  • An Excellent Guitar
After looking at this and other Blueridge guitars over the past year or so, I finally bought this one when I saw the price drop below 500 (for just a few hours..! I had barely bought it when the price went back up). I had never played a Blueridge, so I was very shy about buying it online, but there are no Blueridge dealers near me where I could try one. I had to rely on reviewers being honest and accurate, and I'd seen and heard an awfully lot of good reports.. When it arrived, I let it sit in the box for 2 days to acclimate from the cold wx before I opened it. It was packed pretty well and sustained no damage in shipping. I removed the wrapping on the strings and shook the 3 silica gel packs out of the body, which was somewhat difficult, and tuned it up. It shipped with the strings quite slack. The neck is thinner than just about any guitar I have played, but it played very nicely. It came with D'Addarios from the factory (probably med/light). The tone is exceptional, which is subjective, but most seem to agree. Very full with good presence in the high-mids.. some very good 'ding', like you might expect if there were medium strings on it. I normally use a Blue Chip TD35 pick and love it, but I've found that my old trusty Fender thins sound much better on this particular guitar. The type of pick you use can make a BIG difference. I play mostly bluegrass, and this guitar is GREAT for that. That hi-mid presence will punch right through if you need it to, and a softer strum gives you a very nice rhythm warmth and fullness. It has surprising volume. I find myself needing to back off sometimes. That's not a bad thing. Better plenty than too little. I also do a little finger picking, and I noticed that the strings are spaced slightly wider at the saddle than typical, which some finger pickers would like. I gave it to one of the best luthiers in this region to look over and tweak out for me. He told me (twice) that it was a very nice guitar, especially for what I paid. He said he couldn't really improve the action significantly from the way it came from the factory. He and I were both pretty stunned. He said the fret wires were a bit tall at about .040 (which affects the way the action feels), and they were just a little bit 'gritty', so he polished them a bit (which helped), adjusted the neck just a little, put on some EJ16's, and Voila! A poor man's Martin! My other main option was a Taylor 110e, which is very nice, but I'm glad I got this BR140. Unlike the Taylor, the BR140 uses all solid tone wood (no plywood), so the sound will mellow with age and will be a better overall investment, especially for what I paid. I'm a happy camper. ... show more

  • My jaw is on the floor!
This guitar sounds as good as my dads martin D-18 for like less than a quarter of the price. I have had this guitar not even 24 hours and it blew me away with playability and sound quality. This will be my new forever guitar.

  • Great guitar at an amazing price!!! Every guitarist should have one
The tone is very well rounded, I can play anywhere on the neck and the guitar will be full.... Very balanced and seems to be aging very well... Love my baby, I haven't been song writing for your about 3 years, now I'm back at it... The beauty of the tone has inspired me to get back on the horse... I got it for almost 600$.. Woulda payed 1500$ if I even had that much at the time, starved for the rest of the pay period and still be happy, hahaha, great guitar. ... show more

  • 10 footer- (looks good from a distance)
Just stop what you’re doing and do not buy this guitar. It look drop dead gorgeous in the photos. You will cry when you receive it. It’s way too light to have any resonance. Sounds like a tin box. You’d think for almost a grand they’d slot the nut instead of throwing a new one with pilot slots on it. The strings were literally sitting ontop of the nut. The strings were old and nasty. I bought it new but there were still dings in it. Should’ve been marked as b stock or mint, definitely not used. Case is nice. Pretty. The neck feels cheap and plasticy. Nut and saddle material are good. Tuners are good. The too was nice looking. The sides and back felt cheap. The guitar needed lots of humidity. I was so excited to receive it and waited around all day for it just to be disappointed. I’ve heard so many great things and thought I’d give it a try. Just don’t do it. The return took 3 weeks to process even though they received it in 3 days. Maybe if this was a 10 year old model set up with 12 gauge Martin strings I would’ve been satisfied… but it’s just not worth it. I would pay 300 at most just to use it as a beater guitar. I am however extremely satisfied with my 99 Martin d-15 that I purchased from reverb as I returned this. That guitar was the best I’ve ever played. Go Martin. You can find a used one for a better price than this. Just don’t do it. ... show more

  • A Martin D18 without the cost.
I purchased this guitar about 3 years ago and I've been pleased with it! It's held up well and the tone as warmed up slightly since new. It's bright without being harsh and when playing bluegrass gives you the punch and tone you want. New it did require strings. It came with a light set and I prefer mediums. I did replace the bridge pins for ebony ones and purchased a hardshell case. The gig bag is well padded and does protect the guitar but I wanted more protection when travelling. The finish has held up well but has normal play wear. I'm careful about buckles so no problem there but there are a few fine scratches on the top and fret wear is minimal. I'm a player not a collector so scratches are just part deal 🤷. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you purchase the BR 140 and I hope this helps someone. ... show more

  • Amazing Purchase!!!
Wow this guitar is absolutely beautiful, the pictures of it on here don't do it justice at all, the finish is top of the line, the headstock inlay is immaculant, and if you think this guitar is just all about the looks then your in for a suprise, its got the sound to boot, one of the best sounding guitars I've ever heard, and i got a 56' gibson, and this blueridge surpasses it by miles. ... show more

  • Do it!!
I own a Gibson J45 and this beats it. I have owned many martin and gibson acoustics, and this guitar is awesome! No whiners! Great warm tone. String action is very low and it very comfortable to play. Incredible sustain. Very well done Saga.
