly in fresh water lakes and rivers, orange is great and this kayak will absolutely make my adventures more enjoyable. AND it's a great value. Highly recommended! ... show more

    • Good for Small Boat anchoring.

Most of my boating is on a stump filled lake bottom. Mushroom anchor's minimize the anchor fouling amongst the stumps. This is rated as a small boat anchor, kayaks, rowboats, Jet skis and such. Although storage of an 8lb Mushroom on some of these may be a problem. The manufacturer uses the same advertising for both the Mushroom and the folding fluke anchor which will take up less storage room. This review concerns the Mushroom anchor. On a larger boat, say 16 to 24 this anchor is only ok for temporary anchoring in flat water with little or no wind. It simply will not hold in any kind of wind or wave swell. That being said, on a sandy, mud or weed bottom you can add 6 or 8ft of chain which will help hold the anchor stem down and as it starts to drag it will scoop itself into the bottom and increase its holding power. Putting out more anchor line will also help. The 40 feet of line that come's with this mushroom anchor is only adequate for small light boats under 12-14ft in my opinion. It's a good anchor overall but if your going to use it on a larger boat have the gear to make it work. In my case it's used on a 1000lb 23 footer when I'm fishing as its easy to pull up and reset and doesn't hang up on stumps. ... show more

    • nice small craft anchor

This anchor kit is great for any small craft. The anchor itself has lock closed (for storage) and lock open mechanism so you can be sure it gets a decent grab when deployed. The orange paint is solid and thorough so it will take some heavy wear before the metal beneath is exposed to rust. The black rope floats has dark red striping woven into it which helps visibility some but a brighter color and or reflective strands would me a big improvement. The hollow plastic float on the clip end is more than sufficient for keeping the clip end above water unless the anchor falls below the 40ft length, it's thick enough plastic but a solid float would probably have a longer life since once this is cracked or punctured it will fill with water and sink. The anchor also comes in a nice padded carry bag so there will be lest wear and tear on everything around it while stowed in the boat. ... show more

Obsessed with this and I didn't even realize that they made anchors for SUPs. I am always having to keep my leg piece on when I am wanting to stop on the sand bar so the SUP doesn't float away and this has solved my problem. It is super easy to get the anchor going and to dock. It is attachable via snap clip which I can attach at the front or back of my board (very versatile) and the string is SUPER long so you can have it as close or as far as you would like it to be. The buoy is a great touch as well so you know where the anchor is at and pulling it up is very easy. The storage bag is perfect as well and has a tie at the top so you don't lose any of the contents. I have a fairly big SUP that blows up and this anchor gives me no issue. It is small enough to take with me on trips and doesn't weigh that much to provide me with a heavier vessel.     • Construction help avoid loosing it in the brush or branches

Ever try to fish on a lake when the wind is blowing, even a little? You find your perfect spot only to lose it because you drifted. I selected this anchor to keep my kayak in place while fishing and it works perfectly. I saw some of the other anchors but they looked like the could easily get stuck on branches and other weeds that were buried in the water. When I saw the shape of this one I thought it may be just what I needed. The anchor is 8 lbs and has 40ft of rope for those deep lakes. Some of the other anchors only have 30ft so it is nice having the extra 10 with this one. It keeps you in place, even on a windy day, and is easy to retrieve and place in another location when needed.
