NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • READ WITH JENNA BOOK CLUB PICK AS FEATURED ON TODAY • Three estranged siblings return to their family home in New York after their beloved sister’s death in this “deeply nuanced and compelling” (Vogue) novel, from the acclaimed author of Cleopatra and Frankenstein. “A beautiful portrait of grief and the world-shaping bond sisters share.”—Real Simple A VOGUE AND HARPER’S BAZAAR BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR The three Blue sisters are exceptional—and exceptionally different. Avery, the eldest and a recovering heroin addict turned strait-laced lawyer, lives with her wife in London; Bonnie, a former boxer, works as a bouncer in Los Angeles following a devastating defeat; and Lucky, the youngest, models in Paris while trying to outrun her hard-partying ways. They also had a fourth sister, Nicky, whose unexpected death left the family reeling. A year later, as they each navigate grief, addiction, and ambition, they find they must return to New York to stop the sale of the apartment they were raised in. But coming home is never as easy as it seems. As the sisters reckon with the disappointments of their childhood and the loss of the only person who held them together, they realize that the greatest secrets they’ve been keeping might not have been from one another but from themselves. Imbued with Coco Mellors’s signature combination of humor and heart, Blue Sisters is a story of what it takes to keep living after loss—and, ultimately, to fall in love with life again. Read more

  • Beautifully devastating
This was a beautifully devastating story of true sisterhood and navigating grief when one does not even know how to process it. This novel touches on so many heavy topics in a way that makes it feel like a light read. I devoured this novel in less than a day. I was up on a work night trying to finish it up and was crying at work reading the conclusion. Brutally honest description of the relationship between sisters and the shared trauma that impacted them differently. I resonated so much with each of the sisters but truly felt stripped bare in my connection with Avery. As an eldest sister I have always felt the implied/assigned role of taking care of my youngest sisters. The burden that could be real or not sometimes cripples us in our life and is a constant push to do more since we never do enough. Each sister's guilt was palpable throughout the story and their yearning to have done differently and changed the outcomes of their sister's ultimate demise. Accepting that they each have their faults and learning to accept them and do better was incredible to read. I was especially glad to see how messy it all got and not everything immediately had a clean end. BUT THE EPILOGUE made the ending so perfect. This has easily joined the top of my ranks for my favorite books. I am excited to constantly visit these characters and their lives. Thank you to Ballantine Books, NetGalley, and Coco Mellors for allowing me the extreme honor of an ARC of this book and allowing me to process it before I was able to buy the book for my own and relive it. ... show more

  • How I wish I had sisters
What a sweet tale, detailing the lives of the three sisters left behind after the fourth dies suddenly. They are very different from each other, so you get the feel of each of them. Three stories in one.

  • It’s ok.
I’m not seeing the hype here. I couldn’t find myself caring about really any of the characters and felt the author spent wayyy too much time describing their surroundings and inconsequential aspects instead of focusing on more important details. Details and explanations that could’ve helped me relate to the characters better. You are made to think their mother is the literal worst but she is not portrayed that way when we finally get to see interaction with her. 3 out of the 4 sisters are/were addicts and none of them recognized this in the other? Too unrealistic for sisters with such a close bond. I do love the focus on the special relationship between sisters and I actually enjoyed the last quarter of the book and the ending. It wrapped up nicely but was overall too chaotic and the storylines too all over the place. Edited to add: I think I maybe am being a little too critical of this book but I feel it’s because I had such big expectations that it just didn’t meet. ... show more

  • great read
It was a book that kept you reading because you needed to know what happened next. Each sister has their own sorry but all working through the same problems that eventually brought them back together!

  • Heavy heavy heavy
Blue Sisters expertly explores the intricacies and complex dynamics of sibling relationships. Avery, Bonnie & Lucky are grieving the loss of their sister Nicky who passed away at the age of 27 due to an overdose. Addiction has deep roots in the Blue family as their father is an alcoholic, Avery a recovering addict and Lucky an addict in denial. The grief eats away at each of the girls in different ways and as they rebuild their relationships with one another through the shared pain, they begin to heal. This story shows some of the darkest parts of addiction, I was scared for Lucky as she spiraled. There were instances where I found Avery to be so cringey, angry and cruel. Bonnie, although struggling, was the light this book needed. She balanced everything out and her individual story was by far my favorite of the girls. I liked it but it was a little too dark and a little too heavy for me. ... show more

  • heartbreaking and honest
i loved every minute of this book. the sisters were all fully rounded and the uncomfortable honesty of the fact that we hurt the ones we love the most.

  • Better than I expected
I ordered this because of the "Jenna" recommendation. I have liked most of the books she puts her name on. When this started out, I figured it was going to be another of those "dysfunctional family" books, and in some ways it is that, but at least the characters are entertaining and interesting, so it reads fairly quickly. The story is told in alternating chapters for each sister. Each one has problems of one kind or another, and while they want to get along with each other, they don't always. However, they seem to have good hearts, and the story ends well, so I am glad I read it. ... show more

  • Favorite book I've read this year!
Definetly would recommend to anyone who likes seeing characters grow, really liked that it was told by each sister. Grew to care about the characters and were all very relatable. Also really happy with how the book was wrapped up, always nervous I won't know how the characters continue but this book had a great conclusion. ... show more
