  • Great Blender Resource
I'm new to blender, and have been bouncing between youtube videos. I found the author's youtube channel, and that lead me to this book. The book does a great job of teaching the tools, and then bringing them together to build complex models.

  • Nice material once I learn blender
First of all, I do this for hobby and been using Lightwave 3d for years, but recent changes made desire to switch to Blender. I also old fashion and like to have books handy. This book will be nice about details I am interested in but I believe I need to learn more about blender first.

  • A terrific guide to modeling in Blender, from beginner to advanced techniques.
The best part of Arijan Belec’s book is the clarity of his writing and figures. Every page is replete with well-annotated figures that take you through the process, and it hits a terrific rhythm of explaining the miniscule details of a multi-step process, but also keeping an eye on the broad strokes of projects. The book focuses on hard surface modeling, and also does a good job touching on when details come out due to modeling details versus materials versus textures. These steps build up quickly, and the finished results for the three major projects all look terrific. If you are new to 3D, or if you’re coming to Blender as a Maya or 3DS Max user, Arijan’s scaffolded approach will get you working effortlessly in Blender very quickly. If you are an experienced Blender user, pick this up for some great tricks to up your skills. ... show more

  • Helpful, But Falls Short for This Beginner
A decent guide overall, but the constant citing of keyboard shortcuts is annoying. EVERY instant of a shortcut should be accompanied by the menu-path equivalent ...not just when a new shortcut is introduced. What if I jump to the middle of the book? Also, as mentioned by Ben F back in January of 2023, page 54 is missing (there are two page 55's). Since Amazon prints-on-demand, there is no reason that the author should not have corrected this serious lapse. I'm here writing this review because I would really like to know what is on page 54. Another gripe is the repetitive fluff at the end and beginning of chapters. Stating and restating what topic will come and what topic has come dilutes the useful content. ...and another thing. Some of the screenshots are illegible, and the coloration is sometimes too faint to discern the highlighted areas. ... show more

  • Very versatile book with a lot of good information
I feel like all the most important parts of Blender have been covered here, at least in the domain of modelling or asset creation. While most of the book is about modelling, there was a lot of information about texturing, rendering and some other topics. Some parts may be a bit tough for complete beginners, but they could definitely still learn a lot. ... show more

  • Incredible resource for both beginner and intermediate 3D Artists
As someone who would consider myself an intermediate level 3D Artist, having some experience with making models for a few games, I was looking for more resources that i can reference in my daily workflow. Following the tutorial for the SCAR in this book thus far, I have been able to produce decently high quality models in a fraction of the time it took me previously. this book is an AMAZING resource, and i would 1000% recommend it to any students. HOWEVER. I have a few small complaints. I will list them from least severe to most severe. (note: i have not finished the entire book yet. this is going on what I have read thus far, approx 100 pages) -For anyone following the tutorial step by step, the link to the SCAR reference is not provided. -some steps in the tutorials are not optimal ways of modeling. -Page 54 is missing from the paperback copy. in it's place is a duplicate of page 55. relatively major detail is lost if you are a beginner following the tutorial. this can be chalked up to a misprint on my copy, but I am unsure. ... show more

  • Blend Your Knowledge
I found out I knew a lot of the stuff required for the book. That's only after one year of using Blender. However, I did pick up on stuff I forgot or ignored when using the application. And I did learn a lot too. I was expecting more on the procedural side of texturing, but it takes inspiration to know what to make and that usually includes arrays, the spin tool, and changing the selected vertices. Very useful if you forget things and you can definitely make more models on your own that look neat using this book. ... show more
