I don’t know how they would work as what they are meant to do, but I used them to hang shelves from my basement beams. I needed a bracket that was shaped exactly like this to connect the beam to the shelving. My basement is unfinished and it’s also my work space, rather than drilling into concrete, I’d prefer to hang stuff from the ceiling. They did feel a little flimsy, but maybe that’s intended for hurricane wind relief, like, the bracket twists before the wood will break? 😬 idk that almost made sense in my head. I ordered this set of hurricane ties/brackets because I'm reinforcing and upgrading the roof on my chicken coop, which is a bit of a cob job (I'm not a carpenter). The brackets are just as described, and I was able to reinforce areas that really needed help. However, I was surprised to discover that the holes in the brackets are really very small, so you can't use a screw any larger than a size 7 (usually I use a size 10 for outdoor woodworking projects). It is critically important to understand that these brackets come in two different shapes: right and left. If you order each shape, you can support a single piece of wood from both sides. However, for such uses, I would suggest ordering rafter ties (shown in my photo) as a bracket that supports both sides of a 2x4 cross-brace instead of using these. These hurricane ties are good for supporting offset intersections between pieces of wood that are joined at right angles, as shown. ... show more

I live in an area with a half year hurricane season. I put up a 12x12 gazebo and have tried to harden it. I put strong anchors to hold the corner posts to the concrete slab and wanted these ties to hold the roof to the posts. These ties are not as thick as I would like, but you get so many that using them should provide great protection. In an actual hurricane, the roof panels may blow off, but I am fairly confident the rest of the gazebo will remain. They are fairly easy to install with a drill and decent screws. ... show more

I'm rebuilding my patio and ordered these ties to meet code for securing the roof trusses. They appear to be very well made and a strong solution for tying the trusses to the walls. The design is pretty much standard, so they fit just as expected and are easy to install. The length is perfect for my use. Most ties are 'naked' or galvanized, so the black color really makes these stand out and will probably help protect them against any corrosion over the many years of use.
